Kikkoman launches 'The Kikkoman Manga' to accelerate the switch to its soy sauce by more restaurants in India
Here's the story of the first episode: Pramod, a chef with exceptional skills, learns he is getting fired from his job after unilaterally changing the restaurant's menu. Amid all the tension, he coincidentally meets Varun, a restaurant owner-chef who has inherited his father's restaurant. The two connect through their shared passion for cooking and work together to rebuild the restaurant, transforming it into a popular eatery through the use of the condiment they both swear by - Kikkoman Soy Sauce.
Chef Manjit Gill, President of the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations and Kikkoman India Industry Advisor, enjoyed the story thoroughly and felt a touch of nostalgia.
"I strongly believe that Kikkoman's message will resonate with many chefs in India. There are said to be more than 200,000 chefs in the organized sector alone," he said.
"I was fondly reminded of my own younger days - when the hero was trying hard, making all possible efforts to make dishes more delicious - using the best ingredients. I look forward to this story reaching out to a wide audience, making real impact in India. In fact, I'm waiting impatiently for the next episode of this interesting Kikkoman Manga."
Currently, Kikkoman India is directly engaging with top chain restaurants and large format restaurants, gradually increasing its brand recognition and adoption. However, awareness of Kikkoman among owners and chefs of smaller restaurants, as well as line/junior chefs, and cooks in restaurants, remains relatively low.
The Kikkoman Manga project's primary aim is to introduce the Kikkoman brand to chefs who are unfamiliar with it, to encourage chefs to consider trying Kikkoman, and to convey that Kikkoman Soy Sauce can also be used in Chinese cuisine.
Kikkoman hopes the use of this compelling form of storytelling will accelerate the move to Kikkoman Soy Sauce becoming a vital ingredient in enhancing taste.
Language will not be a barrier. The Kikkoman Manga will be available in English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi.

Map Shows Alaska's Natural Resources That Trump Could Offer Putin
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Newsweek has mapped the coastal areas around Alaska that could be part of an incentive deal President Donald Trump offers Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war with Ukraine. Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper reported that access to Alaska's natural resources—oil and gas—could be up for discussion when the leaders meet in Anchorage on Friday, as well as rare earth minerals in Ukraine and lifting some sanctions on Russia's aviation sector. A White House official told the Daily Telegraph that it would not comment on deliberative conversations that may or may not be happening. Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment. U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' summit in Danang, Vietnam, on November 17, 2017. U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders' summit in Danang, Vietnam, on November 17, 2017. Why It Matters The Bering Strait separates Alaska from Russia where they are less than 3 miles apart. As well as being strategically important because of melting Arctic sea ice and expanding shipping routes, it could also be a gateway to considerable undiscovered oil reserves. Alaska's oil and gas exploration leases are concentrated on its North Slope facing the Arctic Ocean and in the Pacific-facing Cook Inlet connecting the Gulf of Alaska to Anchorage. In the 1980s, U.S. energy companies drilled into the Bering Sea looking for untapped reserves, but all of those wells have been abandoned and the area is strictly regulated because of environmental concerns. There has been angry online reaction to the unconfirmed report that Alaska's resources could be part of a deal with Putin. What To Know Trump will meet with Putin on Friday in Anchorage, where discussions are expected to focus on ending the war in Ukraine which has been raging for 3 1/2 years. The Telegraph said that U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other senior administration officials are working with Trump to finalize economic proposals aimed at incentivizing the Kremlin to agree to a ceasefire. Among them are offering Russia opportunities to tap into the valuable natural resources in the Bering Strait that would bolster its interests in the Arctic region, which accounted for 80 percent of Russia's gas production in 2022. Discussions between the U.S. and Russia over cooperation in the Arctic started at the beginning of Trump's second term, with Bloomberg reporting in February that officials from both countries discussed economic cooperation in the region. Andreas Østhagen, research director of Arctic and ocean politics at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, told Newsweek that the proximity of Alaska's location to Russia for Friday's summit sent a strong signal about the Arctic's importance for both countries. He said some of the motivation from the Trump administration to work with Russia stemmed from the idea that U.S.-Russia cooperation could then drive a wedge between the strengthening alliance between Moscow and China in the Arctic. He said there are known quantities of oil and gas in the Chukchi Sea north of the Bering Strait where there was potential to initiate exploration for strategic oil fields, which would require Russian and American companies to collaborate in some fashion, Østhagen added. Berlin-based energy industry expert Thomas O'Donnell told Newsweek that a potential Trump offer for Putin to exploit Alaskan resources was consistent with his Plan A, which offered the Russian president a chance to end the war with oil, gas, and mineral deals. The idea was to induce Putin not only to make a peace deal but to move away from China and back toward the West, but the plan has not worked, he said. Trump's newly approved arms for Ukraine and oil tariffs on India are Plan B, "but, if Putin makes a deal, I'm sure Trump will lavish Putin with investments and trade deals," O'Donnell added. The Telegraph also reported that the U.S. might offer the rare earth minerals in the Ukrainian territories Moscow partially occupied and lift export bans on parts and equipment needed to service Russian planes, many of which have fallen into disrepair. What People Are Saying Republicans Against Trump, on X: "The Telegraph reports that Trump plans to offer Putin access to Alaska's natural resources and sanctions relief if he agrees to a ceasefire Why reward an aggressor who has no interest in a real and lasting ceasefire? Outrageous!" Andreas Østhagen, research director of Arctic and ocean politics at the Fridtjof Nansen Institute, told Newsweek: "if you want to push this idea of collaboration with Russia, in the Chukchi Sea there's potential to initiate exploration." Berlin-based energy industry expert Thomas O'Donnell told Newsweek: "Trump's whole premise is to entice Putin to stop the war in a way that draws him away from China and towards the West." What Happens Next The Kremlin said that the Russian delegation accompanying Putin will include Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov and Russian Direct Investment Fund head Kirill Dmitriev. The Kremlin said that the main topic on Friday will be a settlement of the war in Ukraine, but economic cooperation and global security will also be discussed.

