PS5 First-Party Game Replaces Creative Director Ahead of Launch
is just a few months away from its planned release for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, it seems the studio is shaking things up as has named a new Creative Director for the cooperative first-person shooter.
As pointed out by X, Julia Nardin, who was originally the Narrative Director for Marathon, is now the Creative Director for the upcoming shooter. According to her LinkedIn profile, she was given the new role in May 2025. Previously, Steven Cotton was the Creative Director of Marathon. It is currently unclear why Nardin shifted to the new role and what position Cotton now holds after the shift.
Nardin has been with Bungie for nearly six years, where she has helped shape the narrative of multiple Destiny seasons. She was promoted to Narrative Director for Destiny: The Final Shape and Marathon. Previously, she was with ArenaNet, working on the popular MMORPG Guild Wars 2.
Although the reasoning for the move is unknown, it has caused a bit of a stir for those anticipating Bungie's next release. In a recent Reddit thread about Nardin's new role, gamers have already assumed the worst is coming to PlayStation's next live service game.
'Yeah, changing the director a few months before release does not signify much confidence,' says one user.
'Hopefully after Concord, and the inevitable upcoming failure of Marathon and Fairgames, this signals a full-scale retreat from this kind of cynical cash grab live service horseshit,' says another user.
PlayStation's live service effort hasn't quite gone there way. Although Helldivers 2 was a huge success, it was followed by Concord, one of the company's biggest flops in history. Sony has even cancelled some of these projects, including a God of War multiplayer game by Bluepoint Games.
Marathon is slated to release on September 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Sony Group held a business segment presentation earlier today, during which the company teased a 'multi-generational' plan for and . PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino pledged 'new and enhanced' ways for players to play games on both platforms. Nishino acknowledged that there's a lot of interest surrounding the PS6 already, and while he understandably couldn't divulge future plans, he did say that the upcoming console is 'top of mind' for Sony. However, seeing the high levels of engagement from PS4 players well beyond the launch of PS5, the company intends to disrupt traditional approach to console life cycles. What this essentially means is that unlike the switch from PS3 to PS4, the current generation validated Sony's new 'multi-generational' approach, and it plans to continue using that strategy going forward. 'We're still exploring what the future of our platform would look like,' added Sony Interactive Entertainment SVP Lynn Azar. 'We've reduced traditional cyclicality by establishing a large ecosystem of players across both the PS5 and PS4 generations.
