All-Stars Abbott, De La Cruz help Reds beat Marlins 7-2, halt Miami's 11-game road winning streak
Abbott (8-1) was named to the NL All-Star team on Tuesday, replacing Yoshinobu Yamamoto of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Against Miami, Abbott allowed one run on six hits and two walks while striking out five. The 26-year-old left-hander lost his shutout bid and left the game when Heriberto Hernández hit a two-out RBI single in the eighth. The Reds ended a four-game skid.
The Reds scored three runs in the first and fourth innings with De La Cruz hitting RBI doubles in each. Noelvi Marte hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, in the fourth. Will Benson added his eighth homer in the eighth.
Reds manager Terry Francona moved within three wins of his 2,000th career victory as a manager.
Miami's Sandy Alcantara (4-9) gave up nine hits and six runs over five innings. Connor Norby hit his sixth homer of the year off Emilio Pagán in the ninth.

At Pamplona's San Fermín festival, a tiny minority of women run with bulls
PAMPLONA, Spain (AP) — Dressed in the traditional bull runner's garb of a white shirt and red neck-scarf, Yomara Martínez, 30, sprinted in the death-defying morning run or 'encierros' taking place this week in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona. Yet despite being in a crowd of thousands, Martínez was among only a handful of women daredevils running with the stampeding bulls at the San Fermín Festival. 'At the end of the day, the bull doesn't know about sexes, age or body shape,' Martinez said. 'It doesn't matter if you are woman.' Every year, thousands of people line the medieval streets of Pamplona to witness the centuries-old tradition of running with bulls. Many watch from balconies and wooden barricades along the course. Millions more follow the spectacle on television. Women bull runners are rare, though Martínez and other women taking part in the adrenaline-fueled tradition as more than mere spectators say it's growing in popularity. 'There are times I feel small. And ask myself 'what am I doing here?' Because, although you may not want to, you do feel slightly inferior because of your physique,' said 32-year-old Sara Puñal, an administrator who took part in Sunday's run. 'But in the moment, you are all equal,' Puñal said of the run. The bulls pound along the twisting cobblestone streets after being led by six steers. Up to 4,000 runners take part in each bull run, which takes place over 846 meters (2,775 feet) and can last two to four minutes. The expert Spanish runners try to sprint just in front of the bull's horns for a few seconds while egging the animal on with a rolled newspaper. Gorings are not rare, but many more people are bruised and injured in falls and pileups with each other. 'I think many have a desire to see what it feels like but they don't try because of fear,' said Paula López, 32, a shop assistant who also took part in a run earlier in the week. López said she grew up in the masculine world of bull fighting. She wasn't fazed by how few women take part in the event. 'It's complicated, but it is pretty exciting,' López said. The event's reputation took a hit years ago following complaints by women about having suffered sexual harassment and abuse from revelers. In 2016, five men raped an 18-year-old woman during the festival in an infamous case that sparked an outcry across Spain. The men, who had a WhatsApp group named 'La Manada,' or 'The Animal Pack,' were imprisoned for 15 years by the Supreme Court in 2019. Women didn't participate in the bull runs until 1975 due to a decree repealed one year earlier that prohibited women, children and the elderly from being in the streets where the bulls run during the festival. The spectacle was made internationally famous by Ernest Hemingway's classic 1926 novel 'The Sun Also Rises,' about American bohemians wasting away in Europe. ——

