First cable-stayed bridge to be built near Ramkund on Godavari in Nashik
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will construct a 'cable-stayed' bridge near Ramkund on Godavari river in Nashik city to facilitate the movement of devotees during the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela. This will be the first bridge of its kind in Nashik, intended for pedestrian use only. A cable-stayed bridge is a type of structure where the deck is supported by cables directly connected to one or more towers. Confirming the development, NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri told TOI, "We have already started preparing the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed cable-stayed bridge near Ramkund. Its cost will be known only after the DPR is complete." The Kumbh Mela Authority has allocated Rs 60 crore to the civic administration for the construction of new bridges on Godavari river in the first phase. More funds are expected to be allocated for the construction of new bridges in the second phase. NMC has already initiated the tender process for the construction of five new bridges, along with the strengthening and widening of the existing Gadge Maharaj bridge and the construction of the down ramp, at Rs 135 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find out: this is how you clean your yoga mat! Another new bridge is to be constructed near Tapovan STP on Godavari river," an official said. The proposed cable-stayed bridge will be in addition to these five new bridges, which aim to alleviate traffic congestion on both sides of the riverbanks during the religious gathering. NMC has set a deadline of March 2027 to complete the construction of the new bridges on Godavari river and its tributaries. The flag hoisting for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela will be held in Oct 2026. Major three Amrit Snans (holy baths) will take place between Aug and Sept 2027. Soon, single-window system for nod to Ramlila programmes
New Delhi: Delhi govt has decided to set up a single-window system at the district level to handle all permissions and no-objection certificates required for holding Ramlila performances across the city. It has also decided to constitute a special committee to resolve any issue regarding the organisation of the events and ensure that the committees do not face any problem in seeking approvals. The decisions were made at a special meeting held at Raj Niwas under the chairmanship of lieutenant governor Vinay Kumar Saxena. Chief minister Rekha Gupta, office bearers of Delhi Ramlila Federation and senior officials from relevant departments also attended the meeting. Gupta said the single-window system will function under the direct supervision of the office of the respective district magistrate. The committees will be able to seek necessary approvals from the land-owning agency where the event is organised, as well as from the police and fire departments, without running between various departments. The special committee will comprise a deputy director-level officer from Delhi Development Authority, which rents out the land for such events, and two representatives of Delhi Ramlila Federation to promptly resolve disputes related to rides, food stalls and other operational matters. "The chief minister stated that organisers earlier used to face delays in securing land and challenges in obtaining permissions from departments such as DDA and the horticulture wing of Municipal Corporation of Delhi. She assured that the new system would remove such bottlenecks," said an official. Responding to requests from organisers, CM also agreed to deploy an ambulance at each Ramlila venue. Gupta said the tradition of Ramlila in the city was centuries-old and continues to attract immense public participation. While the event, to be staged from Sept 22 to Oct 2 this year, is hosted at over 600 locations in Delhi, more than 100 of them are organised on a grand scale. "The move will not only preserve our traditions but also promote social unity," CM said, adding that the govt remained committed to supporting and facilitating these vibrant cultural events. CU first in state to allow dual degree courses
Kozhikode: Calicut University (CU) became the first university in Kerala to allow students to pursue two degree (UG/PG) programmes at the same time. The academic council approved the decision on Wednesday and formed a six-member committee to suggest how to implement the move. The committee includes Rasheed Ahmed as academic convener, along with PP Pradyumnan, K Pradeep Kumar, P Sushanth, T Muhammed Saleem and Sabu T Thomas. The decision follows a UGC notification on June 5, 2025, which allows students to pursue two academic programmes simultaneously. Under UGC guidelines, students can take up two full-time programmes in physical mode if class timings do not clash. They can also choose one full-time physical programme along with another in distance/online mode. A third option allows students to pursue both programmes through distance or online mode, provided the institutions are approved by UGC or relevant statutory bodies. Syndicate member Rasheed Ahmed P, who proposed the initiative, said the move is intended to support students' diverse interests and talents. He said it will allow students to combine disciplines such as science, social science and humanities, helping them broaden their academic background and improve career prospects through a wider set of skills. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo "We are planning to launch the programme this academic year. Though two full-time degrees may not be available this year, full-time students would be able to enroll for distance education courses once the order is issued," he added. Meanwhile, CU would have to draw up the modalities to ensure that exam dates won't clash. The academic council also decided not to approve the admission of a student who had joined a degree course at Oriental School of Hotel Management, Vythiri, Wayanad, without the mandatory Plus Two qualification. The syndicate has been asked to take action against the institution for granting this unauthorized admission in 2014–15. The council also discussed a 2011 case in which a student of BSc Electronics course submitted a forged certificate before passing the exam. The forgery was discovered when the certificate, created for job purposes, was submitted to CU for verification. The same student later passed the exam through revaluation and applied for the original degree certificate. The council recommended that the degree should not be awarded.
