It's not every day that you hear nasi lemak and pork berampah go hand-in-hand, but Together Nasi Lemak pairs these 2 mismatched ingredients up on a single plate. Their website proudly proclaims they're voted as the best pork berampah nasi lemak in Malaysia! Since I was in Kuala Lumpur for work, I wasn't about to miss out the opportunity to test that claim.
Together Nasi Lemak has 6 outlets around Malaysia centered around KL, Selangor and Seramban. Since the evening peak hour traffic was quite bad, I decided to swing by Four Season Food Avenue in Cheras that stays open till 1am daily. Imagine the tragedy if I had visited another branch and they were sold out — I would be hangry!
The whole place was huge, spanning an indoor food court and an outdoor hawker centre-ish section. It instantly reminded me of Chomp Chomp Food Centre back in Singapore. There was a Hong Kong movie playing on a projector, but the crowd was far too busy eating and chit-chatting to care.
I spotted the stall decked out in a bright green and yellow colour palette, complete with a bamboo pole decor that gave it a rustic look.
What I tried at Together Nasi Lemak
I'd be dumb to take a 40-minute car ride to this place and not order the Pork Set (RM16.90). We wanted to make our plates more luxurious by adding (+RM2) and (+RM2). However, both were not available — talk about a mood killer! Instead of the usual omelette or boiled egg, the plate of coconut rice was crowned with a beautiful sunny side-up. Its companions lying around included a generous scoop of sambal, the quintessential ikan bilis-peanut duo, some crackers, and sliced Japanese cucumber.
13 fun things to do at Eco Palladium, JB — food, fashion, aesthetic cafes & more [Aug 2025 update]
I made a beeline for the rice without adding any sambal. It wasn't the basmati grain variety but the good ol' classic jasmine rice. From the first spoonful, I was sold. Fragrant with a full-on coconutty punch, it somehow managed to be rich without tipping into jelak territory.
The sambal was full of umami with dominant notes of dried shrimp. Thankfully, it wasn't as saccharine as other nasi lemak places that probably add a truckload of sugar into the chilli. With that combo, I was instantly rocketed to flavour haven — passport not required.
Now, for the main star of the show, the fried pork. Each piece was tender and impeccably seasoned. The fat portion wasn't chewy and simply disintegrated like melted butter with every bite. When eaten with the crumbs, the overall experience was taken up several notches, kissed with just the right hint of herbs and fried curry leaves.
We also gave the XL Set (RM14.90) a try, which was also served with nasi lemak. Though each piece of chicken was well-battered and crispy, it felt like any other run-of-the-mill chicken cutlet that was enhanced with spices. It paled in comparison with the pork berampah.
Final thoughts
If you're looking for a nasi lemak place that doesn't follow conventional practises, then visit any of Together Nasi Lemak's outlets for a taste of their pork berampah — it really lives up to its reputation!
Expected damage: RM5.90 – RM16.90 per pax

Michelle Yeoh says ‘hell yes' to English dub of ‘Ne Zha 2' (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Michelle Yeoh is lending her voice to the English-language version of Ne Zha 2, the Chinese animated smash that raked in over US$2.2 billion (RM9.3 billion) to become the biggest animated film ever. Channel NewsAsia reported that after watching it in Hong Kong, and also while being fluent in Mandarin, Yeoh found the subtitles hard to follow amid the dazzling visuals — and knew that kids wouldn't stand a chance without a dub. Soon enough, studio A24 and CMC Pictures invited her to voice Ne Zha's mother, Lady Yin — and Yeoh's response was a resounding, 'Hell yes.' The English dub opens in over 2,500 North American theatres on August 22. The film follows the young demon-reincarnate Ne Zha, striving to rewrite his destiny by saving his village and friends. This screen grab shows a scene from the movie featuring Lady Yin, voiced by Michelle Yeoh, and her son, the young demon-reincarnate Ne Zha. — Screengrab from YouTube/A24 The sequel is accessible even if you haven't seen the first one, as it provides all the necessary backstory. Crafted over five years by 4,000 creators across 138 studios, the epic 143-minute spectacle weaves together 2,400 animation shots and 1,900 visual effects scenes. Yeoh praised the artistry, saying the team 'pushed all the boundaries…created this magical world…intricacies are mind-blowing.' The Oscar winner also helped fine-tune the English translation, maintaining a poetic nuance while keeping it contemporary and accessible. After earning over US$20 million in North America with subtitles earlier this year, Yeoh hopes the dub will help Ne Zha 2 resonate even more widely. 'It's the universal language of family... of the underdog,' she said. 'It immerses you into our culture…a beautiful way to cross that bridge.'

Daiyan Trisha laughs off "fourth wife" rumour

20Aug - Daiyan Trisha couldn't help but laugh after her name was mentioned in a rumour about an artiste becoming the fourth wife of an individual with a Datuk status. The actress recently took to Instagram Story to address the issue, saying that a reporter just called to ask her about the rumour, after many speculated that she was the actress in a recent aforementioned blind item. "I can only laugh. [They said] I have a sugar daddy, or that I am a fourth wife, that I have a sponsor, anything to dismiss my own hard work all of these years," she expressed. However, Daiyan said that she is no longer bothered by such allegations anymore and will just take it in stride. A blind item recently alleged that a popular actress has married a wealthy individual, though the actual date is not known. The rumour added that the two have dated for a while before tying the knot.