Jannik Sinner faces Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon in a rematch of their epic French Open final
LONDON -- LONDON (AP) — Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are meeting to decide the Wimbledon championship just five weeks after they played each other in an epic French Open final. Sunday's matchup at Centre Court between the No. 1-ranked Sinner and No. 2 Alcaraz marks the first time the same two men faced off in the title matches on the clay at Roland-Garros and the grass at the All England Club in the same year since Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal did it in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Alcaraz, a 22-year-old from Spain, defeated Sinner, a 22-year-old from Italy, in five sets spread over 5 hours, 29 minutes in Paris on June 8, coming back from a two-set deficit and saving three match points along the way. That made Alcaraz 5-0 in Grand Slam finals, including victories in 2023 and 2024 at Wimbledon. He also carries a career-best 24-match winning streak into Sunday and has beaten Sinner five times in a row. Sinner owns three major trophies and will be playing in his fourth consecutive Slam final — but first at the All England Club. He won the U.S. Open last September and the Australian Open this January. Sinner has been wearing tape and an arm sleeve to protect his right elbow since falling in the opening game of his fourth-round win on Monday. After eliminating 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, Sinner said he doesn't think his elbow will be an issue on Sunday. Play is scheduled to begin Sunday at 4 p.m. local time, which is 11 a.m. ET. Sinner was listed Saturday as the slight money-line favorite at -110 by BetMGM Sportsbook, with Alcaraz at -105. ___

Meanwhile Heat's top draft pick Kasparas Jakucionis debuted with 24 points in a loss to Atlanta to open NBA Summer League play in Las Vegas. Heat's back on the summer wood tonight vs. Cleveland. 5. TENNIS: Iga Swiatek wins Wimbledon; Sinner-Alcaraz go today: No. 8-seed Iga Swiatek easily made Wimbledon her sixth career major win Saturday, beating 13th-ranked American Amanda Anisimova from Aventura (near Miami), 6-0, 6-0 -- the tourney's first finals shutout since 1911. Today/Sunday it's No. 1 Jannik Sinner vs. No. 2 Carlos Alvarez in a heavyweight men's final as the U.S. extends its drought of no men's Wimbledon winner since Pete Sampras in 2000 -- though fifth-seed Taylor Fritz gave it a run to the semis. Mark the names Billy Carlson, Eli Willits and JoJo Parker, all straight outta high school at that position. 7. WNBA: Unrivaled league returning to Miami ... but what about WNBA?: Unrivaled the offseason 3-on-3 league made up of WNBA stars, is planning for Year II and keeping Miami as its home base, though it will venture out at least a couple of times to bigger arenas in non-WNBA cities. Now when will the WNBA itself come back to South Florida? The league just announced it will grow to 18 teams by adding Cleveland in 2028, Detroit in '29 and Philadelphia in '30 after first expanding to Portland and Toronto. So where's Miami? The Miami Sol was an early WNBA team in 2000-02. It's past time for Miami 2.0. 8. COLLEGE FOOTBALL: What is wrong with Deion Sanders?: Even celebrities have a right to privacy, and Colorado coach Deion Sanders is exercising his by declining to reveal his current health issue that saw him missing much of the summer away from his team and appearing noticeably thinner at Big 12 media day. Sanders has dealt with persistent health issues with his left food and blood clots, including the amputation of two toes in 2021. In a recent podcast appearance he admitted his current situation is 'at a whole other level.' Sanders is easy to dislike with a persona bordering on arrogance, but we wish him well in whatever he is battling. 9. MEDIA: Panthers a 'Team of Year' finalist at ESPY Awards: ESPN's masterwork in self-promotion marks its 33rd annual ESPY Awards this Wednesday in L.A., with comedian Shane Gillis hosting. Slim pickin's for Miami-area finalists, with only the Florida Panthers for Team of the Year and Coco Gauff for Best Tennis Player repping South Florida among the 19 major categories open for public voting. I'd call both longshots, though a back-to-back Stanley Cup winner is obviously deserving. SoFla last had an ESPY Team of the Year when the Big 3-era Miami Heat won it in 2012 and again in '13. 10. DOLPHINS: Farewell Ndamukong Suh upon his official retirement: Suh was a pretty great NFL defensive tackle for five teams including the Miami Dolphins in 2015-17 in the heart of his career. He last played in 2022 but made his retirement official this week at age 38. Not saying he's a certain Hall of Famer like Aaron Donald, but Suh, with five Pro Bowls (including '16 as a Dolphin) and three times a first-team All-Pro, deserves strong consideration from Canton.
