Pierre Novellie: the 10 funniest things I have ever seen (on the internet)
One of the toughest things about being a comedian or comedy writer these days is just how much amazing stuff exists out there in the wild. Feral jokes roaming the jungle of the internet, free to view, shared everywhere, completely uncredited, disappearing as quickly as they appeared. So many of my choices were deleted when I returned to the jungle clearing where I first spotted them. The loss of the baffling German voiceover actor used for the outdoor-lights-bundle product video embedded in an Amazon page is a particularly galling one. Was it a dream?
The internet has proven that everyone can be the funniest person on Earth once in their lives and comedians and comedy writers are often less funny but more consistent. Here is a mixture of both types.
Brian 'Limmy' Limond is one of the best British comedy writers and performers of the century and he's never got the exposure he deserves, I think because English television executives didn't think anyone would understand Scottish accents. His sketches are incredible but these days he Twitch streams and occasionally improvises mad stories from suggestions or simply off the top of his head in the middle of a game. This one is a favourite for my friends and I. Whenever a celebrity or politician gets in more trouble after apologising than before, we remember: don't back doon, double doon.

I have no real understanding of why Kim Cattrall is doing this or who with and I do not wish to know. I was so dumbstruck by it when first seeing it I had to let it loop several times before the enormous reserve of laughter it created could be released from my chest. For weeks, I would make my girlfriend jump by suddenly saying 'saba sooRAY!' to myself, unprompted.

These two geniuses are producing some of the best sketches I've ever seen. The Gordon Ramsay one, the Home Alone one, too many gems to name. To introduce you to their work I think it's best if I show you one of their big hitters, a sketch about forgetting your headphones. Their work straddles the mundane and the obscene and surreal in a way that I think is generally done best by northern English comedians (for example Vic and Bob, the League of Gentlemen), and their mixture of fully committing to characters and undermining their own premises makes me honk.
One of the stupidest jokes ever and it made me cry with laughter for two days. A work of art. Trying to explain why this is incredibly funny is like trying to explain picnics: the more you say, the stupider it all sounds.

When an impression is good, it is funny; when an impression is really good, it is also horrible. From the mixture of regional accents carefully matched to each other, to the upstairs-downstairs class system faux bonhomie, this has everything that makes so much British theatre (and indeed cinema) utterly intolerable outside of a drunken Christmastime viewing. The Monty Python aspect to the voices is both excessively silly and chillingly real.
The comedian Alex Kealy and I lived together one Edinburgh fringe. We had both seen this video a long time before but all it took was merely for him to ask if I had seen it and we were both crying-laughing again. He didn't even finish the question due to laughter and he didn't need to, all I needed to hear was 'Have you seen the Egyptian priest?' and I was gone. Dead.

There are a lot of videos where people have removed backing tracks or laugh tracks. Friends without a laugh track is a nasty, baffling Godot-style play. Star Wars without the soaring music is awkward and creepy. This one stuck with me because it builds perfectly. Every new thing about Elvis having no back-up music is funnier than the previous thing until the final hilarious crescendo. It is also a perfect impression of the awful half-singing people do quietly while they are in public.

Another perfect sketch! One of the few truly original takes along the lines of 'imagine superheroes but real'. The downplayed but still gobsmacked reactions are perfect , as well as the cheesy, wholesome offscreen voice of Spider-Man himself. Great sketches are often great observational comedy played out, and this is no exception.
Most of this is not available for free, but it's such a comedy ray of sunshine that beams straight into the core of your brain, I can't not recommend it. The Americans will always do two things better than the rest of the world: improv and game shows. Sam Reich embodies both, and hosts the show with a genial mischief that makes you want to have him host or narrate everything you do in life from now on. I also got the chance to meet him at the Edinburgh Fringe and he was so shocked I knew who he was he must also be a good person.
People in films are always telling each other that they look like shit, and it's just shrugged off. I would be jarringly upset for days
Johnny White Really-Really is the comedy act I have most recommended in my life. I recommend him to the point that I imagine he finds unsettling by now, having long since ceased to be flattered. His tweets make me laugh a lot but I think you need to listen to the specials of the man to understand the tweets. Most of them are available for streaming and some on Bandcamp. In one show he asks, apropos of nothing, 'have you ever accidentally stroked your dad's hand while you're both stroking the same dog?' I would also add that he is one of the only comedians whose shows work just as well as prose as they do onstage. There is no one doing it like him – his specials don't even have audiences so you don't get prompted to laugh by rhythm and mob psychology. You have to actually listen.

