Most popular hairstyles for men - and the one everyone thinks suits them

Daily Mirror22-07-2025
A poll of 2,000 males found most men have stuck with the same hairstyle because they don't have the confidence to change it
The typical bloke has had the same haircut for over ten years. A survey of 2,000 men revealed most chaps have kept the same style because they don't have the confidence to switch it up, or worry about what people might say if they do.

According to the study men settle on their look by the age of 31, with short back and sides being the most popular choice (35 per cent), followed by the buzzcut (16 per cent). The 'alpaca back and sides' – inspired by the animal's fleece – emerged as another trendy option, especially amongst 25 to 34 year olds.

Following the research commissioned by Alpacalypse Session IPA by SALT Brewery, a pop-up Shearer Shop offering one haircut – the alpaca back and sides – has been launched.
Brewery spokesman Edd Simpson said: "We knew Alpacalypse would turn heads - we just didn't expect it to be at the barbershop. Now everyone wants the alpaca back and sides."
The study discovered that amongst those yet to try the style, most regard it as a 'cool' cut and reckon it would work for them, with a quarter saying they're 'likely' to have a go.

It emerged those polled were most experimental with their style aged 22. Yet, of all the things men are most likely to experiment with – such as clothes and cuisine, their hair is the area they are least open to doing something new with.
A third of respondents said they 'might' be open to changing their hairstyle after consulting with a trusted hairdresser, and a fifth confessed they might contemplate a new look following a significant life event such as a break up or a job change.
The study, conducted by OnePoll, revealed that 38 per cent care about others' opinions on their appearance - with 28 per cent believing they are more fashionable than their friends.
Those surveyed also disclosed which animals they believe have the best hair – the male lion topped the list, followed by the Samoyed dog, highland cattle, and the alpaca.
Richard Tucker, senior barber at Ruffians, who has partnered with Alpacalypse Session IPA by SALT Brewery for the pop-up, stated: "We're delighted to host the Alpacalyse Shearer Shop as Brits embrace a new look."

How to throw the ultimate summer BBQ or picnic with kids at home - without breaking the bank

