Where did the Eagles land in a PFF ranking of all 32 running back groups?
Eagles land at No. 4 in a PFF ranking of all 32 running back groups
So, how good is the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line? They're led by Jeff Stoutland, perhaps the best position coach in the game. Lately, any tailback behind them is assured of a Pro Bowl season.
Miles Sanders made the NFL's all-star team in 2022. Philadelphia let him walk during the following offseason and didn't think twice about it. D'Andre Swift replaced him... another Pro Bowler...
A tad over a year ago, Philadelphia did what most never thought was possible. They paid a running back a lot of money. There isn't anyone in the Delaware Valley who doesn't know how that turned out.
For years, people asked a question. What might happen if the Eagles put an elite running back behind that offensive line? We have been answered. What happens is the best rushing season in franchise history.
Pro Football Focus names the Eagles' RB unit among the top four in the NFL
As good as Saquon Barkley has been for the Eagles, some pundits, while tossing around ideas about strategy, have suggested that maybe Philadelphia ought to hand him the ball less often. It sounds strange to say, doesn't it? The goal is to win. Saquon poses a threat to go the distance every time he touches the football. How do you give that guy fewer opportunities to do so?
The answer is simple... After a heavy workload during the 2024-25 campaign, there's a fear that he may have taken too much punishment, so theories have shifted.
There's a desire for a more balanced attack from the Eagles this time around. Less physical strain on Saquon means he is hopefully fresher and better rested for another postseason run.
They have plenty of weapons for the passing game, and this next nugget might be the best news they receive all summer.
Pro Football Focus recently ranked every NFL team's running back room.
"Saquon Barkley's incredible 2024 season alone earns Philadelphia a high mark on this list. Postseason included, Barkley rushed for more than 2,500 yards last season while forcing 83 missed tackles and generating an astonishing 55 explosive runs."
Those were the words of Dalton Wasserman. He's this story's author. He also sees value in A.J. Dillon and Will Shipley.
"AJ Dillon and Will Shipley will be Barkley's backups in 2025. Dillon missed all of last season due to a neck injury but earned a solid 76.1 PFF rushing grade in 2023. Shipley tallied just 34 carries during his rookie campaign but could be the team's primary kick returner this season."
This isn't rocket science. Rushing for 2,000 yards takes a lot out of the guy who does so, which is why we haven't seen any of the eight guys who have done it previously repeat the feat during the following season.
The Eagles are going to score a lot of points, but less Saquon and more of a committee approach could unlock something dangerous. Will Shipley and A.J. Dillon are potentially two more secret weapons for the Eagles' offense

Josh Jacobs Named to NFL's ‘Bad Luck' List Due to Team Penalties
Josh Jacobs Named to NFL's 'Bad Luck' List Due to Team Penalties originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Green Bay Packers saw great things with Josh Jacobs in just one season and are hoping for more in the upcoming campaign. Advertisement Jacobs became an integral part of the team's offense, playing all 17 games and helping Green Bay reach the postseason. The former Las Vegas Raiders back tallied an impressive 1,329 rushing yards on 301 attempts, achieving the second-best yards total in his career. He also scored 15 rushing touchdowns, the most he's ever had in six seasons, showing he is a valuable component on the field for quarterback Jordan Love to hand off to or throw to. Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (8).Eric Hartline-Imagn Images However, he could have had even better stats last season if his team hadn't cost him so much during games. An NFL report arrived on Friday the 13th, which some believe is an unlucky day on the calendar. Based on the NFL's data, Jacobs led the league in a "bad luck" stat last season. Advertisement The star running back had the most rushing yards negated by penalties, 94, although that isn't necessarily Jacobs' fault, as Packers teammates were also responsible. He also had three touchdowns taken away due to penalties, tied for the most in the NFL. It's also worth noting that Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Johnson was right behind Jacobs with 87 rushing yards negated by penalties. Despite the unfortunate stat hindrance, Jacobs still had a healthy and significant season in his Packers debut, finishing fifth amongst running backs for total rushing yards last season. Let's not forget, he also caught 36 passes for 342 receiving yards and a touchdown. His skills after a catch were on full display in a highlight against the Dolphins on Sunday Night Football. The good news is there's a new season ahead, with the Packers ready to push beyond than the Wild Card Playoffs. Advertisement In his seventh NFL season, a talented and powerful back like Jacobs could perform better than he did in 2024. However, his teammates should really cut down on those penalties to help him progress in Green Bay. Draft These Kickers In 2025 Fantasy Football
HOUSTON, TEXAS - OCTOBER 06: Ka'imi Fairbairn #15 of the Houston Texans celebrates with teammates ... More after kicking the game-winning field goal to beat the Buffalo Bills 23-20 at NRG Stadium on October 06, 2024 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by) Getty Images After breaking down the top three defenses to draft in 2025 fantasy football last week, it's only right to do the same for the kickers. Since we don't have any official ADP for these kickers yet, we'll be breaking down which kickers you should target in 2025. The idea of projecting these kickers for 2025 fantasy points is simple. We'll be looking at what these kickers did in 2024, then looking to see which of these offenses is going to improve next year. Better offenses have more red zone opportunities, giving kickers more extra points or field goal chances. Let's just make something clear. Brandon Aubrey should easily be the number one kicker taken in 2025. If your league mates forgot about Aubrey, he had the most fantasy points per game for a kicker with 11.3. Keep in mind that Aubrey did this with a Dallas Cowboys offense that suffered without Dak Prescott. Not only is Prescott going to be back in 2025, but the Cowboys added George Pickens. There's no reason why Aubrey can't be the top kicker next year, with his situation only getting better. If Aubrey is on the board when you're going to take a kicker, draft him. Ka'imi Fairbairn has a chance to finish even better than 4th in PPG next season for a kicker. Last year, Fairbairn had 10.1 PPG even with a struggling Houston Texans offense. Former 2nd overall pick C. J. Stroud had a sophomore slump, throwing three fewer touchdowns and having seven more interceptions than his rookie year. Stroud is a talented player, and you should expect him to turn things around for the Texans. Especially when you take into account what the Texans did in the NFL Draft. While the team lost Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell is likely going to be out for the 2025 season, they made some big moves at wide receiver. First, the team added Jayden Higgins with the 34th overall pick (2nd round) in the draft. Expect him to be a big contributor right away. On top of that, the Texans selected Jaylin Noel with the 79th overall pick (3rd round). With Stroud having Higgins and Noel to pair with Nico Collins, this offense should benefit Fairbairn in a big way next season. INGLEWOOD, CALIFORNIA - DECEMBER 15: Place kicker Chase McLaughlin #4 of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ... More kicks a field goal during an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Chargers, at SoFi Stadium on December 15, 2024 in Inglewood, California. (Photo by) Getty Images 3. Chase McLaughlin (TB) Last season, Chase McLaughlin was the 6th kicker in PPG at 9.6, but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense looked great. With McLaughlin, there are a few reasons why he should finish even better than this in 2025. For one, Baker Mayfield is great, but he just had a career-high year in passing touchdowns with 41. If that comes down just a little bit, that will result in more field goal chances for McLaughlin. On top of that, the Buccaneers will be getting a healthy Chris Godwin and Mike Evans for the 2025 season. If that wasn't enough, the Buccaneers also drafted Emeka Egbuka with the 19th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Between some touchdown regression from Mayfield and the addition of Evans, McLaughlin could be in for a massive leap in 2025 fantasy football.
