Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen saw 'Holly Willoughby as angel' after nearly dying
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has told Yahoo about the moment he saw an angel in the form of Holly Willoughby after nearly dying on the set of Celebrity Bear Hunt.
In conversation with Yahoo UK, the interior designer shared the near-death experience was like a scene from a "disaster movie". The 59-year-old said he "was not breathing" and "blacked out" before Bear Grylls resuscitated him — all while the cameras were still rolling.
But it was Holly Willoughby who made a huge impact on him after the ordeal.
I saw this beautiful blonde with sunlight behind her and lace... And luckily it was Holly!
Making light of the scary situation, Llewelyn-Bowen half joked to Yahoo UK: "I had a nasty moment where I was actually blacked out on the beach and I came to and I saw this beautiful blonde with sunlight behind her and lace... And luckily it was Holly!
"When she leaned forward and said, 'You alright, Lawrence?' I knew it was Holly, it wasn't the angel Gabriel. But the angel Gabriel looks anything like Holly Willoughby, I think the angel Gabriel is gonna be very chuffed to hear that."
Llewelyn-Bowen got into trouble when he was left unable to breathe in shark-infested waters during one of the first Celebrity Bear Hunt challenges. "When you say freak accident, it was an accident that happened to a freak! It's important to stress," he joked.
In all seriousness, he was quick to explain: "I just got too overexcited, there I was — [a] 60-year-old grandfather — let loose on a Costa Rican jungle and in the middle of the sea. In my head I was all sorts of things. I was all sorts of Marvel superheroes — actually, physically I wasn't!"
Joined by his co-star Steph McGovern in the exclusive chat, she didn't completely agree with Llewelyn-Bowen's retelling of what happened. "He'd leapt off a speedboat at speed in a full gear with cameras on him and you'd got to raft in shark-infested waters, like up to that you'd done loads! You were that Marvel hero," She said.
Llewelyn-Bowen delved into the details of how the moment unfolded. He said: "I got stuck under the raft. There was a moment where the waves were doing this and I was underwater for a while. But I could see all the safety divers and everything, I never felt this is where it ends.
"I just felt, well, this is another part of something that I need to confront. I need to get the other side of. And I think in many ways that was where I went wrong. If I'd at that point just gone, 'Oh, right, I've screwed up here.' I think it would have been a bit more straightforward, but actually I didn't.
"I then thought, 'Right, OK', when I'd freed myself from the raft, I then started trying to get up onto the raft. I was throwing myself at the raft, like a kind of very grumpy rhino hitting a wall, and that's when I suddenly realised that I was not breathing.
"I had no oxygen and that's when I blacked out and that's when I suddenly had Bear all over me."
No the TV presenter wasn't terrified as you might expect in the scenario. He said: "I think it must have been much more terrifying for this lot. I felt almost quite peaceful about the fact that everybody was doing absolute [best to help], it was in the midst of this kind of disaster movie with all of this triage going on, all of this Baywatch going on. This lot were just like, what?"
Sheepishly, McGovern admitted she hadn't noticed Llewelyn-Bowen was struggling in the water. "Oh ta!" He quipped in response, "Oh do you know what she was like he's doing it for attention!"
Once the Packed Lunch star did notice Llewelyn-Bowen was in trouble, she naturally started to worry. "Then it was me and Mel B and we both just started to panic for you. We were like, 'Oh my God', this is I mean that's the thing is that you get so immersed."
Llewelyn-Bowen shared his admiration for Celebrity Race Across the World star Kola Bokinni who pushed on with the challenge. He said: "Kola just carried on and did the challenge on his own, which just sort of shows quite how he is the Marvel superhero, for goodness sake."
It's clear the experience taught Llewelyn-Bowen a lot as he come away feeling enriched. "We're show ponies," he said. "What is so joyful about all of this is when the push and the shove come together, which is absolutely what was engineered here [filming Celebrity Bear Hunt], in fact, we can survive as human beings. We can survive as animals."
Celebrity Bear Hunt is now streaming on Netflix.

