This came after JD Wetherspoon was forced to remove its £6.49 chicken bites from the menu.

UFC announces major $7.7billion broadcast change after long-running saga as boss Dana White praises ‘historic deal
THE Ultimate Fighting Championship has officially landed a new broadcast partner. Mixed martial arts' premier promotion's American broadcasting rights had previously been held by ESPN, which first acquired them back in 2018. 4 4 But the UFC have opted NOT to renew its deal with the broadcaster, which is set to expire at the end of the year. All UFC fights will now be aired on Paramount+ after the two entities reached a seven-year deal worth a whopping $7.7BILLION. That's FIVE TIMES the amount ESPN paid to initially acquire the UFC's broadcasting rights. And in a stunning change of business model, the promotion has ABANDONED its pay-per-view model for the first time in its 32-year history. That means fans will be able to access all 13 numbered events - in addition to the other 30 Fight Night cards - for the price of a yearly Paramount+ subscription fee. UFC President and CEO Dana White said: "This historic deal with Paramount and CBS is incredible for UFC fans and our athletes. "For the first time ever, fans in the US will have access to all UFC content without a Pay-Per-View Model, making it more affordable to view the greatest fights on a massive platform. "This deal puts the UFC among the biggest sports in the world. 4 "The exposure provided by the Paramount and CBS networks under this new structure is a huge win for our athletes and anyone who watches and loves this sport." Paramount CEO David Ellison said of the deal: "I couldn't be more excited to join forces with Dana, Ari, and Mark. "Rarely do opportunities arise to partner on an exclusive basis with a global sports powerhouse like UFC – an organisation with extraordinary global recognition, scale, and cultural impact. 'Paramount's advantage lies in the expansive reach of our linear and streaming platforms. "Live sports continue to be a cornerstone of our broader strategy — driving engagement, subscriber growth, and long-term loyalty, and the addition of UFC's year-round must-watch events to our platforms is a major win. "We look forward to delivering this premium content to millions of fans in the U.S., and potentially beyond.' TKO Group headhoncho Ari Emmanuel said: 'This is a milestone moment and landmark deal for UFC. "Solidifying its position as a preeminent global sports asset. 'Our decade-long journey with UFC has been defined by continuous growth and expansion, and this agreement is an important realization of our strategy. "We believe wholeheartedly in David's vision and look forward to being in business with a company that will prioritize technology as a means to enhance storytelling and the overall viewing experience.' The first event of the UFC & Paramount+ era will take place in mid-January. Traditionally, the UFC have kicked off new broadcast deals with a mammoth fight. So expect the same thing to happen early next year.

Labour eye 'utterly reckless' bonfire of nuclear energy regulations
A taskforce commissioned by the UK Government to look into nuclear regulations has recommended a 'radical reset' to speed up projects. Fears have been sparked after the taskforce criticised the 'unnecessarily slow, inefficient and costly' system which governs new nuclear projects. Its final report is expected to focus on tackling what the UK Government described as a 'culture of risk aversion' in nuclear energy regulation. Earlier this year, the UK Government announced it was scrapping a raft of nuclear regulations, including changing the rules so that new projects could be built across the entirety of England and Wales. New nuclear projects are de facto banned in Scotland. (Image: Getty) But critics have accused the Government of 'cutting corners' with the dangerous energy source. Scottish Greens co-leader Lorna Slater said: 'This seems utterly reckless. Nuclear energy is extremely costly and insecure, and it leaves a long and toxic legacy for future generations. 'The last thing we should be doing is cutting corners, especially when it comes to something so dangerous.' She added that nuclear energy was 'totally unnecessary when it comes to our environmental objectives'. The Scottish Greens and the SNP have previously argued that Scotland's natural resources mean that investment is better directed into the renewables sector. READ MORE: Pod of 23 whales found dead on Scottish beach after mass stranding Slater added: 'We have immense renewable resources that can power our way into a greener future if our governments are willing to invest. 'Instead Labour is determined to throw billions at a toxic and dated industry rather than seizing the opportunity to build a modern green energy sector that works for people and planet.' But the UK Government insists that nuclear energy is safe and vital to reaching net zero emissions. Miatta Fahnbulleh, the Minister for Energy Consumers, said: 'For too long, big British infrastructure projects have been held back by needless bureaucracy. 'It's time for a new approach to getting nuclear projects off the ground more quickly, and at a lower cost. 'We look forward to working with the expert taskforce to modernise outdated regulations so we can unlock growth, jobs and energy security for the British people.' John Fingleton, head of the nuclear taskforce, said: 'Nuclear energy is safe and reliable and can contribute to net zero goals. It is also vital to the UK's strategic deterrent. 'However, over recent decades, nuclear regulation has become more complex and costly without always delivering commensurate safety and environmental benefits. 'Our interim report identifies our main concerns with the current system which we think is not fit for purpose.'

Gemfields sells Fabergé for $50m to focus on rubies and emeralds
A London-listed gemstone miner has sold the Fabergé brand for $50 million as it looks to focus on producing emeralds and rubies. Gemfields Group announced the sale of the fine jewellery and ornaments brand to SMG Capital, an American investment firm owned by a tech entrepreneur, with $45 million payable upfront and a further payment due through quarterly royalties. Gemfields is an Aim-listed miner of coloured gemstones. The Fabergé brand has been part of the group for 18 years and it sells fine jewellery as well as the world-renowned Fabergé eggs, which are priced at between £58,080 and £175,680. The original collection of bespoke Easter eggs made for the Russian imperial family by the House of Fabergé sell for many millions. They were produced between 1885 and 1916 by the company run by Peter Carl Fabergé. The most expensive egg was an Easter gift from Emperor Alexander III to Empress Marie Feodorovna in 1887 and was valued at $33 million in a sale to a private collector. Analysts at Panmure Liberum said the sale was a 'good outcome' for Gemfields as it would free up capital for the expansion of its mining operations and strengthen the group's balance sheet. Shares in Gemfields rose 0.18p, or 3.1 per cent, to 5.88p. Sean Gilbertson, group chief executive of Gemfields, said that the company's gemstones had benefited from the ownership of Fabergé and that the group would miss the 'marketing leverage and star power' of the luxury brand. Sergei Mosunov, chief executive and owner of SMG Capital, said: 'It is a great honour for me to become the custodian of such an outstanding and globally recognised brand. Fabergé's unique heritage, with ties to Russia, England, France and the USA, opens significant opportunities for further strengthening its position in the global luxury market and expanding its international presence.' • The hottest jewellery for the new season Gemfields sold the jewellery brand after conducting a strategic review and will use the sale proceeds as working capital while it sets up a new processing facility at its ruby mine in Mozambique. In a stock market statement to investors, Gemfields said: 'With the sale of Fabergé and the discontinuance of other non-core projects, Gemfields is now a more streamlined and focused investment proposition with a strengthened balance sheet.' The group has a primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and operates the Kagem emerald mine in Zambia and the Montepuez ruby mine in Mozambique. Gemfieds generated $117.2 million from its ruby mine last year and revenues of $78.7 million from its Zambian mine. The Fabergé brand generated sales of $13.4 million.
