Prime Video's ‘Bloodaxe' Adds Six To Cast
Prime Video's Viking drama Bloodaxe has added five as series regulars: Karlis Arnolds Avots (January), Rod Hallett (Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles De Menezes), Alina Tomnikov (Donna), Sisse Marie (Rebel Moon), and Rune Temte (Eddie the Eagle). Additionally, Jesper Christensen (Spectre) has boarded as recurring. Avots plays Egil, a poet, farmer, murderer, sorcerer, ladies' man, and a bit of a psychopath, who is seeking revenge on Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux) for the exile of his family to Iceland by Erik's father, King Harald Fairhair. More from Deadline 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Season 2 Recap: What To Remember Ahead Of Season 3 'Upload' Sets Release Date For Fourth & Final Season At Prime Video All The Taylor Swift Songs In 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' So Far ... & Our Predictions On Season 3's Needle Drops Hallett plays Athelstan, the shrewd and powerful King of Wessex, who is also a formidable warrior. Years ago, he formed a strategic alliance with King Fairhair concerning his young son Haakon, and has been grooming him for future leadership, and to ensure his influence extends beyond Wessex. Tomnikov portrays the dual roles of Greta and The Seer. Greta is an esteemed shield maiden and close member of Bloodaxe's trusted group of warriors. However, it's revealed that she has the ability to transform into the form of an ancient woman, known as The Seer, who possesses an all-seeing power, and the ability to divine the future as ordained by the gods themselves. Marie is Thyra, the Queen of Denmark, wife of Gorm, and mother to Gunnhild. She is an admired figure, cunning and steadfast, and will do whatever she can to ensure the longevity of her and Gorm's power and rule. Temte plays Gorm, the King of Denmark, husband to Thyra, and father to Gunnhild. Sharp and devious, Gorm lacks the brash, hot-headedness prized in many Norsemen, but his calculating, diplomatic, and occasionally brutal approach to rule has made him one of the most formidable powers in Scandinavia. Christensen portrays King Harald Fairhair. The First King of all Norway who conquered his many powerful rivals, nearing the end of his legendary reign. Fairhair relies on the love and support of his son, Bloodaxe, and begins to fear that many of his sons are now plotting against him. As previously announced, Jessica Madsen and Levi Miller will also star, playing the respective roles of Bloodaxe's wife Gunnhild, aka the Mother of Kings, and his younger half-brother Haakon the Good. Created, written, and exec produced by Vikings creator Michael Hirst and his son, Horatio Hirst, Bloodaxe follows Erik Bloodaxe, one of history's most famous Norse raiders, and his formidable wife, Gunnhild as they fight for the throne of Norway. In the process, the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom, drawing in the ruthless Kings of other Scandinavian countries, and even a powerful English ruler, the stage is set for a thundering, cataclysmic, compelling and utterly magical new Norse Saga. Officially ordered in March, the show will be produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios, with production beginning in Ireland and Iceland later this summer. Michael and Horatio Hirst will showrun and write, exec producing alongside Morgan O'Sullivan under his O'Sullivan Productions label, Steve Stark under his Toluca Pictures label, Arturo Interian, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, and Fred Toye. Avots and Tomnikov are repped by Lisa Richards Agency and Subtitle Talent; Hallett by United Agents, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Marie by Panorama Agency, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, and Felker Toczek Suddleson; Temte by Actors in Scandinavia and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; and Christensen by Tavistock Wood Management and Spielkind. Robin Wright vs. Olivia Cooke: Prime Video's The Girlfriend Is a Psychological War You Can't Look Away From
Prime Video is cranking up the suspense this fall with its brand-new psychological thriller The Girlfriend, debuting September 10th in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Yesterday, the streaming platform revealed first-look photos and a creepy teaser trailer for the six-part limited series that will take viewers on a twisted game of perception, manipulation, and maternal distrust. Starring Robin Wright (House of Cards, Forrest Gump) and Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon, Sound of Metal), The Girlfriend is based on the best-selling novel by Michelle Frances and will be available exclusively on Prime Video. A Picture-Perfect Life Fractures Under a Smile Front and center is the eponymous Laura, played by Wright, who appears to live a life without flaws: a brilliant career, a wealthy and adoring husband, and a good relationship with her indulgent sole child, Daniel, played by Christopher Laurie Davidson. A veneer of perfection fissures in Laura's life, however, when Daniel returns home from college with his new girlfriend, Cherry (Cooke), a gorgeous and apparently lovely woman, Laura cannot understand and cannot even trust herself with. What begins as quiet apprehension quickly becomes obsession as Laura more and more thinks Cherry to be something other than she claims to be. Is Cherry an evil gold digger? Or is Laura an artist misplacing her own terrors and losing touch with reality? Like in those classic psychological thrillers, the line between reality and fantasy will become blurred, each of the characters keeping secrets, harboring their own wounds, and even playing manipulative games with the others to stay alive or get revenge. 