From villain to hero: Meet Marvel's new Hawaii-born Spider-Girl
HONOLULU (KHON2) — Look out New York — and Hawaii. There's a new Spider-Hero in town. Just released this week, Marvel Comic's latest character. Her name? Spider-Girl. And she's complicated, powerful and better yet, she's Hawaii-born. She's fierce. She's fearless and bringing a fresh twist on classic Spidey vibes. Marvel's new Spider-Girl is officially here and she's creating a buzz. 'Avengers: Doomsday' cast includes Hemsworth's Thor, Mackie's Cap, Fantastic Four and original X-Men 'It's cool because it does bring awareness to the Hawaiian culture itself,' said Stig Lapoint, a comic book fan. This Next-Gen web slinger has roots in Hawaii. Her secret identity is Makawalu Akana and has a dark past that's unlike any Spider hero before her. 'She's a protege of a famous Daredevil villain called 'Bullseye,' and she's breaking away from that in the series and trying to become a proper hero,' said David Nakayama, a veteran cover artist who created the cover art for the debut issue. That's right, Spider-Girl didn't start out trying to save the day. Her superpower is being able to copy other superpowers.'I mean, that's literally the reason I signed on to do the project in the first place. They told me, Spider-Girl, she's Hawaiian. I'm like, Yes, you got me. I'm in,' Nakayama said. David says the challenge was to capture both power and personality in a single image. 'She's of two worlds, right? Like she's from Hawaii, but she's now fighting crime in New York, like a proper Spider person. So we wanted to capture that duality, right?' Nakayama said. 'She's also a youthful spider character, right? She's not Spider-Man, she's Spider-Girl. So, you know, putting in things like little plushies and tassels in her hair is something my daughter would wear. That's kind of the youthful energy we wanted to communicate,' The new ongoing Spider-Girl series is written by Torunn Gronbekk, known for her work with Thor and Venom. Download the free KHON2 app for iOS or Android to stay informed on the latest news In a statement from Marvel, Spider-Girl she said 'eagerly jumps into fights others would think better of' and 'her arrival has definitely caught the attention of the criminal underworld… but maybe for the not the reason one would think.' 'You know, superhero women who are superheroes, has become much more popular in the last, you know, 20-25, years. And I think that's great. So that that hopefully will be a new crowd younger female readers who will get into comics,' said Charlie Whitesell, owner of Other Realms comic book store. Can Spider-Girl truly leave her villainous past behind and make it as a hero? You'll have to read it to see. The debut issue is on shelves now. David Nakayama will be signing copies of the debut issue on June 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Other Realms located on Nimitz Hwy in Iwilei. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff Look All Loved Up While on a Boat in Venice
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Billie Eilish has a new romance in her life. The 'Lunch' singer's relationship history includes everyone from 2 Little Monsters actor Matthew Tyler Vorce, to The Neighbourhood singer Jesse Rutherford, to internet star Quenlin Blackwell, and now, she seems to be dating actor and musician Nat Wolff. Wolff, like Eilish, grew up in the entertainment industry. His mother is actress, writer, director, and producer Polly Draper, and his father is the jazz pianist Michael Wolff. Inspired by their parents, Wolff and his brother, Alex, began acting and singing when they were just kids. They starred in Nickelodeon's The Naked Brothers Band (produced by his mom and with music supervised by his dad) and even went on tour to promote it. Wolff's other acting credits include The Fault in Our Stars (2014), Paper Towns (2015), Stella's Last Weekend (2018), and Mainstream (2020). Now, he and his brother are focused on their music. As pop-rock duo Nat & Alex Wolff, they have released two studio albums and even joined Eilish on her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour last year. Ahead, everything we know Wolff and Eilish's relationship. Despite sources previously denying rumors that Eilish and Wolff are dating, the musicians are seen kissing on a balcony in Venice, Italy, and enjoying some champagne. The pair enjoys a boat ride in Venice, Italy, while in casual outfits. The two are seen cuddling and laughing, and at one point, Wolff leans over to give Eilish a kiss on the cheek. The pair seem to have a date night in Manhattan—first going to see a play at Lucille Lortel Theater, and then going bar-hopping in the East Village. See the photos here. Wolff and brother Alex join Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft tour as the opening act, and soon, rumors that Wolff is involved with Eilish emerge. In an interview published on October 2024, Wolff says of Eilish: 'She's one of those people where almost everything she does, she does better than everyone else. She's like, 'Come see me ride my horse,' and the teacher says, 'You know, if she put all her energy into it, she could go to the Olympics.' You just have to kind of submit to the fact that she's going to be better than everyone else at everything.' Wolff makes an appearance in Eilish's 'CHIHIRO' music video—and they look great running together in coordinating baggy fits. Wolff and Eilish meet at the 2023 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles. Wolff reveals this fact in an interview months later, when he says that they bonded over the fact that they both have Tourette's syndrome.
