Hunter Brown reaches 10 victories, helping the Astros beat the Red Sox 4-1
Brown (10-5) allowed six hits and three walks and held Boston to 1 for 6 with runners in scoring position. The Astros entered the day tied with Seattle for first place in the American League West.
Peña started a two-run first with his his fifth leadoff homer of the season on Walker Buehler's fifth pitch. Diaz added a two-out RBI single and, with the Astros up 2-1 with two out in the sixth, he sent an 0-1 sweeper from Buehler (7-7) 415 to left-center for his 17th homer.
Boston had the tying run at third base with two outs in the sixth. With Romy Gonzalez at the plate, Red Sox manager Alex Cora stood outside the dugout demanding Brown be called for a balk. A meeting between the four umpires ensued, but no balk was called. Cora was ejected for the fifth time in 2025 during a pitching change an inning later.
Bennett Sousa took over for Brown in the seventh, pitching 1 1/3 innings. Bryan Abreu worked the ninth for his first save.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn will retire 2010 Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton's No. 2 jersey this fall, making him the fourth player in program history to receive the honor. The ceremony will take place during Auburn's home game against rival Georgia on Oct. 11. The jerseys of Sullivan and Beasley were retired following Sullivan's 1971 Heisman Trophy season, and Jackson's number was retired as part of Auburn's football centennial celebration in 1992. South Africa's Kolisi and Du Toit ruled out of Rugby Championship clash with Australia
CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) — Captain Siya Kolisi and Pieter-Steph du Toit have been ruled out injured from playing for South Africa against Australia in the Rugby Championship this weekend. Beside the back-rowers, both wingers from the 38-22 loss to the Wallabies last Saturday at Ellis Park were also out. Kurt-Lee Arendse had a knee injury like Kolisi, and Edwill van der Merwe had an ankle issue. Du Toit was concussed. The good news for the Boks was the return to fitness of backs Cheslin Kolbe and Damian de Allende for the second round in Cape Town on Saturday. Meyer Shank Racing extends Marcus Armstrong's contract after a strong season
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Meyer Shank Racing on Monday announced a contract extension for driver Marcus Armstrong that will see the New Zealander back in the No. 66 next season. Armstrong moved from Chip Ganassi Racing to MSR this season when the two teams formed a technical alliance. In his first year in the No. 66, Armstrong has logged 10 top-10 finishes and podiumed at Iowa Speedway. It was just the second podium of his IndyCar career.
