‘The Goal Is AFCON': Regragui Praises Team's Depth After Latest Victory
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Regragui highlighted the significance of winning the high-stakes Maghreb derby, especially considering the absence of several key players.
'I am very happy with the victory, despite the difficulties we endured,' he said. 'We must not forget that we were missing several key players , yet the win came in a way reminiscent of Tunisia's style — from a corner kick and a last-minute counterattack, which is how Tunisia has historically secured victories in past matches.'
Regragui also praised the contribution of the substitutes, emphasizing the depth of Morocco's bench. 'The strength of our bench made a decisive difference, which is very encouraging for me, as our goal for the Africa Cup of Nations demands a squad rich in quality.'
Addressing the notable absences of Brahim Diaz , Nayef Aguerd, and Noussair Mazraoui, Regragui offered insight into the precautionary approach taken with Diaz. 'We have a strong and positive relationship with Real Madrid, and we didn't want to risk Brahim by having him play against Tunisia, especially considering the potential for unwanted complications, as the club depends on him for the FIFA Club World Cup,' Regragui explained.
The coach went on to reassure fans about Diaz's recovery progress, stressing: 'Thankfully, Brahim is recovering and improving, and I am happy to have him with us despite his injury. His club is closely monitoring and supporting him. This flexibility on our part will keep our relationship with Real Madrid strong.'

He further noted the case of Abdel Samad El Yezdouli, who was managed carefully after his participation in a European final, clarifying the priority is not merely player appearances in friendlies but ensuring 'their full readiness for the future.'
Expressing gratitude toward the fans, Regragui thanked the supporters in Fez for their passionate backing. He also highlighted the internal competition among players, which he believes strengthens the team. 'Sanad and El Kaabi have pushed En-Nesyri to perform better, and this competition benefits the Moroccan national team.'
Yesterday's win over Tunisia extends Morocco's winning streak to 12 matches under Regragui's leadership.
Of his tactical approach, Regragui explained that his staff prepared the team thoroughly, especially focusing on set pieces, a critical area they emphasized during training. Both teams came out eager to impose their style, resulting in an intense and balanced first half.
Despite some visible fatigue among players after a long and exhausting season, Regragui expressed satisfaction with their effort, stressing that the positive result remains paramount as Morocco continues its preparations for official and friendly matches in 2025.
The Moroccan national team is set to play their second friendly match this Monday, June 9, at Fez Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:00 PM (GMT+1). Tags: Achraf HakimiMorocco national teammorocco tunisiaWalid Regragui

CHAN 2024: Nigeria vs Congo – How to Watch & Score Prediction
Nigeria take on Congo in their final Group D fixture at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, with both sides heading into the match under pressure for different reasons. Moroccan referee Mustapha Kechaf will blow the kick-off whistle at 6:00 pm (GMT+1), and fans can catch the action live on BeIN Sports MENA, BeIN Sports France, DSTV, SABC Sport, and New World TV. The Super Eagles have already been eliminated after back-to-back defeats, but the team is eager to finish on a positive note. 'We need a win for the country. We'll give everything against Congo,' said the coach. 'The two defeats affected us, but we must bounce back.' Congo still have a chance of progressing, but their fate does not rest entirely in their own hands. They must win against Nigeria and then wait on the outcome of the group's other match between Sudan and Senegal. Anything less than three points would almost certainly see their campaign come to an end. Both teams are expected to approach the contest with urgency. For Nigeria, the objective is to restore pride and show resilience after a difficult tournament. For Congo, the task is simple: win and hope results elsewhere go in their favour. Coaches from both camps have stressed that the result will be settled on the pitch. With little to separate the sides on recent form, the contest could be decided by small margins and late drama. Supporters inside the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium are set for a tense encounter, with Nigeria playing for respect and Congo fighting for survival. Predicted Score: On balance, Congo may have more to play for, but Nigeria will want to avoid leaving the tournament without a point. A tightly contested game is expected, with a 1-1 draw looking the most likely result. Tags: CHAN 2024Congonigeria

Houcine Ammouta Parts Ways with Al Jazira
Al Jazira have confirmed the departure of head coach Houcine Ammouta following the club's defeat to Khorfakkan. The Emirati side announced the termination of his contract this week, thanking Ammouta and his backroom staff for their work and wishing them success in the future. The loss to Khorfakkan, in which Moroccan forward Tarik Tissoudali scored once and provided two assists, appears to have been a decisive factor. Ammouta joined Al Jazira in the summer of 2024 on a two-year deal, aiming to restore the club to the top of Emirati football. His spell, however, ends less than a year later. The 55-year-old has enjoyed a notable coaching career. With Jordan, he guided the national team to their first AFC Asian Cup final in 2023 and helped them top their World Cup qualifying group, laying the groundwork for the 2026 qualifiers and the 2027 Asian Cup. His approach, based on possession, high pressing and quick transitions, proved highly effective, bringing the best out of players such as Musa Al-Tamari and Yazan Al-Naimat. He stepped down from the Jordan post in June 2024 for personal reasons. His successor, Jamal Sellami, later led the side to their first World Cup qualification, building on the foundations Ammouta left behind. Tags: Al JaziraAmmoutaUAE

Barcelona Drama: Alonso Weighs in on Controversial Ferran Torres Goal
FC Barcelona opened their LaLiga season with a 3-0 win over nine-man Mallorca at Estadi Son Moix on Saturday, in a match marked by controversy and fierce protests from the home side. The major talking point came in the first half when Ferran Torres scored for Barcelona despite Mallorca claiming one of their players was down with a potential head injury. The referee allowed play to continue, and Torres converted, sparking outrage from Mallorca's bench and fans. Mallorca manager Jagoba Arrasate told Mundo Deportivo: 'We've all seen that incident, and last week they explained it to us in the debriefing. If there's a blow to the head, the game stops. We all thought he blew the whistle but he gives a goal; I don't quite understand. He [the referee] came, I appreciate it, and he says Raillo wasn't dizzy, even though he doesn't know that.' Ahead of his LaLiga managerial debut with Real Madrid tomorrow, Xabi Alonso was asked for his views on the refereeing decisions in Mallorca's defeat. The Basque coach expressed cautious agreement with Arrasate, while keeping a measured stance. 'It's not my place to comment on what's happening in other parties, but I did hear what Jagoba Arrasate said, and he explained it very well,' Alonso said. Alonso also reiterated Real Madrid's opposition to the planned relocation of the Villarreal vs Barcelona fixture to the United States later this year. 'I fully agree with the club's statement. If the rules are changed, it must be with the approval of all clubs, and that hasn't happened,' he added. Turning to Barcelona's rising star, Lamine Yamal, Alonso acknowledged the youngster's impact but remained focused on tomorrow's fixture. 'I don't have a blood pressure monitor. He's been an important player for Barça and the national team. It's time to face him,' he said. Tags: BarcelonaReal MadridXabi Alonso
