It's not the biggest racing surface in NASCAR, but it's big enough to fit that regulation MLB playing surface, evidently.
Construction of a field for the one-off game between the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves August 2, probably wasn't too big of a deal.
It does look cool, though, and MLB has started to show video and images of the field the Reds and Braves will play on.
According to Mike Wilson of the Knoxville News-Sentinel, nearly 20,000 tons of gravel was used to build the field at the iconic race track.
From Wilson's June 24 story:
"The process included using 17,500 tons of gravel to level and create the field. It will require 340 tons of clay, which is expected to arrive soon. A synthetic turf playing surface that matches what is used at Rogers Centre, the Toronto Blue Jays' ballpark, will be installed. Additional lighting will be installed on the roof of the facility."
Thing is, MLB is pretty good at making regulation fields where they didn't previously exist. For instance, they even built one in Europe, at the London Stadium during years when MLB stages its London Series.
London Stadium was the centerpiece venue for the 2012 London Olympics and is now home to the English Premier League's West Ham United.

Former SAG-AFTRA executive director David White is interim executive director of the NFLPA
Former SAG-AFTRA executive director David White was elected interim executive director of the NFL Players Association on Sunday night. White replaces Lloyd Howell, who stepped down last month amid a series of revelations that created a distraction for the players' union. 'We have full faith in David to take the union forward and operate in the best interests of our membership,' NFLPA President Jalen Reeves-Maybin said in a statement. The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the conversations were private, said the Board conducted interviews with each candidate over the last two weeks and the process was player-led and voted on by the Board. 'I am grateful to the NFLPA's player leadership for entrusting me with the privilege and responsibility to guide their union as interim executive director,' White said. 'It's a duty I do not take lightly, and I'm committed to re-establishing trust and ensuring the union is serving its members best. I look forward to working with the entire NFLPA team to protect players' health and safety, secure their financial well-being, and further strengthen their voice to shape their futures.' Reeves-Maybin said a thorough search process for a permanent executive director will start soon. 'This process will continue to be player led, as the strength of our union has and will always lie with our membership,' Reeves-Maybin said. White, a veteran labor executive, has guided some of the most prominent entertainment and financial organizations in the world. NFLPA hires David White as interim executive director, replacing Lloyd Howell
The NFL Players Association has a new leader. The NFLPA on Sunday night announced the hiring of David White to take over as the interim executive director in a move that was necessitated by the stunning resignation of Lloyd Howell Jr. on July 17. The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that JC Tretter, the union's chief strategy officer, and Don Davis, the chief player officer, emerged as the lead candidates following Howell's departure. Tretter later resigned from his position. NFLPA CONTROVERSY EXPLAINED: What to know about grievances, Lloyd Howell, next steps One union official, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation, said that a voting player representative from all 32 teams participated in the Board vote. The person also said that on the final short list of candidates, there were multiple internal candidates and multiple external ones. The Board conducted interviews with each candidate over the last two weeks, and the process was player-led and voted on by the Board. The person also said that ultimately, the Board voted on their elected candidate this evening. NFLPA leadership initially expressed their support for Howell, but the fallout from the "Pablo Torre Finds Out" podcast's release of a 61-page arbitration report proved to be too much. The report revealed the NFLPA agreed to keep the arbitration decision from earlier this year about potential collusion by the league confidential – despite evidence that "commissioner Roger Goodell and former general counsel Jeff Pash instructed teams at the March 2022 league meeting to limit guaranteed money in players' contracts." Howell was later found to be a paid, part-time consultant for the private-equity firm The Carlyle Group since March 2023, as reported by ESPN. It highlighted a potential conflict of interest as the group was given approval by the NFL to seek a minority ownership stake in a team. More revelations regarding Howell's conduct have come to light following his resignation. On July 18, ESPN reported that Howell submitted expense reports charging the union for two visits to strip clubs. The former leader's controversial tenure was short-lived and came to an end just over two years following his hiring on June 28, 2023. Now White will be tasked with cleaning up the mess that was left behind in addition to restoring trust between the union and its membership. Pakistan wins 3rd T20 by 13 runs to clinch a 2-1 series victory over West Indies
LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) — Saim Ayub posted a half-century in a 138-run opening stand with Sahibzada Farhan and then took a key wicket as Pakitsan beat West Indies by 13 runs Sunday to clinch the Twenty20 cricket series 2-1. Pakistan posted 189-4 and then bowled tightly enough to restrict West Indies to 176-6. Pakistan's opening partnership ended when Farhan was out for 74 runs in the 17th over, his 53-ball innings finishing when he hit a low full-toss from Shamar Joseph (1-57) directly to Shai Hope at long-off. Ayub continued until the last ball of the penultimate over of Pakistan's innings, when he hit a full ball from Jason Holder (1-34) to Sherfane Rutherford in the covers and was out for 66 from 49 deliveries. West Indies raced to 33-0 after two overs in reply, taking 16 off the first over from Hasan Ali and 17 in the second from Mohammad Nawaz. Haris Rauf slowed the run-rate in the third over, which only went for five runs, and then snared the first West Indies wicket when he had Jewel Andrew (24 from 15 deliveries) caught by Hasan Ali in the fifth over with the total at 44. Alick Athanaze scored 60 from 40 deliveries, sharing further partnerships of 30 with Hope (7) and 36 with Rutherford until he mis-timed a fuller, faster delivery from Ayub and was caught at short thirdman. At that point, West Indies slipped to 110-3 in the 13th over. Rutherford kept West Indies in the contest with 51 from 35 balls but his dismissal in the last over ended any chance of a comeback win. The series was tied 1-1 going into the decider after Jason Holder took four wickets and then smashed a boundary off the final ball of the second game to lift West Indies to a thrilling two-wicket victory on Saturday. It was the first T20 victory for West Indies in seven matches, a span that included a heavy 5-0 series defeat to Australia, on top of a test series sweep last month.
