Retired NFL star Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson issued a warning to fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel after the six-year 49ers veteran requested a trade out of San Francisco on Super Bowl Sunday.
'The grass isn't always greener on the other side,' Johnson told 'Night Cap' co-host and fellow NFL great Shannon Sharpe. 'It's not always greener on the other side, and hopefully, he doesn't find that out, but if he goes to the wrong place, he will.'
Samuel has established a 'Swiss Army Knife' reputation for his success out wide, in the slot, in the backfield or on jet sweeps.
The pair of NFL alumni discussed how Samuel's unique skill set might not be as soundly utilized elsewhere as it has been with the 49ers. Johnson, in particular, is worried Samuel might not find a better offensive mastermind to work with than San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan.
'It's cool. I understand it,' Johnson told Sharpe. 'I think about Deebo's skill set, I think about what Deebo brings to the table and how he's such a Swiss Army Knife and can do so many different things from an offensive perspective.
'I would love his creativity — I don't think there'd be any room for him — in Kansas City [Chiefs] … there's only one Andy Reid … there's only one Sean McVay. McVay's [Los Angeles Rams] offense would be good for Samuel.'
Johnson also mentioned the Green Bay Packers as a possible terminus for Samuel.
Samuel, 29, has posted 5,935 yards from scrimmage and 42 touchdowns over 81 career games. He was an AP All-Pro and NFL Pro Bowl selection in 2021.
There is no telling or indication of where the trade requestee will end up. All Johnson wants Samuel to know is that the wideout might not find a better situation than his current one in the Bay.

He hasn't paced an NFL sideline since the 2020 NFL season, but it's good to have him back. While he's in town, the Ravens may as well help him handle some unfinished business. Chuck Pagano has an opportunity to win a Super Bowl that he missed out on the last time He's the owner of a coaching resume that many would love to have. His journey began in 1984 as a graduate assistant at USC. Fate eventually led him to Baltimore. Pagano spent three years as the Ravens' secondary coach before assuming the title of defensive coordinator in 2011. That season didn't go as planned. It ended with Billy Cundiff's missed field goal in the AFC Championship Game vs. the New England Patriots. Three days later, Coach Pagano was introduced as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Baltimore would win the Super Bowl one year later, in Ray Lewis and Ed Reed's final season with the team. Chuck still has yet to taste Super Bowl glory. You can see where all of this is headed, right? More than 13 years separate Coach Pagano's exit from his return. This season feels like unfinished business, both for the Ravens and their secondary coach. As he did many moons ago, he's fortunate to have some talent in the secondary. Kyle Hamilton and Marlon Humphrey are his Pro Bowlers. Malaki Starks is the talented rookie. Pagano has never been a stranger to hard work. Starks recently shared a story of his position coach texting him about film at 5 a.m. That's precisely the type of work ethic this team will need to win it all. Two seasons ago, they lost in the AFC Championship Game. A year ago, they were bounced in the Divisional Round. Might this be their year? Let's hope so for the fans, this roster, and some returning friends.

Vikings, OC Wes Phillips agree to contract extension
The Minnesota Vikings will keep Wes Phillips as their offensive coordinator for a little while longer. According to Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star Tribune, the Vikings and Phillips have agreed to a contract extension. Phillips' deal was set to expire after the 2025 season, but the team is adding one more year to his contract, keeping him on the coaching staff through 2026. Advertisement Phillips joined the Vikings as their offensive coordinator in 2022 after three years with the Los Angeles Rams on Sean McVay's staff. Before that, he was Washington's tight ends coach from 2014-2018, spending three years on the same staff as McVay and two years with Kevin O'Connell. The Vikings have ranked seventh, 10th and 12th in total yards under Phillips the last three years but will look to improve those numbers in 2025 with J.J. PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers revealed during his introductory press conference on Tuesday that he looks forward to serving as a mentor for rookie Will Howard. 'Will's a good kid,' Rodgers said. 'Got to talk a little bit. I thought he did really well today. he seems pretty bright. [The game's] not too big for him. He got through progressions really well. I'm gonna be with him every single day and every single meeting. Found my seat next to him in the offensive meeting… I'm gonna help him out as much as I can.' Advertisement Howard is chomping at the bit to learn from one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history. 'I was fired up,' Howard said when he heard that Rodgers signed with the Steelers. 'Believe me. That's a guy I grew up watching, idolizing, and it's cool to be in the same room with him. Just hearing, first day, his thoughts and the way that he looks at things. He's a legend in this game. I'm gonna try and learn as much as I can from him and be the best support guy that I can be for him. I think it's amazing. The opportunity for me to learn and to work with a guy like that is second to none.' Having the chance to learn from a four-time NFL MVP like Aaron Rodgers will only set Howard up for success at the next level, and he knows that.
