'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' Will Return To Night City As A Standalone Sequel

Geek Culture07-07-2025
David's story may have come to an end, but the world of Night City lives on. After teasing a potential animated series last year, Netflix and CD Projekt Red have announced Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 , a standalone sequel to the 2022 darling.
Announced at Anime Expo 2025, the forthcoming spin-off will feature 'an entirely new story, fresh characters, and a raw, realistic take on the most dangerous city of the dark future.' The video game developer is reuniting with Studio Trigger for the project, with Kai Ikarashi ( SSSS.Gridman ) and Kanno Ichigo ( Promare ) serving as director and lead character designer, respectively. Hugo Award winner Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka, who worked on the original, are back onboard.
'Night City has a lot of stories to tell. I have a dream that it won't end with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners . There's more stories, more characters. I wasn't satisfied with the sadness I received from the audience, so I want you to be even more sad now,' Sztybor said, adding that the 10-episode season is set to be 'of course, sadder, but it will be also darker, more bloody, and more raw.'
'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 presents a new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077— a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge,' reads a summary of the follow-up instalment. 'In a city that thrives in the spotlight of violence, one question remains: when the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?'
No release date has been announced for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 , but here's a first look at its official logo and poster art:
Night City is due to return on the gaming front as well, though not anytime soon. Cyberpunk 2 , the sequel to 2020's Cyberpunk 2077 , has entered the pre-production phase of development, placing the game's release date somewhere between late 2030 and early 2031.

Indian Star Vidyut Jammwal & Japanese Wrestler Hirooki Goto Join ‘Street Fighter' Film As Dhalsim & E. Honda

Legendary's live-action Street Fighter movie continues to build its roster, tapping Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal and Japanese Professional Wrestler Hirooki Goto as limb-stretching yogi Dhalsim and sumo wrestler E. Honda, respectively. Vidyut Jammwal (Source: Dealine, Action Hero Films) Although the film's plot remains firmly under wraps, the project marks the Hollywood debut for both Jammwal and Goto, with the former branching out from his repertoire of Hindi films like 2013's Commando and its two sequels, and 2024's Crakk , with the 44-year-old actor being deliberate about which project to take on in order to introduce himself in the U.S. market, according to Deadline's sources, His character, Dhalsim, is a mystical yogi and a pacifist in the games, who goes against his beliefs by entering the World Warrior tournament to raise money for his poor village. Making his first appearance back in 1991's Street Fighter II: The World Warrior , Dhalsim is known for his stretchy limbs, able to extend his arms, legs, abdomen and neck to attack at range, earning him the alias 'long-arm'. The character also wields many fire-based attacks to supplement his basic moves, making him a formidable long-range fighter. Hirooki Goto (Source: Wrestling Observer) On the other hand, Japanese wrestler Goto is slated to play E. Honda in the movie, as reported by Sean Ross Sapp. The 46-year-old is a familiar face in the New Japan Pro-Wrestling scene, beginning his wrestling career back in 2003 and has clinched over 10 championships over the years, including being a former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. His casting marks yet another real-world wrestler to appear in the movie, joining the ranks of WWE stars Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns as Guile and Akuma, respectively. Edmond Honda, better known as E. Honda, is another staple in the Street Fighter game franchise, making his first appearance in 1991's Street Fighter II . Honda is a professional sumo wrestler and sentō (Japanese bathhouse) proprietor, who enters the martial arts tournament to prove that sumo wrestlers are among the greatest fighters in the world. In combat, Honda is known for his offensive charge attacks, including his iconic Hundred Hand Slap, where he attacks with a rapid flow of palm strikes. Jammwal and Goto join an already stacked cast of characters in the Street Fighter movie, which to date still hasn't received a firm release window, including Andrew Koji's ( Bullet Train ) Ryu, Jason Momoa's ( Aquaman ) Blanka, Noah Centineo's ( Warfare ) Ken, Callina Liang's ( Tell me Everything ) Chun-Li, rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson's Balrog, and David Dastmalchian's ( Late Night with the Devil ) M. World's First Official 'Dragon Ball' Store Goes Over 9,000 In Tokyo This Fall

