UCLA's Alex Johnson could rise up the Colts' cornerback depth chart

UCLA's Alex Johnson could rise up the Colts' cornerback depth chart

USA Todaya day ago
Injuries are part of football. No one wants to see them. They are always and invariably terrible. Yet, the harsh reality of pro football is that injuries can and do open up roster spots in the NFL preseason. UCLA football alumnus Alex Johnson watched one of his position-group teammates get hurt in the Indianapolis Colts' preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. Colts Wire has more:
"Unfortunately, other injuries occurred during this game. Bernhard Raimann did not suit up due to a presumed undisclosed injury. Braden Smith (groin), Blake Freeland (leg), Tyler Goodson (elbow), Johnathan Edwards (concussion), and Hunter Wohler (foot) all left the game as well."
Before the game began, Colts Wire noted this about Alex Johnson and the Indianapolis cornerback room:
"With Justin Walley out for the season, along with JuJu Brents and Jaylon Jones missing most of training camp with hamstring injuries, the starting cornerback spot opposite of Charvarius Ward remains up for grabs. Samuel Womack may be the favorite as of now, given his experience, but also squarely in that mix are Alex Johnson and Johnathan Edwards. Johnson would have an impressive showing against Baltimore in the preseason opener, which included allowing no receptions on two targets while coming away with an interception and a pass breakup."
You can see that injuries have thinned out the Colts' secondary. More precisely, you can see that Johnathan Edwards, a direct competitor for a roster spot with Alex Johnson, got hurt versus the Packers. There is now more of an opportunity for the former UCLA Bruin to stick on the 53-man roster. There is only one preseason game left (next weekend), after which roster cuts will be made.

Should Bears fans be excited about Caleb Williams?

Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz and Caroline Fenton discuss the Bears quarterback's first on-field performance under new head coach Ben Johnson and what it means for expectations in Chicago this season. View more Video Transcript We saw Caleb 6 to 10, 130 in a touchdown, Ben Johnson's offense, the first time we saw him, it was good. It was fine, right? Like I, I want to have some big, huge glowing. It was fine. It was good. Like it was a good outing. And I think we also need to remember that even though the Chicago Bears kind of continued to be the butt of several jokes in the NFL and they were not a good football team last year, Caleb Williams was still good last year. We threw for 3500 yards as a rookie. And I think that stat is made even more impressive, given the fact that a Chicago Bears quarterback has never had a 4,000+ yard season in its history, which is just wild, and Caleb Williams was just 500 yards short of that clip in his first season with the franchise. And look, my takeaway from last night was Chicago Bears fans have every reason to be optimistic and excited about this Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson marriage, because what we saw last night was exciting. It was offensive fireworks. Now, he was going up against the Buffalo Bills' defensive backups. I think there was only one, maybe two starters between the Bills' starting 22 that was out in the field last night. So he's going up against backups. Keep that in mind. Add that to the grain of salt that we always add whenever we talk about preseason games. But 6 to 10, 107 touchdown, he did what he needed to do. If a player is absolute hot garbage and it just looks out of sync and out of whack and terrible, I think that's worth looking at and saying, oh, we have a little pause for concern. Outside of that, there's very little that moves me one way or the other for anybody in preseason because the concepts are so different and the offense is so different, and I get all of that. So I look at it. And say I want to be fair. If Caleb came out and was just awful in the game, we would be turning around saying, is there reason to for concern, especially given the amount of practice footage we've seen where Caleb Williams looked inaccurate, right? Like, I understand it's been a frustrating summer for Bears fans that want to see this explosive moment right out of the gates. It's just a process, and I know I say this too much, I constantly yell at everybody about it. I'll continue to yell on the show because I believe it so much. We are not in the NFL. It's not usually in Ozempic society. You got to do little things right every single day. You can't just suddenly take a pill and all of a sudden your team's better. I think this is going to be a bit of a process for Caleb. Here's what I expect throughout the course of the season. I expect some really good games and then some head-scratching games until it normalizes into what it's gonna be. And I still think it's easy to forget how much we thought of Caleb Williams coming out in the draft. Like there's a reason he was the number one overall pick, even above, gasp, Jayden Daniels. Like there are college football people draft. People, scouts that genuinely believe as hard as it is for us to remember that Caleb Williams has more ability than Jayden Daniels. I, I, I know Jayden took the world by storm, but again, systems matter. Like Jayden had a brilliant Cliff Kingsbury and, and an offense that was built to just sort of, uh, to, to week by week give him more responsibility and more opportunity. I hope Caleb gets that now. And I hope Caleb comes out and is better than Jayden Daniels through all of it because frankly, that's a great story for the city of Chicago that's never had that quarterback. Close