China Market Update: JD & Weibo Beat Estimates In Q2, NetEase Misses Slightly
beat estimates on both top-line revenue and bottom-line net income. The revenue surge was mainly driven by strong growth from instant commerce, mainly through promotions. The net income hit was not as bad as expected, though it did decline 50% quarter-over-quarter. Other alternative income sources, including lower taxes and tax rebates, benefited net income and operating profits. Growth in the crucial home appliance segment was more substantial than expected. Meanwhile, logistics and other revenue increased more than overall revenue, by over 30% year-over-year. According to analysts, JD also continues to increase mindshare in non-traditional product categories. All in all, it was a solid beat as analysts were expecting the worst, us included. NetEase missed estimates for total revenue and slightly missed estimates for earnings per share. The slight miss in game revenue sent the stock lower in Hong Kong overnight. The new agreement with Blizzard/Microsoft should help with profitability, though, over the long term. Evergreen titles performed well. The dividend released this quarter was significant, at one-third of net profits, while buybacks slowed, which is happening all over the internet as share prices recover. The market reaction to NetEase's earnings was likely overblown, but the company has done well so far this year, a top-performer in the internet space. Asian equities were mostly lower overnight, as Vietnam and Mainland China's STAR Market outperformed, while Japan and Hong Kong underperformed. Volumes were substantial overnight in Mainland China, as the STAR Market, which is the Nasdaq of China, gained, while the overall market was lower. Turnover reached a staggering 151% of the 1-year average last night. Bloomberg released a commentary that investors globally are clamoring for Asian exposure. The piece also noted that China is currently favored over India, though the latter could be a better opportunity for fixed income investment due to an impending S&P credit upgrade. Meanwhile, China's government bonds are prime for a sell-off, as investors pivot to equities globally. That is good! Yields in China are rock-bottom and need to rise. The inflation story is also favorable for equities over bonds. China's chronic deflation looks to be coming to an end thanks to key policies, especially 'anti-involution', i.e. the calming of price wars in E-Commerce, and overcapacity curbs for electric vehicles and solar panels, among other industrial outputs. Meanwhile, the consumption push is gradually gaining steam, with the latest development supporting consumer borrowing. However, this takes time, as evidenced by China's flat consumer price index (CPI) in July. Real estate was the top-performing sector in Hong Kong overnight on further assurances that the government will buy up unsold homes to turn them into affordable housing. Most of the troubled developers are now out of the market. Real estate equities in Hong Kong, those left, are seeing demand from investors and appreciating. Their bonds are still trading at discounts, which means they could be the next opportunity for investors. Internet names were mixed overnight, as investors await earnings releases. Social media platform Weibo also reported Q2 earnings overnight, beating many estimates on positive advertising and user growth. Vipshop reported too, beating estimates on net income and revenue on a recovery in apparel sales, which are the platform's bread-and-butter. Oasis Charts A Late-In-Career New Top 40 Hit With A Decades-Old Song
More than 15 years after Oasis went on what was expected to be its last concert trek, the Dig Out Your Soul Tour, the band is back together for a string of shows. The Oasis Live 25 Tour began on July 4 and is expected to end in November, with dates spread out across Europe, the United States, Asia, Australia, and South America. The group has wrapped its shows in the United Kingdom for now, but there's still a lot of excitement connected to the legendary Britpop outfit. This frame, many of the band's most successful albums and singles continue to find space on a multitude of charts. The rockers even manage to collect a brand new top 40 hit with a decades-old tune. 'Slide Away' Debuts Inside the Top 40 'Slide Away' launches on the Official Singles chart this week, opening at No. 31. The title is performing well enough on both streaming platforms and digital download storefronts — which both feed into the competitive tally — that it gives the band yet another smash. A Coincidence on the Charts Oasis has now racked up 31 hits on the Official Singles chart. Fittingly, 'Slide Away' opens at No. 31. The group has collected 28 top 40 hits in the country, as only a handful of cuts have missed out on the region that typically defines a proper win. 'Slide Away' Was Never Pushed as a Single 'Slide Away' was never released as a single, but it becomes a top 40 smash in the U.K. this week nonetheless. The tune is featured on the band's debut full-length Definitely Maybe, which dropped in the summer of 1994 and is now more than 30 years old. 'Slide Away' Falls on Sales and Streaming Rankings As 'Slide Away' launches on the Official Singles roster, it also appears on three other tallies, but declines on all of them. The song slips on the Official Streaming, Official Singles Downloads, and Official Singles Sales charts, settling at Nos. 77, 86, and 90, respectively, six weeks into its life on all three tallies. 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Live Forever' Per Official Charts Company rules, Oasis only claims three spaces on the Official Singles chart at the moment, the most allowed per musical act in a lead role at one time. 'Slide Away' joins 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Live Forever,' which dip slightly to Nos. 22 and 27, respectively. Both of those tracks had previously reached the top 10, and 'Don't Look Back in Anger' is counted among Oasis' No. 1s.
