PS5 First-Party Game Replaces Creative Director Ahead of Launch
is just a few months away from its planned release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, it seems the studio is shaking things up as has named a new Creative Director for the cooperative first-person shooter. As pointed out by X, Julia Nardin, who was originally the Narrative Director for Marathon, is now the Creative Director for the upcoming shooter. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was given the new role in May 2025. Previously, Steven Cotton was the Creative Director of Marathon. It is currently unclear why Nardin shifted to the new role and what position Cotton now holds after the shift. Nardin has been with Bungie for nearly six years, where she has helped shape the narrative of multiple Destiny seasons. She was promoted to Narrative Director for Destiny: The Final Shape and Marathon. Previously, she was with ArenaNet, working on the popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2. Although the reasoning for the move is unknown, it has caused a bit of a stir for those anticipating Bungie's next release. In a recent Reddit thread about Nardin's new role, gamers have already assumed the worst is coming to PlayStation's next live service game. 'Yeah, changing the director a few months before release does not signify much confidence,' says one user. 'Hopefully after Concord, and the inevitable upcoming failure of Marathon and Fairgames, this signals a full-scale retreat from this kind of cynical cash grab live service horseshit,' says another user. PlayStation's live service effort hasn't quite gone there way. Although Helldivers 2 was a huge success, it was followed by Concord, one of the company's biggest flops in history. Sony has even cancelled some of these projects, including a God of War multiplayer game by Bluepoint Games. Marathon is slated to release on September 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. 3 PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (June 13-15)
After the State of Play last week, followed by all the Summer Game Fest announcements, PlayStation fans have tons of upcoming PS5 games to look forward to. The only downside is we can't play them right now. That's where my weekly PS Plus game recommendations come in to save the weekend. This time around, I wanted to mix things up by celebrating Friday the 13th as well as give you some games to wet your appetites for a few of the more exciting game announcements. I've crammed in a classic multiplayer game, brutal single-player adventure, and cult classic strategy title here to cover as many bases as possible. Dead by Daylight Because the official Friday the 13th game has been shut down, I am turning to the next best thing to celebrate this unlucky holiday. Dead by Daylight started out with very clear homages to iconic movie slasher Killers, but eventually got the rights to use tons of official characters like Freddy, Ghostface, and Leatherface. Sadly, the one glaring omission is Jason. Even so, this is an amazing multiplayer horror game, whether you're one of the struggling survivors or a lethal killer hunting them down. It has been a huge hit with fans for over 10 years now so it must be doing something right. This is a great game you can play for just a night or two for some quick spooky fun, or get deep into the progression and play for months. Recommended Videos Dead by Daylight is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Mobile, and PC. Nioh Out of all the announcements from the State of Play this week, I don't think anyone saw Nioh 3 coming. Now that Souls-like games are bigger than ever, I can't wait to see how Team Ninja is evolving the formula, but also think this is the best time to go back and hone my skills in the original. From a gameplay perspective, Nioh still feels amazing. It has the speed of a game like Sekiro or Bloodborne, but with some great twists like the stance system and abundance of loot. The one aspect that might feel a little dated after Elden Ring is the level-based structure, but that also gives it a much more approachable feel; you can dive in for one mission and feel accomplished or take on a dozen. If you've been sleeping on one of the best Souls-like franchises, now is the time to give it a shot. Nioh is available now on PS4, PS5, and PC. Jeanne d'Arc There was a small but passionate group out there who went wild when Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles was revealed. If you are one of them, you know there hasn't been anything that has quite scratched that same tactics itch since this classic title all those years ago. Now that we know it is coming, we need something to hold us over, right? That's where the PSP gem Jeanne d'Arc comes in to save the day. Not only is this a criminally underplayed tactics game, but it is also considered to be almost on the same level as Final Fantasy Tactics. Tactics lovers will find a wealth of gameplay options to tinker with, plus a gripping story that puts a magical twist on historical events. Jeanne d'Arc is available now on PS4 and PS5.

10 Things I Wish I Knew When I Started ‘Stellar Blade,' 2025 PC Edition
Stellar Blade Stellar Blade has stormed onto Steam with a record number of concurrent players for a previously PlayStation-exclusive release. It's more than doubled the previous high, and many players are getting to experience the game for the first time. Back at launch, I beat Stellar Blade twice and did a full NG+ run, and I came away with a lot of lessons I think I can impart to new players. I already wrote this once, but I will do an abridged version of it here. You can go read the old one, but here are the highlights and ten things I wish I knew when I started Stellar Blade. 1) Beta Attacks – I would heavily invest in these, and when I could, I made my build around boosting them specifically. Combos and burst attacks are one thing, but beta builds will be the thing that wipes bosses in particular. 2) Parry and Dodging Help – Obviously, these are two keys to any combat-based game, but if that's not your thing but you still want to play, you can instead turn on a quicktime event setting that replaces those moments with a telegraphed button press. I did not use this at all, but it's an accessibility option if you need it. 3) Boss Shields – Boss battles are going to be extra tough until you know just how much you need to focus on their shield bar. If you break that, it's big damage time, and I would recommend spec-ing into moves and upgrades that will help with that damage. A beta R1+X backflip is a shield-killer I never took off, for instance. In addition to bonuses like gear and outfits, they award large chunks of NPC that will help boost your level more than almost anything else and dump skill points on you. 5) Spam Scan – I suppose this is not an uncommon practice in games that have wall scans, but I would do it almost everywhere you go to the point where it might be annoying. If you don't, you will miss out on tons of upgrades, health and materials, and they are hidden everywhere. 6) Corpse Hunting – These will not give you normal loot like other games, but if you see a corpse, scan and attempt to farm it, as this is how you get things like extra XP and door/chest codes constantly. Stellar Blade 7) Eve Outfit Hunting – This one is a little outdated, given that there have been dozens and dozens of outfits added to the game since I played it, but one key to this is maxing out your reputation with vendors in town to unlock a whole bunch of them for purchase. Maybe you now unlock more than you used to. To craft them, you can flat-out buy materials from Sisters' Junk if you need to. Otherwise, sidequests, hidden chests and boss challenges can get you a lot of outfits. 8) Vendor Rep – Again, vendor rep. It's not just the outfits; it's also materials and gear you cannot find easily otherwise. Increase them enough, and you will get some of the most interesting side quests in the game. All you have to do is spend money there, so it's not that hard once you build up a stash. 9) Point of No Return – It does exist. The game will tell you when you are launching the 'final mission,' and there is no finale that lets you keep playing. If it tells you to finish everything up on the map, do it. But of course, you can start NG+ after and keep all your stuff as you play the story again. Stellar Blade 10) New Game Plus – It's great! SHIFTUP really did this well, which gives you new skill nodes, new moves, better gear upgrades, drone additions and a zillion new outfits, naturally. Some games don't do this well, but Stellar Blade does. Enjoy, it's a great time. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram.
