Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Breaks Silence On Thomas Partey Case: 'The Club Was...'
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta firmly asserted that the club followed the proper procedure in handling the case of former midfielder Thomas Partey, who was recently charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police Service, shortly after his contract with the club ended.
The alleged incidents occurred between 2021 and 2022. Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5. The investigation began in 2022. Partey faces two counts of rape concerning one woman, three counts involving a second woman, and one count of sexual assault relating to a third woman.
'The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives. The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, one count of sexual assault," read the statement by the Metropolitan Police.
Arsenal are currently in Singapore for their pre-season tour and will face AC Milan on Wednesday. During a press conference, Arteta was asked about the Ghanaian midfielder.
'The club was very clear in its statement. There are a lot of legal matters that are very complicated, so I cannot comment on any of that," said Arteta.
Partey signed for Atletico Madrid in 2012, making 188 appearances for the Spanish club, helping them win the Europa League in 2018 and La Liga in 2021. Arsenal signed him from Atletico Madrid on the transfer deadline day in October 2020 after meeting his £45 million release clause.
The midfielder went on to play 167 games for Arsenal, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists. He has 53 caps for the Ghana national team, scoring 15 goals for the African nation.

Departing Son Heung-Min In Tears As Tottenham Draw With Newcastle In Seoul
A day after announcing his imminent departure from Tottenham after 10 years with the club, Son Heung-min was given an emotional farewell Sunday by his teammates, Newcastle players and almost 65,000 fans at Seoul World Cup Stadium. The pre-season friendly in South Korea between the Premier League teams ended 1-1, with the high point being Son's second-half exit in likely his last game for Tottenham. The 33-year-old captain was surrounded by both sets of players before eventually sitting on the bench in tears. 'First we had the walk around and then the teammates gathered around and he was emotional,' Tottenham coach Thomas Frank said. 'In the changing room it was more of the same. I just said a few things but not much because it's about Sonny and then he said a few things. It was beautiful.' Newcastle manager Eddie Howe also paid tribute to the South Korea forward. 'The reaction was instinctive from my players. I think that speaks volumes about him,' Howe said. 'I think he's seen as one of the game's great Premier League players. It's not just the talent he has but the way he has carried himself over the years.' Son, who has been linked with a move to Los Angeles FC, scored 173 goals in 454 games for the London club but was unable to find the target in what Frank said is likely to be his last appearance. His trademark 'camera' goal celebration was, however, borrowed by Brennan Johnson who put Tottenham ahead after four minutes with a low shot from the edge of the area. Harvey Barnes leveled for Newcastle seven minutes before the break, cutting in from the left to fire powerfully home. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Tottenham's James Maddison was stretchered off after going down injured. 'We're pretty sure it was the same knee he injured before,' Frank said. The midfielder is likely to miss the UEFA Super Cup between Europa League winner Tottenham against Champions League victor Paris Saint-Germain on Aug. 13. The Premier League season starts two days later.

Stunts turn fatal: Pilot, son die in plane crash near Puerto Soller, Spain; investigation underway
Representative image A pilot and his 13-year-old son were found dead after their two-seater biplane crashed into the sea off the coast of Mallorca, Spanish police confirmed Sunday. The Team Rocket F-4 Raider aircraft went down in the Puerto Soller area on Saturday night. According to Spanish media as cited by Reuters, the plane appeared to be performing aerial stunts before it plunged into the water around 8.20 pm. Emergency services launched an immediate search, but the victims could not be located during the initial operation. The search resumed at first light on Sunday, with specialist divers deployed to the area. "At approximately 1 pm.(1100 GMT) specialist divers from the Civil Guard recovered the lifeless bodies of the pilot and his son who accompanied him in a sea which reaches a depth of 30 metres and they have been transferred to the Puerto of Soller," the Spanish Civil Guard said in a statement.
