Fadhlina fires back at Rafizi, defends work as minister
SELAYANG : Education minister Fadhlina Sidek has hit back at her PKR colleague Rafizi Ramli, who had criticised her ministry for apparently failing to come up with any 'major policy framework' since the government's formation.
Fadhlina said every major policy and reform planned for the education ministry had been thoroughly discussed at Cabinet meetings, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
'We have already tabled the major policy matters, including reforms we want to carry out.
'So there's no such thing as us not doing anything, because everything has already been discussed at the Cabinet meetings,' the Wanita PKR chief told reporters after an event here.
Rafizi was part of the Cabinet until June 17.
On Friday, Rafizi parried criticism over his resignation as economy minister, saying his critics should train their guns on the education ministry instead for not introducing any major policy framework after two-and-a-half years.
The former PKR deputy president argued that he had completed most of his key initiatives during his tenure, including the 13th Malaysia Plan, energy transition, labour market reforms, progressive wage policy, fiscal reforms, targeted subsidies and digital government initiatives.
Fadhlina had defended her post as Wanita PKR chief in the party's elections last month, defeating Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail, who was aligned with Rafizi.
Rafizi meanwhile lost the PKR deputy presidency to Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Anwar, Hun Manet discuss latest Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire developments
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today held a discussion with his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet, on the latest developments concerning the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. In a statement via Facebook today, Anwar said the discussion held over the phone also touched on the role of Malaysia-led Interim Observer Team (IOT) which has been closely monitoring the border areas of both neighbouring countries. "We also discuss further on measures that could be taken to enhance the effectiveness of its operations," the statement read. It was previously reported that, Armed Forces Chief Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar said the IOT plays a key role in investigating the transparency of the ceasefire along the Thailand-Cambodia border. He also said the team has received reports from both countries of several ceasefire violations and that it will investigate the reports. Last month, Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire amid the ongoing border conflict, withAnwar serving as host and Asean Chair.

KUALA LUMPUR: The latest developments concerning the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand were discussed between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his Cambodian and Thai counterparts in two separate discussions on Tuesday (Aug 19). In a Facebook post, Anwar said the telephone discussion with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet touched on the Interim Observer Team (IOT), which has been closely monitoring the border areas of the two neighbouring countries. "We discussed further steps that could be taken to enhance the effectiveness of the IOT's monitoring operations,' he said. In a separate Facebook post, Anwar said he also held a telephone discussion on the same matter with Thailand's Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. "We emphasised and paid attention to the efforts of the IOT team, which continues to closely monitor the situation at the border, while also looking into several other initiatives that could be undertaken to strengthen the monitoring operations of the ceasefire. "In addition, both of us touched on the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, which will convene next month,' the Prime Minister said. Defence Forces Chief Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar previously said that the Malaysia-led IOT plays a crucial role in investigating the transparency of the ceasefire at the Thailand-Cambodia border. Mohd Nizam said the team would subsequently report its findings to both countries. On July 28, Cambodia and Thailand reached an agreement to implement an unconditional ceasefire following a special meeting in Putrajaya hosted by Anwar. Bersatu's Hilman Idham to face charge over video remarks on political arrests
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief Muhammad Hilman Idham is set to face prosecution tomorrow over remarks made at a protest last month. According to the Royal Malaysia Police's Classified Crimes Unit, the Gombak Setia assemblyman will be charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for making statements deemed likely to cause public alarm. The charge is believed to be over a video of him speaking at a July 29 protest here, in which he allegedly claimed the arrest of some Bersatu members was politically motivated. The offence is punishable by up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction. Bersatu responded to the news by condemning the plan to prosecute Hilman and alleging it to be political intimidation.
