Zach Neto makes Angels history with leadoff home run on Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Zach Neto is at it again. The Los Angeles Angels star drilled a deep leadoff home run on Monday night to kick off their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Anaheim. Neto hit the very first pitch of the night from Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The shot was his 18th home run of the year and his eighth leadoff homer of the season, which set a new Angels single-season record. Brian Downing held the previous record back in 1987. Neither are even close to the all-time record, however. Kyle Schwarber hit 15 last season with the Philadelphia Phillies to set the MLB single-season record. Rickey Henderson holds the all-time leadoff record with 81 in his career. The home run was the 49th of Neto's career as a shortstop, which is second in franchise history behind only Jim Fregosi. The 24-year-old entered the night holding a .266 batting average with 46 RBI this season, his third in the league. The Angels ended up scoring two in the opening inning, thanks to an RBI single from Yoan Moncada. The Angels entered Monday's game, which kicked off a three-game series with the Dodgers, with a 56-62 record. That has them in fourth in the AL West. The Dodgers, on the other hand, are clinging to a narrow lead in the NL West. They entered the contest with a 68-50 record having lost three of their last six, and hold just a two-game lead over the San Diego Padres in the division.

Turang's leadoff homer lifts Brewers over Pirates for 10th straight win
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brice Turang hit his first career leadoff home run, Jose Quintana allowed three hits over six solid innings and the MLB-best Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 7-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. Quintana (10-4) struck out three and walked one as the Brewers (74-44) improved to 25-4 over the last 29 games, including 13-1 in the last 14. The only real hiccup was Joey Bart's home run in the third. Turang sent a sinker from Pirates starter Andrew Heaney over the wall in left center. Christian Yelich opened the third with a solo home run, RBI singles from Sal Frelick and Brandon Lockridge and an unearned run on Bart's throwing error capped the third inning. Grant Anderson held the Pirates without a hit in the seventh and eighth. Shelby Miller pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Heaney (5-10) allowed six runs — five earned — on nine hits in four innings. Quintana and Freddy Peralta switched spots for the Pirates series. The move gives Peralta another day of rest but also lines him up for the Cubs series next week in Chicago. Chase Shugart, activated from the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation before the game, allowed one run on two hits over three innings. The Pirates optioned RHP Dauri Moreta to Triple-A Indianapolis. Key moment Yelich's 22nd home run of the season highlighted the Brewers' third. Key stat Quintana, 36, made his 351st start since his rookie season with the Chicago White Sox in 2012, fifth most on the active list.
