Modi is in the Maldives on a two-day visit. His discussions with Latheef touched upon key pillars of the India-Maldives ties, including cooperation in infrastructure, technology and energy.
"Our nations continue to work closely in sectors like infrastructure, technology, climate change, energy and more. This is greatly beneficial to our people. We look forward to deepening this partnership in the years to come," Modi posted on X.
The Prime Minister conveyed wishes on the 60th anniversary of Independence Day of the Maldives. He also graced the celebrations as the guest of honour. "Both sides exchanged views on the deep-rooted & special relationship.
V-P Latheef thanked PM for India's continued assistance to Maldives in times of need," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a social media post. Latheef said it was an honour to call on the Indian prime minister. "As this year marks 60 years of formal diplomatic relations with India, the Prime Minister and I reflected on the journey of friendship and reciprocal support our countries have taken. I hope that the strong cooperation with India continues to grow and strengthen," Latheef said.
Modi also met Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People's Majlis (the Maldivian Parliament). "Talked about the deep-rooted India-Maldives friendship, including the close relationship between our respective Parliaments," Modi said. Sanjay Singh: ‘Support INDIA bloc only on SIR as it is a bid to kill democracy in India'

While the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has walked out of the INDIA bloc, the party's national general secretary and MP Sandeep Pathak participated in the Opposition alliance's joint press conference in Delhi Wednesday to sharpen their demand for a discussion in Parliament on the Election Commission (EC)'s ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh spoke to The Indian Express on the party's position on the SIR exercise and its ties with the INDIA bloc, among other issues. Excerpts: Sanjay Singh: We have clarified repeatedly that the AAP is not a part of the INDIA bloc and our position remains the same. We only offered support to the Opposition over the SIR, which is an attempt to kill democracy in India. Sanjay Singh: Only time will tell. If there are similar issues of national importance which emerge in the future, we will take a call at the time over extending support to the Opposition. Sanjay Singh: The SIR is a matter of grave importance. More than 65 lakh voters have been deleted from Bihar's electoral rolls… It is an attempt to stifle the democratic set-up of the country. Why should the Opposition step back from its duty of calling for a discussion on it? Sanjay Singh: We will take it to the people. There is no other way. We will tell the people how their votes are being robbed by a particular party and make them aware of the BJP's intent as well as the consequences of lakhs of voters being disenfranchised. Sanjay Singh: The SIR will certainly be a core issue around which the party's Bihar campaign will revolve just like how we have made quality of education a part of our campaign in Uttar Pradesh. Both the campaigns are on the right track and are doing well.

Trump was asked about why US singled out India over Russia ties. THIS is what he said

US President Donald Trump was asked on Wednesday: 'Indian officials have said that there are other countries that are buying Russian oil, like China, for instance. So, why are you singling India out for these additional sanctions?' In response, Trump hinted at more "secondary sanctions" . "It's only been 8 hours. So let's see what happens. You're going to see a lot going to see so much secondary sanctions, " Trump said during a press briefing in White House. He also hinted that US administation could impose "more" similar sanctions on China. On being asked, 'On the Indian penalties, do you have any similar plans to enact more tariffs on China', US President Donald Trump said, "Could happen. Depends on how we do. Could happen." Trump's statement came as he signed an Executive Order imposing an additional 25 percent tariff on imports from India. After the order, the total tariff on Indian goods will be 50 per cent. According to the order issued by the White House, Trump cited matters of national security and foreign policy concerns, as well as other relevant trade laws, for the increase. He claimed that India's imports of Russian oil, directly or indirectly, pose an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States. While the initial duty comes into effect on August 7, the additional levy will come into effect after 21 days and will be imposed on all Indian goods imported into the US, except for goods already in transit or those meeting specific exemptions, news agency ANI reported. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) termed the US's move as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable", declaring that New Delhi will take "all actions necessary to protect its national interests." In an official statement, the MEA said, "The United States has in recent days targeted India's oil imports from Russia. We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India." "It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest," the statement added."We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable. India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests," the MEA stressed.