Kamehameha! It's a wonder how Dragon Ball, one of the most beloved names in pop culture, hasn't gotten an official store after all this time, but things will soon change. In celebration of the franchise's 40th anniversary, Shueisha and Toei Animation have announced the opening of the first Dragon Ball store in the world later this year. In celebration of the DRAGON BALL 40th AnniversaryAnnouncing the world's first "DRAGON BALL STORE"! To open in Tokyo, fall of 2025https:// #DragonBall40th #dragonball #ドラゴンボール — DRAGON BALL OFFICIAL (@DB_official_en) July 13, 2025 The aptly-titled Dragon Ball Store is scheduled to launch in Tokyo, Japan, in the fall of 2025, featuring 'must-buy' items for fans that include limited-edition goods available nowhere else. Other information, such as the merchandise lineup and its exact location, will be unveiled 'shortly'. The well-loved franchise joins JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in welcoming a world's first store, with the latter coming to the sixth floor of Shibuya PARCO in Tokyo later this month. Created by the late Akira Toriyama, the Dragon Ball manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1992 across 42 volumes. The first half was adapted into a 153-episode anime in 1986, while Dragon Ball Z continued the story from 1989 to 1996. The series is considered to be the most iconic part of the franchise, bringing memorable arcs focusing on Saiyan, Frieza, Majin Buu, and more to life. To date, it has sold over 160 million copies in Japan and 260 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series to date. Prior to Toriyama's unfortunate passing, the industry legend was reported to be working on the Dragon Ball Super manga, which went on a semi-hiatus, and the Dragon Ball: Daima anime that aired last October. 'Resident Evil Survival Unit' Mobile Game Combines Puzzles & Real-Time Defence Battles, Stars Fan-Favourite Characters

Aniplex's upcoming strategy mobile game spin-off, Resident Evil Survival Unit , has received an official first look, detailing its gameplay mix of both puzzle-solving and real-time defence battle combat, alongside the appearance of multiple characters from the franchise. As described via a lengthy showcase video, the game is set to be 'the world's first full Resident Evil for mobile' and will be made in partnership with Capcom and South Korean mobile game developer JoyCity. The game's executive producer Shinji Hashimoto, producer Kye Dongkyun, Resident Evil franchise producer Masachika Kawata, and guest creature designer Yoshitaka Amano shared more on the upcoming title, including its inspiration, design and gameplay elements. In a brief snippet of gameplay shown off in the video's 12-minute mark, Resident Evil Survival Unit looks to be a combination of mobile gaming tropes, offering a mix of base management, puzzle solving, alongside real-time defence battles akin to the Adobe Flash video game franchise, The Last Stand . In terms of progression, the protagonist will recruit a team of well-known Resident Evil faces such as Leon S Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield, and Barry Burton to fight back against the zombie threat, upgrading them with resources bought from the iconic Merchant character to tackle tougher foes. Although it wasn't explicitly specified in the video, the game's mobile format will no doubt indicate the presence of dreaded microtransactions and paywalls, so it remains to be seen how badly progression will be hindered for those not spending additional real-world currency on the title. Story-wise, the game is set to occur in a parallel universe, and according to the team, will not be canon to the wider Resident Evil series, so fans shouldn't expect any links to Capcom's more anticipated upcoming title, Resident Evil Requiem , which is set to release on 27 February 2026. With such a massive upcoming title like Resident Evil Requiem on the horizon, Resident Evil Survival Unit has its work cut out for it, especially being a mobile game, to prevent it from flying under the radar. Whether it can offer up enough fresh ideas to make it stand out from the oversaturated mobile gaming crowd still remains to be seen, as it approaches its launch later this year for iPhone and Android devices.