Entertaining guru Matilda Bea - who has more than 500,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok - shares her top 10 tips and reveals how to keep kids happy and parents sane all summer long With the school holidays in full swing and costs soaring, many families are skipping pricey outings and choosing to host garden BBQs and local park picnics instead. And according to entertaining expert Matilda Bea, that doesn't mean sacrificing fun or breaking the bank. ‌ According to a new survey, parents spend more than £100 extra per week over the summer holidays. But for those placing their children in clubs or camps, this rises to a staggering £385 per week, according to the Utility Warehouse survey that quizzed 1,000 parents of five to 15-year-old children. ‌ But having fun with the kids doesn't have to cost a fortune. Here, Matilda shares her top tips with the Mirror for summer BBQs and picnics that look and feel fabulous without breaking the bank. ‌ 1. Set the scene Matilda says lighting and tableware make all the difference. "String up fairy lights, use solar lanterns or pop candles in hurricane jars. The glow as the sun goes down transforms the space." ‌ Her favourite budget-friendly finds is the £20 Habitat Large Hurricane with Wooden Legs and the £15 Solar Filament Bulb Lantern to "create an instant good vibe". 2. Get inspired by TikTok BBQ season has gone viral once again on TikTok as Brits hope for another heatwave comeback this summer. "Whether you're taking full reign of the grill or curating the most epic spread of sides, it's all about teamwork, fun, and delicious food," Matilda says. "Sharing plates are a staple for making your BBQ or picnic look more curated - and it requires minimal effort." ‌ 3. Bring the indoors out Indoor/outdoor living can be a lifesaver for parents this summer, with bringing toys outside helping to keep the kids entertained while you are hosting. Layer up tablecloths, bring out proper cutlery and colourful dishes. "I hosted a garden party recently with 12 friends - tablecloths laid widthways and clashing napkins made it feel so joyful." ‌ Don't be afraid of colour. "Bold tones and mixed glassware add so much life to the table." 4. Pick a theme Not everything has to match, but a visual thread helps. "Lemons and blue for an Amalfi vibe, terracotta and wildflowers for Spanish summer." And for those wanting a money saving trick, Matilda suggests naming it "BYOB - bring your own buns!" ‌ 5. Plan for the British weather "Umbrellas, parasols, or even a chic throw-over pergola mean your party won't be a washout," she says. "And honestly, a little drizzle never hurt anyone when the spritzes are flowing and the playlists on point." 6. Create a Signature Station Matilda loves a station setup - drinks bars, condiments corners, even DIY sandwich or taco tables. ‌ And for the kids, these can be lifesavers if you set up a station just for them filled with their favourite snacks and drinks. "A drinks cart with elderflower spritzes or mocktails is such a moment. Or go full retro with a cordial and soda bar," she adds. "You can easily adapt this into a DIY ice cream bar, s'mores tray, or even a condiment corner with Sainsbury's Spicy Truffle Aioli - my favourite!" 7. Get ahead on prep 'Do what you can the night before - marinate skewers, chop salads, chill drinks. Then you're free to enjoy the day.' ‌ For shortcuts on a budget, Matilda swears by Sainsbury's summer range: 'The Coffee & Mascarpone Tart is a no-brainer for dessert.' 8. Seating is everything Low picnic rugs, poufs and fold-up chairs create a casual but stylish setup. "If you're heading to a local park, plenty of brands now offer beautiful foldable chairs and patterned rugs - they instantly elevate the setup and make it feel more curated." ‌ 9. Tableware Tableware doesn't have to cost a fortune and can be as simple as picking up some cheap, colourful tablecloths to throw over your old patio set. "A mix of vintage glasses or bold napkins can really bring the table to life," Matilda says. "Think clashing in the best way." ‌ 10. Tie it into summer sports With the Lionesses picking up a big win this weekend, it's the perfect time to plan ahead of more summer sports this season. "From F1 Sundays to the Euros or the Olympics, sport can be a great backdrop to your gathering," Matilda says. "Having it playing in the background gives everyone a natural talking point and keeps the energy upbeat, even during the mid-afternoon lull." Bonus tips for budget picnicking with the kids Freeze juice cartons for ice-cold drinks on the go Bring bubble wands or chalk for easy, mess-free park fun Use reusable plates and napkins to save money and waste Keep meals simple and sharable: pasta salads, wraps, cut fruit, and crisps always go down well Have kids help with the setup - it gives them a sense of pride and keeps them busy

