Delaware House race for Milton and Lewes area district decided by 121 votes
Democratic candidate and Delaware Center for Justice Executive Director Alonna Berry won the state House District 20 special election Aug. 5, edging out her opponent by 121 votes. Berry received 4,653 votes in the district that serves the Milton and Lewes areas. Republican Nikki Miller received 4,532 votes, according to unofficial results from the state Department of Elections. Berry said she initially set out to run not just to fill an open seat, but to show up and be present for her constituents, focus on high-quality education, workforce development, and brace for statewide and federal budget cuts. This special election was called to fill the seat left vacant by former House Rep. Stell Parker Selby, who stepped down from her position earlier this summer. Peralta throws 5 strong innings as Brewers manhandle Braves 7-2 to improve best record in majors
ATLANTA (AP) — Freddy Peralta allowed only one run in five innings, Andrew Vaughn singled in two runs in Milwaukee's four-run fourth and the Brewers beat the Atlanta Braves 7-2 on Tuesday night. Milwaukee (69-44) extended its winning streak to five games to improve Major League Baseball's best record. The NL Central-leading Brewers began the day three games ahead of the second-place Chicago Cubs. Peralta (13-5) allowed only four hits in his return to Atlanta, where he participated in All-Star Game festivities last month. Isaac Collins, who hit a three-run homer in Milwaukee's 3-1 win in Monday night's series opener, drove in two runs with two hits. Eli White lined a fourth-inning homer to left field for Atlanta's only run off Peralta. White drew a bases-loaded walk from Aaron Ashby in the seventh. CHICAGO (AP) — Elizabeth Williams had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Kamilla Cardoso added 16 points and 13 boards, and the Chicago Sky beat the Washington Mystics 78-64 on Tuesday night to snap an eight-game losing streak. Chicago (8-21) avoided being swept in the four-game regular-season series. The Sky had lost six straight against the Mystics and five in a row at home in the series. Shakira Austin made a layup to open the scoring but Chicago ripped off a 14-0 run to take the lead for good. Cardoso had 12 points and 10 rebounds in the first half — the 6-foot-7 center's seventh consecutive double-double and ninth this season. Cardoso's layup at the buzzer gave the Sky a 35-28 lead at the end of the second quarter and the Mystics got no closer. Sonia Citron led Washington (13-16) with 13 points and Kiki Iriafen scored 10. The Mystics have lost three in a row and six of eight. Angel Reese (back), who has missed six of the last eight games, and Hailey Van Lith (ankle) did not play for the Sky.
