Hajiji: GRS chose unity govt after Borneo cooperation dismissed by past 'prominent leader'
"I had an experience with Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan when we met 'a prominent leader' in Kuala Lumpur.
"That person said they were the 'master' and expressed dislike towards the idea of a 'Borneo Bloc'.
"He also did not want us to share our experience and story with our neighbour, Sarawak.
"I was shocked by those words. It took me some time to think about it and to understand what he meant.
"I felt so disheartened by them. After much reflection, I decided that GRS should support the unity government," he said during his winding-up at Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah annual general assembly at the Sabah International Convention Centre here.
Hajiji, who is also Gagasan president, clarified that the 'prominent leader' is not part of the unity government.
The state chief minister said GRS would continue to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as he had introduced many initiatives and upheld rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
"If the unity government is good for the state, why shouldn't we support it?"
Commenting on his visit to Jakarta with Anwar tomorrow, he said the trip would include discussions with the Indonesian government on development matters related to the Sulawesi Sea.
Hajiji also gave his assurance that the Sabah government would continue to pursue the state's entitlement to 40 per cent revenue, as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

Opposition bid to undermine GRS unity: PBS
Published on: Tuesday, August 05, 2025 Published on: Tue, Aug 05, 2025 Text Size: Dr Joachim and other officials during the cake-cutting ceremony. PENAMPANG: Acting PBS President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam has reminded party members, particularly the youth and women's wings, not to be influenced by the opposition's attempts to create division within the party. Speaking at the 30th Annual General Meeting of the PBS Moyog Division held at Turongou Farmstay here on Saturday, he said recent claims by the opposition as efforts to disrupt party unity. Dr Joachim also dismissed allegations that he and Star President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan were excluded from a Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) event. 'I sent a representative because I had to officiate five PBS division AGMs in Beaufort on the same day. How can anyone say PBS doesn't support the Chief Minister when many of our leaders were present?' he said. He said PBS remains committed to supporting the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and called on members to remain focused on the party's objectives. 'Don't be easily influenced. Stay focused. Our journey is far from over. PBS continues to be relevant,' he said. Advertisement Dr Joachim also reminded members that the current State Government was formed through cooperation between Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) Plus. He noted that PH had backed Hajiji during a political crisis two years ago, a move that helped maintain administrative stability. 'GRS won't forget PH's support during that time. The opposition will try any way possible to break us. That's why we must stay united,' he said. He also thanked Moyog Division Chief John Chryso Masabal and the organising committee for inviting him to officiate the meeting. The event also included the handing over of new membership forms to Dr Joachim and was attended by party vice-presidents and members of the Women and Youth wings. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Peace talks, debt issues top Dewan Rakyat Agenda today
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's role in facilitating peace talks and a ceasefire in the Thailand-Cambodia conflict is among the focus of Dewan Rakyat sitting today. Based on the Order Paper on the Parliament portal, the matter was raised by Rodiyah Sapiee (GPS-Batang Sadong) to the Prime Minister during Minister's Question Time. In the same session, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (PN-Kuala Kangsar) also sought clarification from the Prime Minister on whether the MADANI Government was managing the national debt responsibly. Meanwhile, in the question and answer session, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis (Warisan-Kota Belud) asked the Foreign Minister about the proposed Joint Development with Indonesia in the ND 6 and ND 7 Ambalat blocks. She also wanted to know whether the same method would be used through the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Authority (MTJDA) or another method given that the rights of Sabah as well as Sarawak are protected under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN-Besut) asked the Prime Minister to state the government's decision after a holistic engagement session with stakeholders regarding the status of the establishment of the Malaysian Ombudsman, as well as the next steps to expedite its establishment. In addition, Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (PH-Tebrau) asked the Minister of Defence if the ministry had plans to integrate the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology in the country's air defence system. The Dewan Rakyat sitting will then resume with the debate session on the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) motion tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday. This Dewan Rakyat session will last for 24 days until August 28. - Bernama