Popular websites that you may not expect now have ID checks. But how does the check work? The way Brits surf the internet has undergone a seismic shift as the Online Safety Act comes into force. Web users now face having to prove their age when visiting sites with adult content. First passed into law back in 2023, the bill started to take effect on Friday (July 25) and has already caused some huge changes. Prompts to pass an age-check have been introduced - and not only on major pornography websites. Here's all you need to know: Which websites require age verification now? Reddit has introduced age-checks under the Online Safety Act's new rules | TIMOTHY A. CLARY/AFP via Getty Images If you live in the UK, you may have noticed from Friday (July 25) that websites and apps you frequent might have started asking you to prove your age. New rules from the Online Safety Act have come into force, and it includes requiring ID verification for websites that contain pornography or other harmful content. However, while you may have anticipated the age checks being introduced on big-name porn sites, there are other popular websites or apps affected that might have caught you by surprise. Here are some of the sites that have introduced the new rules: Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad X (formerly Twitter) Reddit Discord Bluesky Grindr Pornhub - and other pornography websites BBC News reports that age verification checks on Reddit have been introduced across a wide range of subreddits - such as ones involving alcohol, as well as those dedicated to NSFW content. Technology Secretary Peter Kyle told BBC Newsbeat: 'We're very used to proving our age in lots of different areas of life at the moment, and it makes sense that we do so more assertively when it comes to online activity. "I think people actually think it's pretty weird that you are age checked when you want to buy a can of Monster, but you're not age checked when you access certain material online." Speaking to the Beeb, Reed Amber Thomas-Litman, a sex worker and educator, warned that the age checks could negatively impact people who don't feel confident sharing their identity, such as those in the LGBTQ+ community. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad She explained: 'If you have to hand over your ID, that means you have no protection for where that information is going. It could go to third-party companies, and who knows what they'll do with that information." How does age verification work? Ahead of the introduction of the new rules, under the Online Safety Act, last week Ofcom explained how the system would work. The regulator explains: 'When you visit a site or app that allows pornography, you shouldn't be able to see this content before you're asked to confirm your age. 'To make the experience more accessible and transparent, you should be able to read a statement setting out the kinds of age checks that you can use, and how they work.' Internet users in the UK can use the following methods to prove their age, Ofcom has said. If there are no restrictions, this confirms you are over 18. Photo-ID matching – this is similar to a check when you show a document. For example, you upload an image of a document that shows your face and age, and an image of yourself at the same time – these are compared to confirm if the document is yours. The exact method of age-checking may vary depending on the website or app. Reddit, for example, uses the Persona service, The Verge reports . Savvy internet users have already found ways around the checks, including using images of actor Norman Reedus from the video game Death Stranding - instead of their own faces. Demand for VPNs is also said to have 'skyrocketed' as it allows people to circumvent the rules by making it appear that they are using the internet outside the UK. In a bid to assuage concerns about privacy and security of information, Ofcom said: 'Strong age checks can be done effectively, safely, and in a way that protects your privacy. As with everything you do online, you should exercise a degree of caution and judgment when giving over personal information. 'Data protection in the UK is regulated and enforced by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). We work closely with the ICO and where we have concerns that a provider has not complied with data protection law, we may refer the matter to the ICO. Age checks to access online pornography are just the same. 'It will help stop children from encountering pornography online, in the same way that a child should not be able to simply walk into a shop and buy a pornographic DVD or magazine.' Cadbury fans rush to B&M to try 'amazing' new Dairy Milk flavour

A new, unique Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate bar with a twist has hit B&M stores around the UK – and chocolate fans are desperate to get their hands on the fresh product There is no feeling like taking a bite of a delicious chocolate bar when you are in need of a pick-me-up or energy boost. Often, with so much choice on the market and new products being released all the time – such as the new Cadbury Bournville flavours – it can be hard to choose which one to go for. While the classics never go amiss, it is always fun to try something new - and fans are buzzing over this new Cadbury flavour. ‌ If you are a fan of the Dairy Milk Marvellous Creations bars – known for their jelly popping candy hidden inside the chocolate pieces – you are bound to enjoy this new treat. The new combination contains cola-flavoured jellies and fizzy candy chips, alongside the famous popping candy. The product has been available some time in Australia, but now Brits can get their hands on them, too. ‌ In April this year, a large sharing-size bar of the Marvellous Creations Cola Fizz was spotted in B&M. But now, you can get the treats in 50 portions for £1, perfect for when you're on the go or you don't want to share. ‌ Popular social media food page, New Foods UK, who always find the latest product drops in stores, shared a snap of the treats on Facebook and Instagram. The post reads: "Dairy Milk Cola Marvellous Creations bars back at B&M stores." "Sounds absolutely amazing," commented one individual. Another said: "Love this very nice." ‌ "Omg I need to go B&M," insisted one other. Another observed: "These looks interesting. May have to try." "Oh these look good," added one other. "Chocolate and coke," said another, who loves the flavour combination. ‌ Others don't seem as keen, as one said: "I literally shuddered seeing this. a bad way." "Unsure but also need to try," said one divided individual. One other suggested: "Get rid of the jelly bits and just mix the chocolate and popping candy bits with cola which would be much better." One B&M worker issued a warning when the 100g version came into stores, and said: "Work at B&M and just a heads up before people start rushing in and saying to staff 'yeah but it's all over Facebook'; not every store gets stuff in at exactly the same time, like when people see stuff cheap etc not every store especially the smaller ones have it in." In other food news, a nine-year-old who was addicted to Shreddies and McDonald's chicken nuggets from the age of two has overcome his addiction - and it's all thanks to hypnosis.