'Truth is in the eye of the beholder,' the trailer ominously suggests, hinting at each episode raising the stakes. Starring alongside Wright and Cooke is a star-studded ensemble cast including: Laurie Davidson (Will, Cats) as Daniel Waleed Zuaiter (Baghdad Central) as Howard Tayna Moodie (Sherwood) as Isabella Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist) as Brigitte Karen Henthorn (Coronation Street) as Tracey Anna Chancellor (Four Weddings and a Funeral) as Lilith Leo Suter (Vikings: Valhalla) as Nicholas Francesca Corney (The Last Full Measure) as Millie This exceptional cast will deliver strong performances that will keep viewers captivated in a world of suspicion, manipulation, and dysfunctional family relationships. The Girlfriend is produced by Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, with a team of heavyweight creatives attached to the show. Executive producers are: Robin Wright Jonathan Cavendish Caroline Norris Will Tennant Phil Robertson John Zois Dave Clarke Gabbie Asher Michelle Frances, author of the source novel The series is available for TV adaptation by Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher, and the episodes are written by a robust team of writers that includes Polly Cavendish, Helen Kingston, Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis, Smita Bhide, and Matt Evans. The teaser trailer, released this morning, is not one to get bogged down in establishing a climate of icy tension. It is packed full of silent domestic spaces invaded by guilt-stricken glances, mysterious interchanges between Laura and Cherry, and flashes of dangerous uncertainty, all backed by an atmospheric score. Robin Wright's commanding presence dominates the screen as a tightly wound mom, and Olivia Cooke radiates mystery as the girlfriend whose smile might just be concealing a blade. The trailer eliminates any uncertainty: The Girlfriend isn't just a jealousy-driven thriller. It's a study in identity, power, and the debilitating fear that you might not really know the person at dinner opposite you. As psychological thrillers continue to dominate prestige television with titles such as The Undoing, Sharp Objects, or The Night Manager, Prime Video has clearly found its next slow-burn success. With Robin Wright's return to leading a series and Olivia Cooke's rapidly increasing star power, The Girlfriend is already one of the most suspenseful, watercooler-worthy shows of the year. Seek out fan theories, Twitter buzz, and more than a few screaming-at-the-TV moments when The Girlfriend debuts all six episodes on September 10. Watch the teaser trailer now on Prime Video and hang in there for further sneak peeks as the premiere approaches. ‘Love Is Blind' Stars Sara and Joey Are Officially Dating
Sara Carton and Joey Leveille may not have been a couple on season 8 of Love Is Blind, but the cast members came out of the pods with a connection of their own. On Sunday, July 13, Sara and Joey debuted their 'ship with a joint Instagram post, which showed them on a rooftop, kissing for the camera. 'Happy 🥹. My newest life chapter title,' the caption read. Their relationship came as a shock to fans of the Netflix reality series, who watched them explore relationships with other people during the season. '😮 so it's trueee LIB works just not on camera lol,' one fan wrote, while another added, 'Wait a darn minute!!! I'm gonna have to go rewatch this season. 😂😂.' In case you need a refresher: Joey was originally coupled with Monica Danús and made it to the altar on the eighth season of Love Is Blind, but they decided not to go through with the marriage. Sara also made it out of the pods with her original partner, Ben Mezzenga, but later called off the wedding. Though Ben asked if she would want to explore their connection off the show, she stood on business when it came to her decision. 'If you're going to say no to that [marriage], why even continue the relationship?' she told People during an exit interview. 'That's been a theme of mine where I know in the past, my past relationships, I know that this person isn't my person, but oh, maybe they can change, or maybe there was potential there. I can see us growing together. And I didn't want to continue the cycle of that.' Sara and Joey's hard-launch comes after Sara denied she was dating Joey during an episode of The Viall Files in March. 'To be clear, me and Joey are not dating,' she said, later adding, 'I don't know what the future will hold. I definitely have no capacity to even think about a relationship.' Then, during a May appearance on the Dear Shandy podcast, she clarified that they weren't 'dating officially' but that they were exploring their relationship. 'To keep it short and concise right now, a lot of people think of dating in different terms, so to keep it clear, dating officially—like boyfriend-girlfriend—we're not,' Sara explained at the time. 'We are dating in the sense of exploring our relationship and getting to know one another.' As for their exes, Monica and Ben, who sparked dating rumors of their own? Sorry to report that those two actually are just friends. On the Girl Please podcast back in April, Ben said of himself and Monica, 'We're not intentionally trolling, just having fun making content together and just letting the world take it as they want.'
