Michigan State football picks up transfer commitment from Hope College edge rusher
Michigan State football continued their mission to shore up their pass rush via the transfer portal, landing a commitment from Hope College transfer Jack Lamancusa on Thursday night. Lamancusa will join the program as a walk-on.
As a freshman with the Flying Dutchman, Lamancusa was extremely productive, racking up 43 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and three pass break-ups. He was first-team all-conference as a freshman before entering the portal. At 6-foot-2, 250-pounds, Lamancusa should have the frame to make the jump from Division III up to Division I.
The news comes just over 24 hours after the Spartans landed a commitment from Texas Tech defensive end transfer Isaac Smith.
It's no secret that MSU is searching for answers at defensive end, as the Spartans were only able to generate 19 sacks last year, with a good percentage of those coming from the blitz instead of pressure on the ends. For context, MSU's leading pass rusher, Khris Bogle, only had four sacks last year. Their second sack leader was Jordan Turner, an inside linebacker, who had three.

Jeffery Simmons bristles at the attention given to his fight with Cam Ward
On Monday, Titans quarterback Cam Ward and Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons got into a scuffle during practice. After it happened, Simmons took to Twitter to blame reporters for 'blow[ing] something up that happened at practice.' On Tuesday, Simmons addressed reporters for the first time since it happened. 'Hands off the quarterback,' Simmons said. 'Everybody on this team know. Everybody in the locker room know. I love the hell out of my guys. Shit happened at practice. You know, people on the outside, you guys, y'all blowing [are] it up. Shouldn't get blowed up. 'At training camp, tempers flare. Move on and end that day. You know, can't touch the quarterback. They're the same thing. If we at joint practice and somebody touch our quarterback, trust me, I'm gonna be the first one in there. So I respect the hell out of our offense for having their quarterback back — having our quarterback back. 'But at the end of the day, you know, it's football. We, you know — offensive line, defensive line, trenches. It's hot. Tempers flare. We all are tied. At the end of the day, we family. We moved on from it. We're not gonna keep talking about it each and every day. It happened yesterday, we came back to work as a team. Yesterday, we left it on the field. Came back, got the corrections, moved on. So I'm done talking about it. That's it. Any football questions, you know, that's that.' One of the reporters followed immediately with this: 'So hands off the quarterback. You put your hands on the quarterback. And it's our fault?' Said Simmons, 'Anybody got a football question?' 'That's a football question,' the reporter said. At the end of the day, it's a good sign for the Titans. Ward is intense. He'll back down to no one. Sure, he did his 'Zombieland' celebration, which reportedly prompted Simmons to give Ward a two-handed shove to the facemask. They then had to be separated. Simmons's preference to not talk about it is understandable. He was in the wrong. He knows it. Hands off the quarterback. Simmons also knows that Ward is the present and the future of the team. The guy who could lead the Titans out of the haze of irrelevance. Quarterbacks need skill, and they need swagger. Ward seems to have both. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the rest of the league gets a taste of it in games that count.

John Wall retires: NBA fans celebrated the 5-time All-Star's career
Though John Wall did not appear in an NBA game last season, he expressed hope in February of continuing his basketball career. On Tuesday, though, the five-time All-Star put an end to those hopes. Wall — the Wizards' former No. 1 overall pick in 2010 — announced his retirement after 11 NBA seasons. The electrifying point guard from Kentucky entered the league with enormous hype. And despite battling injuries for the final six seasons of his career, he solidified himself among the Wizards' franchise greats. He'll finish his career as the Wizards' all-time assists and steals leader — along with ranking fourth in the franchise's points leaderboard. He made the announcement in a video on Twitter/X. After Wall's retirement news was announced, NBA fans joined in to celebrate Wall's prolific career. This was how Twitter/X reacted

Hugh Freeze suggests multiple QBs could see time Auburn's season-opener at Baylor
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze caught the attention of Auburn fans during Monday's airing of the long-running radio show "Tiger Talk" with host Andy Burcham. During the show, Freeze was asked if there was a possibility that all three quarterbacks on Auburn's depth chart: Jackson Arnold, Deuce Knight, and Ashton Daniels, could play in the Tigers' season-opener against Baylor next Friday night. To which he responded, "Yeah." Whether he truly means that or if he is using it as a tool to confuse Baylor's game plan, it was enough to cause a negative reaction from the Auburn fan base, due mostly to past games such as the 2016 season-opener against Clemson, in which Sean White, Jeremy Johnson, and John Franklin III ran the offense from the quarterback position. To shed more light on the situation, we will rewind to earlier in the day when Freeze spoke to the media one final time in the preseason. During his time with the media, he shared that he is "pleased" with both Knight and Daniels in the backup role, and feels that "there is a place for both, depending on the scenario in the game." He also says that it has been difficult to fully evaluate Arnold and the rest of his quarterbacks due to the "no contact" policy at practices. "Our offensive staff is frustrated when you're in a scrimmage and you don't feel like you're getting maybe the yards that you would've gotten because the whistle is just getting blown," Freeze said Monday. "Somebody gets near (Arnold) in the pocket and it gets blown. Then you watch the film and you're like, 'I'm pretty confident he got out of this one.' I don't know what would've happened afterwards. I would've loved to have seen. I don't know how you do that until it's real. We've seen enough tape to know he has that ability. You see it out there. We called a few today and are still blowing it pretty quick. I have to see the film, but it looked like you're clicking off five, six, seven yards there. Not just him, Ashton (Daniels) and Deuce (Knight) also." Freeze and the Tigers have just over a week to figure out the pecking order and strategy for quarterbacks before taking the field for the season opener.