He told viewers: "I'm at the end of my cancer journey. There is no treatment I can have anymore." During Friday (June 6th) night's episode of James Whale Unleashed, the two presenters spoke to a guest who had been through cancer with her late husband. James told her: "Until very recently, everything was quite normal for me, everything was fine, and then you do get to a stage like I am now, with things get to be very very difficult." He then added: "To anybody else who is in the final stages of cancer, you have my sympathy. I know exactly what you're going through, I do know, I look basically okay, I get told you look alright and I look okay, it's all make-up." James' comments were shared on X, formerly Twitter, where the star was inundated with support. One user penned: "My heart goes out to you Mr Whale. You are a fighter." A second person gushed: "I'm also stage 4 kidney cancer but you are a real inspiration. I seriously can't believe how much better you look compared to 2 weeks ago!" While another user wrote: "You're amazing James! Keep showing the C who's boss!" In May, James chose to spend his 74th birthday in the company of his friends and family. Lizzie Cundy, a contributor on his TALK show, shared a heartfelt tribute to Instagram from the intimate gathering. She wrote: 'Laughter is the best medicine … Birthday celebrations for my dear friend @jameswhaleradio with @lamontbrownnadine @charliem_obe @simonwi @whodathoughtit .. Happy birthday dearest James, we all love you so much.' The post featured beaming smiles, with James surrounded by his wife Nadine Lamont-Brown, 59, TV producer Simon Withington, 48, and Pimlico Plumbers founder Charlie Mullins, 72. Posing for a photo at boutique Kent hotel, Who'd A Thought It, James wore aviator sunglasses and a white shirt for his big day. Trump crushes 'peace talk' hopes with Musk as he insists Elon has 'lost his mind' and 'vows to get rid of his Tesla' Lizzie also shared some playful snaps from the hotel's grounds, posing with a saxophone alongside Charlie. James appeared in high spirits in a video posted by Lizzie too. He cheekily asked her: 'Who are you? Lizzie, I didn't recognise you with so many clothes on.' Speaking candidly on camera, James said: 'I'm feeling okay. As people know, I'm not about to die - well, you never know, do you? "I've had all my treatment. I don't want anybody feeling sorry for me, I'm just giving you the lowdown. "I think if I make it to Christmas, I'll be exceptionally lucky. "Sometimes I think it might be easier to just have a heart attack and go.' As his wife joined him, Lizzie added: 'People think of James as Mr Nasty, but he's a little pussycat underneath.' Nadine agreed: 'No one's ever been nicer to me than James.' James also revealed his long-running programme could be coming to an end within weeks, as he reaches the final stage of his battle. 6 Lizzie Cundy made sure James enjoyed his 74th birthday Credit: Instagram/@jameswhaleradio

POLL: What do you think to Prince Harry's strange plan for his kids?
Prince Harry and Meghan may have stepped back from royal life - but they're not shutting the palace gates for their kids just yet. The couple reportedly want Archie and Lilibet to keep their titles, sparking debate over whether it's about choice … or mixed messages. Despite Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping away from their royal duties and all the palace drama a while ago, it seems they're keeping the door open for their kids to walk a different path. They reportedly want Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet to hang onto their royal titles - just in case they decide they do want to be working royals one day. Apparently, Harry and Meghan see it as giving their kids the option when they're older. But here's where it gets a bit sticky, as the 'plan' comes after the source claimed the Sussexes feared passports for their children were being held up due to the use of their royal titles. It has all raised a few eyebrows., with former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond asking why the Sussexes are holding so tightly to the titles when they've been so outspoken about wanting out of the royal system in the first place. So, what do you think? Is Harry being thoughtful about giving his kids future choices — or is it a bit contradictory after everything he and Meghan have said about the monarchy? What do you think to Harry's plan? Take our poll below. If you can't see it, click here Jennie Bond told the Mirror: "I really don't understand why, having extricated themselves from a life they did not enjoy and in which Harry has publicly spoken of 'feeling trapped', they want to give their children the option of re-joining. It makes no sense. "Who knows what's going to happen in the future? But it's very hard to see how two children who are clearly now more American than British would want to change their whole way of life and become working members of the royal family." Archie and Lilibet got prince and princess titles when their grandfather King Charles became monarch in 2022. The first time their titles were formally announced was after Lilibet's christening in March 2023. Due to the reported hold-up in their British passports, it is said that Harry started to explore the possibility of changing his family surname to Spencer in a nod to his late mother, Princess Diana. And Jennie added: "I think Harry has always been more Spencer than Windsor, so if he was ever going to change his name, it would be to Spencer. "But this would be a final nail in the coffin of his relationship with his father and his brother. It would amount to a public declaration that he no longer saw himself as part of the royal family." There has been continued controversy over the Sussexes' HRH titles since the pair quit their royal roles five years ago. As part of their Megxit negotiations with the Palace, Meghan and the Duke of Sussex agreed to stop using 'Her Royal Highness' and 'His Royal Highness' at the end of March 2020. They still retain the styles, with Harry having had his since birth, but they are essentially held in abeyance. However, earlier this year, it emerged Meghan had used her HRH style on a gift basket sent to make-up entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima last year, with a monogrammed card reading: 'With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex'. Kern Lima showed an image of the present in footage of her podcast interview with Meghan. It contained a jar of Meghan's jam which she has started selling as part of her As Ever lifestyle business brand. A source described the basket as a 'personal gift'. The duchess's representatives denied that the couple used them, but a source later said that the Sussexes did not use HRH publicly but retained the style, and did not use it for commercial purposes.