FuboTV Strengthens Premium Sports Lineup With NFL, UEFA, And Ligue 1 In Key Global Markets

FuboTV (NYSE:FUBO) deepened its sports-first strategy on Monday, announcing a multi-year content partnership with DAZN in Canada and a separate carriage deal in France through its Molotov subsidiary. The agreements expand Fubo's live sports lineup with marquee rights like the NFL, UEFA Champions League, and Ligue 1, strengthening its global positioning in premium sports streaming. FuboTV and DAZN announced on Monday that they signed a multi-year partnership to expand their collaboration in agreement builds on their recent U.S. distribution deal and aims to deliver one of the most comprehensive sports lineups available to Canadian fans. Under the deal, DAZN will add Fubo Sports Network to its Canadian platform. At the same time, Fubo will stream DAZN's premium live sports, including exclusive rights to the NFL, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, English Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, top boxing events, and more. Through the partnership, Molotov customers can stream eight of the nine Ligue 1 McDonald's matches live each gameday, with the ninth available on delay, alongside exclusive programming such as shows, replays, documentaries, and club-focused content. The deal supports Molotov's strategy to integrate premium sports into its broad entertainment ecosystem. As the only platform in France to offer both a comprehensive library of national television channels and Ligue 1, McDonald's, and Molotov now pairs elite soccer with global competitions like the FIFA World Cup 2026 and Coupe de France through its carriage of TF1, M6, France TV, and more. Globally, revenue rose 4.7% to $8.7 million, with subscribers down 12.5% to 349,000. The company filed a proxy seeking approval to merge with Disney's Hulu + Live TV. Fubo plans to launch Fubo Sports and a Pay-Per-View option soon, while continuing to enhance its platform with features like Catch Up to Live and Game Highlights. Is it time for Trey Hendrickson, Bengals to part ways?

Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz and Caroline Fenton discuss if Cincinnati's reported decision to listen to trade offers for the pass rusher is a sign that the franchise needs to say goodbye to the 31-year-old. View more Video Transcript As we learned over the weekend, the Bengals are reportedly listening to trade offers for Trey Hendrickson, so I will ask you, my friend. Should they? Should the Bengals trade Trey Hendrickson? Uh, let me be clear here. I don't think the Bengals will trade Trey Hendrickson. I do believe the Bengals should trade Trey Hendrickson. And I know this is a hot take. I've seen everybody across social media saying, don't do it, don't do it, don't do it. My thing is, look, Trey Hendrickson led the league in sacks last year. Only one other time in history has the player, the player that led the league in sacks been traded the following year, and that was Jared Allen. Only one other time, right? So I get that it's absolutely controversial to trade the league's leader in sacks. But that defense sucked last year. Like, congratulations. You had the league leader in sacks and your defense was trash. It was hot garbage. Your defense was so bad that you got nowhere near the playoffs because of it, right? Like that team, you've got, and this is what everybody keeps saying. You got Joe Burrow, you've got a Hall of Fame caliber quarterback. You need to fix the defense. Correct? They should have done that all offseason, but they didn't. So now we're sitting here and it's like, OK. What are you gonna pay Trey Hendrickson for? If Trey Hendrickson is on this team, they will have a bottom 5 defense in the NFL. If Trey Hendrickson is not on this team, they will have a bottom 5 defense in the NFL. The fact that we're having trade conversations show that maybe the Bengals aren't as smart as I thought they were, because this is not an August conversation. Trey Hendrickson trade is a March conversation. It's. A pre-draft conversation, because I don't believe there is a one-for-one trade out there that exists for Trey Hendrickson right now. There's no team in the National Football League that would be willing to part ways with what would be a player that would be an equal value of Trey Hendrickson. If the Bengals didn't want to pay him, then they should have realized that in March and. Gotten picks that they could have used for the 2025. Draft. If they trade Trey Hendrickson right now, what good are 2026 picks to the 2025 Cincinnati Bengals? So if all they're trying to do is just to save a couple of dollars and cents here and there, they'll get a couple of picks and they'll rebuild for 26, 27, well then you're just wasting precious years of Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and T. Higgins' prime. So none of this stuff makes sense to me, Fitz. Close
