Oasis Charts A Late-In-Career New Top 40 Hit With A Decades-Old Song

Forbes2 days ago
More than 15 years after Oasis went on what was expected to be its last concert trek, the Dig Out Your Soul Tour, the band is back together for a string of shows. The Oasis Live 25 Tour began on July 4 and is expected to end in November, with dates spread out across Europe, the United States, Asia, Australia, and South America.
The group has wrapped its shows in the United Kingdom for now, but there's still a lot of excitement connected to the legendary Britpop outfit. This frame, many of the band's most successful albums and singles continue to find space on a multitude of charts. The rockers even manage to collect a brand new top 40 hit with a decades-old tune.
'Slide Away' Debuts Inside the Top 40
'Slide Away' launches on the Official Singles chart this week, opening at No. 31. The title is performing well enough on both streaming platforms and digital download storefronts — which both feed into the competitive tally — that it gives the band yet another smash.
A Coincidence on the Charts
Oasis has now racked up 31 hits on the Official Singles chart. Fittingly, 'Slide Away' opens at No. 31. The group has collected 28 top 40 hits in the country, as only a handful of cuts have missed out on the region that typically defines a proper win.
'Slide Away' Was Never Pushed as a Single
'Slide Away' was never released as a single, but it becomes a top 40 smash in the U.K. this week nonetheless. The tune is featured on the band's debut full-length Definitely Maybe, which dropped in the summer of 1994 and is now more than 30 years old.
'Slide Away' Falls on Sales and Streaming Rankings
As 'Slide Away' launches on the Official Singles roster, it also appears on three other tallies, but declines on all of them. The song slips on the Official Streaming, Official Singles Downloads, and Official Singles Sales charts, settling at Nos. 77, 86, and 90, respectively, six weeks into its life on all three tallies.
'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Live Forever'
Per Official Charts Company rules, Oasis only claims three spaces on the Official Singles chart at the moment, the most allowed per musical act in a lead role at one time. 'Slide Away' joins 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Live Forever,' which dip slightly to Nos. 22 and 27, respectively. Both of those tracks had previously reached the top 10, and 'Don't Look Back in Anger' is counted among Oasis' No. 1s.

Justin Timberlake's Fans' Concerns Transition From Performance To Appearance Amid His World Tour

Justin Timberlake's Forget Tomorrow World Tour continues to be a worry-filled affair, but fans are no longer concerned about his lackluster performances. The Prince of Pop's most recent Georgia concert had many worried about his health and urged him to take a well-needed break. This shift in fans' reactions to his tour follows months of backlash over the singer's subpar shows. Justin Timberlake's world tour has faced multiple hiccups, including sound issues and the crowds' negative response to his new album. The entertainer repeatedly promoted his new songs on the tour despite fans' unfamiliarity with the songs. Justin Timberlake's 'Tired' Appearance Sparks Waves Of Support After Timberlake took the stage in Georgia over the weekend, fans rushed to social media to pen their support after noticing his "tired" appearance. These worried admirers assured the singer that resting was okay and vowed to wait patiently until his health improved. Several fans, per The Daily Mail, agreed that Timberlake needed "a break to recharge." They did not criticize his lackluster performances and pushed for understanding, claiming the singer gave his all at the start of the tour before losing his momentum. These positive responses and pleas for understanding came amid severe backlash over Timberlake's concerts. Critics slammed the entertainer for wasting their concert money, claiming his shows were "a lifeless karaoke act" where the crowd did all the singing. The Prince Of Pop Is Allegedly In A Rut A source shed more light on Timberlake's poor performances, claiming he was "in a rut." The Blast reported that they alleged the entertainer was tired of performing his old songs, despite them being a fan favorite, and craved something new and exciting. "It's embarrassing how he's been basically doing karaoke. He knows that he's lost his mojo and he really wants it back," the source added. On the other hand, Timberlake's wife, Jessica Biel, was reportedly concerned about his well-being and the negative impacts of the long tour. Biel, per an insider, "thinks Justin has aged years since he started The Forget Tomorrow World Tour last April." They claimed she witnessed first-hand how the performances had taken their toll on him, "not just physically but emotionally," and hoped Timberlake would take a break. What Critics Have Said About Timberlake's Tour Biel's concerns weren't misplaced, as critics have repeatedly called Timberlake out for his terrible performances. One viral TikTok video captured an aggrieved fan lamenting about the show they attended. The content creator labeled him "an absolute disappointment," echoing similar sentiments to other concertgoers. These upset fans bashed Timberlake for arriving late to the show, yet refusing to perform correctly. They claimed he sang about five words of each song and seemed disconnected from the audience with shades on his face. Critics bashed Timberlake as "rude" and "disrespectful," while others demanded a refund. The same situation occurred in Dublin, where many slammed the singer for dropping his mic and walking lazily around the stage instead of giving an entertaining performance. The Singer Sparked Backlash For Yelling At His Support Crew Another incident that had critics gunning for Timberlake's head occurred this month when a viral video captured him yelling at the support crew. The Blast covered the drama, reporting that many labeled the singer "highly unprofessional" over his heated reaction. Timberlake was performing at the Lytham Festival in the UK as part of his world tour when he experienced sound issues. A staff member approached him to discuss the problem and seemingly estimated the time it would take to resolve the hiccup. It appeared the timeframe did not suit Timberlake, who seemed to be angry as he berated the staffer and another member of the support team. Fans disapproved of the interaction and called the singer out on social media, stressing that he should have been patient instead of yelling. Justin Timberlake Allegedly Considered Reuniting With NSYNC Early this year, it was reported that Timberlake's world tour had fallen beyond expectations. A source claimed the multiple setbacks and negative fan reactions had the media personality reconsidering his status as a solo artist. They alleged he was "embarrassed" after asking fans to sing along to the tracks from his new album, only to realize they were unfamiliar with the songs. Despite this incident, the source noted: "He loves his recent album and loves performing it." However, the source added that the negative response to Timberlake's album and shows "made him realize what needs to be next, and that's an NSYNC reunion." They claimed he believed reuniting with his former boy band would "get him back on track and in the good graces with fans that he may have lost."
