Kishan Reddy attends 2nd North-East Mining Ministers' conclave, highlights boost in infrastructure
Speaking to mediapersons at the event, the Union Minister said, 'The Mining and Coal Ministry is organising the 2nd North-East Mining Ministers' Conclave. We want to encourage the northeastern states in the mining sector.'
Reddy also emphasised the significance of the eight northeastern states, often referred to as the Ashtalakshmi states, in India's growth narrative. He said, 'Under the leadership of PM Modi, we want to strengthen the Ashtalakshmi states further.'
Highlighting the progress made in the region over the past decade, the minister noted that the northeast has witnessed a big boost in infrastructure in the last 11 years. He added, 'The PM himself has visited the northeast more than 60 times in these past years.'
Reddy also praised the Assam government for taking strong steps against illegal mining. 'Assam govt has stopped illegal mining in the state,' he said.
The Ministry of Mines, in collaboration with the Ministry of Coal and the Government of Assam, organised the 2nd North East Geology and Mining Ministers' Conclave on June 27-28 in Guwahati.
The conclave, being held under the Government of India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat,' will witness participation from all eight North Eastern states.
The Chief Minister of Assam graced the occasion as Chief Guest, alongside Mining and Geology Ministers from across the region.
The event aimed to promote sustainable and scientific mining, improve the ease of doing business in the resource sector, and strengthen centre-state coordination for balanced regional development.
Building on the success of the first conclave held in Nagaland, this year's edition will feature a series of impactful sessions and releases.
The Geological Survey of India (GSI), under the Ministry of Mines, also presents the latest findings on mineral exploration and unveils key publications dedicated to the region's geology and resource profile.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between central agencies and state governments to accelerate mineral exploration.
The conclave will also feature NLC India Ltd.'s ambitious plans to set up 1,000 MW of solar power capacity in Assam, contributing to the national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy by 2030.
The two-day conclave signifies a strong convergence of efforts between the Ministry of Mines and the Ministry of Coal, aligning energy security with regional development and environmental sustainability. The event is expected to serve as a catalyst for future investments, innovation, and inclusive growth in the North Eastern Region. (ANI)

(ANI Photo) Kolkata: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday announced a rehabilitation scheme for migrant labourers who were allegedly harassed and tortured in BJP-ruled at the state secretariat Nabanna, she said: 'We have formulated a new rehabilitation plan for migrant workers called 'Sramashree'. Through 'Sramasree', migrant labourers, who have enrolled in the portal, would be provided financial aid of Rs 5,000 for 12 months or till the time they get fresh employment in Bengal. The cabinet has given approval for the scheme to help in the rehabilitation of the migrant workers willing to return,' she said.'This new plan is focused on helping migrant workers return and become economically reliant. Those who return will be provided Rs 5,000 along with one-time travel aid. Until new work can be arranged for them, an aid of Rs 5,000 per month will be given. The Labour Department will be the nodal department for this,' she said. 'During Covid, we had supported the migrant labourers through various schemes.''Migrant workers from Bengal, who are working outside and those who are enrolled in the migrant workers portal (Karmasathi), will get the aid,' she said. Those who are returning can get in touch with the Migrant Workers Welfare Board or through 'Karmasathi', she said.'In addition to financial aid, migrant workers will get 'Khadya Sathi' cards. The administration has been instructed to provide this and the chief secretary will monitor the process. 'Swasthya Sathi' cards will also be provided. If they do not have a house, a community kitchen centre will be set up. Arrangements will be made for their children to enrol in local government schools to ensure their education continues without interruption. The migrant workers will also be enrolled in other schemes of the state government as well,' Banerjee said. 'The primary aim of this initiative is to bring back our migrant workers and help them get a livelihood and make them financially independent. We have 'Utkarsha Bangla' scheme too, where we give skilled training. Those who return will be assessed to identify the skills they possess, and training will be given wherever required,' Banerjee claimed that around 22 lakh migrant labourers and their families have been working outside Bengal. 'In states with double-engine governments, there is attack on Bengali speaking people,' she said.'These workers, if they return, will be provided work under the Karmashree scheme and given job-cards. We have given work to 78 lakh job-card holders under this scheme and over 91 crore man-days have been created. The state has spent Rs 19,000 crore for this scheme,' Banerjee stated.

"I'm In Space, You Can't Reach Me": Minister Jokes As Opposition Interrupts Speech
New Delhi: Lok Sabha held a special discussion on India's first astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and the critical role of the country's space programme in achieving the vision of "Viksit Bharat (Developed India)" by 2047. The discussion was initiated by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh, who also oversees the Space Department. His remarks, however, were repeatedly interrupted by Opposition members, who raised slogans and displayed placards on the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. In a lighter vein, Dr Singh responded to the protests with a quip: " Main iss samay Antriksh mein khada hoon, aap mujh tak nahin pahunch sakte" (I am right now standing in Space, you can't reach me). His remark came as Opposition MPs tried to block his view on the House television screen by raising their banners higher. But missed the target as he had strategically shifted to a back bench seat at a higher elevation before beginning his speech. Appealing to the Opposition to rise above partisan differences, Dr Singh said: "Though you are too angry to participate in the discussion initiated by me, I still bow my head and plead... even if you are angry with the government, come forward and participate in this important discussion on space so the message going out to the nation is correct." Quoting poet Ahmed Faraz, he recited: " Kis kis ko sunaye ge judai ka sabab hum, Tu mujhse khafa hai to zamane ke liye aa." He then paraphrased it for the House: " Kis kis ko sunaye ge iss shor-o-gul ka sabab hum; Tu mujhse khafa hai to Subhanshu ke liye aa." Despite the interruptions, the minister underlined that India's space programme has become a vital pillar in the journey towards self-reliance and national development, with milestones like Chandrayaan-3 and the astronaut mission reinforcing the country's position as a global space power.

EU leaders start arriving at White House for Ukraine meeting
