Erie students receive lesson in ethics at annual symposium
Students were challenged to apply their critical thinking skills to difficult decisions Tuesday.
The Rotary Club of Erie held their 14th annual Ethics Symposium at Mercyhurst University.
SeaWolves unveil back-to-back championship rings
Over 200 high school juniors, along with teachers, from all over the region learned about ethical decision-making.
Students were able to absorb the Four Way Test which is a Rotary guide to why morality matters.

'These youngsters are getting ready to kind of head off soon. next year they'll be seniors, they'll be choosing colleges, professions, they'll be launching their adult life and that adult life involves a lot of decisions that they will have to make and we want to just give them a framework for that,' said Dr. Karen Staab, president of the Erie Rotary Club and co-chair of the symposium.
Teachers were able to earn Act 48 credits with talks from the district attorney and her detective.

Rookie skaters attend roller derby practice at Gem City Skate
Local athletes put on the skates Sunday morning for a unique sports experience. Rookie skaters were invited to Gem City Skate Sunday for the Erie Roller Derby's 'Fresh Meat Mixer,' a casual scrimmage for new skaters to test their skills. SeaWolves clinch series victory with shutout of Fightin' Phils Two teams skated and checked each other around the rink to try and take home the win. The skate rink's co-owner said this is the roller derby league's first major event at their rink, and they're happy to share the space. 'They're a great group to work with, they help out a lot, so it's just nice that we can give them somewhere they can call home,' said Mikhayla Dugan, co-owner of Gem City Skate. Local umpire Brian Fuller to work NCAA Division III College World Series in FNL part II 'It's very intense, honestly. I'm still a little confused about it, but like watching them going around, it's like five points each, I guess,' said spectator Yolanda Harris. Erie Rotary Club unveils new peace pole at Griswold Park
A project that the Rotary Club of Erie has worked on for years was unveiled Wednesday afternoon. The organization dedicated a peace pole at Griswold Park. The monument signifies peace and unity among people of all cultures, ethnicities and backgrounds. Erie families plant their own veggies at new community garden Erie's peace pole displays 'May peace prevail on Earth' in nine languages. 'They are around the world. If you go to visit other cities, you'll see them there but we really felt like we needed one here in downtown erie to represent so many different cultures that live here,' said Dr. Karen Stab, president of the Rotary Club of Erie. Over a dozen women honored at Women Making History event
Over a dozen women were honored Monday night for their exceptional contributions to the Erie area. The Mercy Center for Women hosted its 2025 Women Making History event at Mercyhurst University's Performing Arts Center. The 14 women were chosen for their dedicated service in the community, moral values and commitment to women's issues.
