Saiyaara Actor Varun Badola Takes Dig At Film's PR Team: 'They Went Overboard With IV Drips'

News182 days ago
Saiyaara star Varun Badola reacts to viral theatre frenzy, saying PR team went overboard with IV drip stunts and bangles-breaking antics. Calls success real.
Ahaan Panday's debut film Saiyaara may be breaking box office records, but not everyone is on board with how the film has been promoted. Veteran actor Varun Badola, who played Ahaan's father in the romantic drama, has taken a subtle yet scathing dig at the film's PR machinery.
The Mohit Suri directorial, also starring Aneet Padda, has now crossed the Rs 500 crore mark globally, with over Rs 300 crore earned in India alone. While its box office run has been historic, Saiyaara also went viral for dramatic audience reactions — fans fainting, crying uncontrollably, tearing their shirts, and even showing up to theatres hooked to IV drips.
While producer Akshaye Widhani and director Suri have maintained that the reactions were organic and not planted, Varun Badola offered a more grounded take in an interview with Screen. 'When we were working on the film, we hadn't thought it would get so big… But on the third day of the release, when the film blew up at the box office, we realized it had gone big. I still haven't watched Saiyaara," he revealed.
Commenting on the viral videos, Badola didn't hold back: 'By the third or fourth day, the film was being talked about. I saw the euphoria on Instagram. Log jo chudiyaan tod rahe hai, chaatiyaan peet rahe hai (People were breaking bangles and beating their chests). I think the promotions team went a little overboard… putting IV drips. Those people must have been told to give content. Thank god, people didn't get their legs broken and go crawling to see the film."
Despite his candid remarks, Badola acknowledged the film's real impact. 'It's okay. We understand promoting the film, but it's good only up to a certain level. However, the film cannot earn so much money just based on Instagram promotions. People have gone and seen the film, and they have loved it," he concluded.
With Saiyaara continuing its golden run, Ahaan Panday has officially arrived in Bollywood.

Not Rupali Ganguly or Dilip Joshi, Smriti Irani is TV's highest-paid actor with Rs 14 lakh per episode for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2

Smriti Irani is back to acting with the second season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The actress was reported to be charging a hefty payment of Rs 14 lakh per episode, becoming the highest-paid TV actor in India. Reacting to the reports, Smriti Irani herself has confirmed such remuneration. Smriti Irani confirms becoming highest paid actor on small screen In a latest chat with CNN News18, Smriti Irani admitted that she is getting the record-breaking-paycheck while highlighting how she earned it with a lot of hard work and delivering on TRP numbers. The actress said, 'You also set that benchmark as a professional to say that if you deliver on history on numbers and revenue, why not? Because not everybody who's watching us knows we get to negotiate our contracts as employees.' Smriti Irani proudly said that not only pay-parity, she has beaten the boys and girls. 'I'm a part of a union, so the first thing I do is actually have my union number registered. We all are part of a larger organisation and flow of work. For one person to stand up and say "listen, not only pay parity, I beat the boys and the girls and how much I make that is a lot of hard work," she added. Smriti Irani, who is playing the lead role of Tulsi Virani in Kyonki, further underlined that she is capable of making stars out of others who are working with her. She said, 'The idea is, are you truly the star or do you have the professional capacity to make stars around you? I think that I have actually, mercifully, had the capacity of making stars out of others who are with me. If there is a Tulsi, then Amar Upadhyay quintessentially creates his own market. So do you become that pivot, that sounding board, that other actors then can enhance their economic value? That I have managed to do through the project, so my co-stars today can say, 'Oh, we are a part of that.'' Smriti Irani beats contemporaries Rupaly Ganguly, Dilip Joshi and Hina Khan For the unversed, Smriti Irani has surpassed Rupali Ganguly, Dilip Joshi, and Hina Khan's remunerations to emerge as the highest paid actor on the small screen. While Ganguly charges around Rs 3 lakh per episode for Anupama, Dilip Joshi and Hina Khan charge around Rs 1.5-2 lakh per episode. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

Virat Kohli resumes practice, shows first signs of returning to Indian cricket moments after white beard pic sparks fear

Virat Kohli is going nowhere. At least that's what it looks like. The Indian batting superstar, away from the limelight, just shared his first glimpse of returning to international cricket, sending a wave of happiness among his fans. Earlier in the day, a picture of him surfaced online, with plenty of grey hair, leaving fans worried. The Kohli faithful felt the end was near and feared the worst – a possible retirement from the ODIs, going by the amount of grey in his beard. However, Kohli, through a simple social media activity, confirmed that he is not done, and if anything, he is set for a return to Indian cricket sooner rather than later. Virat Kohli had his first hit in a while(Virat Kohli-Instagram) Kohli shared a picture with Gujarat Titans assistant coach Naeem Amin, in which both posed in what appeared to be an indoor cricket training facility. The backdrop suggests that Kohli, who hasn't played cricket since the conclusion of the IPL 2025, could have resumed practice ahead of his return, currently slated for October. "Thanks for helping out with the hit, brother. Always lovely to see you," Kohli captioned his Instagram story. What confirmed Kohli's training was that Amin was holding one of Kohli's classic MRF logoed bats in his hand. Kohli has flown under the radar and remained low-key since the IPL, making just two public appearances – going to attend Wimbledon and then gracing a 'YouWeCan' event hosted in London by Yuvraj Singh. He has, otherwise, been away from the public eye, and barring a couple of posts on X on the Indian team's performances in Birmingham and the Oval, Kohli has been, well, to put it simply, in hibernation. Who is Naeem Amin? Amin has been with the Titans since the franchise's beginning in 2022 and is the head of the Mighty Willow Academy. The academy is based in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and London, and is open to cricketers of all ages and abilities. Besides, Amin also played for Surrey CCC (2008) & Buckinghamshire CCC (2007), before serving as the national coach of Norway in 2011. He also served as the head coach of the MCC Foundation from 2013-2017, and before coming aboard the GT setup, Amis was also a coaching Assistant for Sunrisers Hyderabad from early 2018.
