Primary pupils asked to send 'nude photos' after being added to WhatsApp group
More than 80 children, aged as young as ten, were reportedly added to the group and encouraged to add as many of their peers as possible.
The figure behind the WhatsApp group warned those added, 'not to let parents know.'
In an email to parents, seen by STV News, the head teacher of Paradykes Primary described the messages as 'highly inappropriate' with some 'referring explicitly to body parts.'
Parents have been urged to check their child's devices immediately.
Midlothian Council conducted an investigation and confirmed the group did not affect devices issued by the local authority.
Police Scotland has been informed.
A Midlothian Council spokesperson said: 'The head teacher at Paradykes Primary emailed parents today after a parent reported concerns about the online safety of children on a WhatsApp group.
'A council investigation confirmed the group was not on council devices. The head teacher has passed the matter to the police, and the council will issue guidance to all parents in Midlothian on how to keep their child safe online.
'Support is available to any Paradykes Primary School pupil upset by this incident, if required.'
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.

Girl, 13, dies as boy arrested on suspicion of murder and rape
The 13-year-old's death is currently being treated as unexplained. A 13-year-old girl has tragically died after being found unresponsive in a flat with a boy arrested on suspicion of rape and murder. The teenager, named locally as Casey, is believed to have been living in Liverpool under the care system, and had travelled to Huddersfield on Monday, August 11. A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and rape in relation to Casey's death. He has also been arrested for an alleged rape of a 16-year-old girl in what police have referred to as a "separate incident" elsewhere in Kirklees. He has since been released on conditional bail, West Yorkshire Police said. The news of the incident has shocked the local community. Local MP Harpreet Uppal said: "This is a tragic case and my thoughts remain with the 13 year old teenager and her family and friends. I have been in contact with the police and I am being updated on the investigation. "Detectives are working tirelessly to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the girl's death which is being treated as unexplained after a post mortem could not establish how she died. Investigation launched after man injured during carjacking
A probe has been launched after a man was injured during a carjacking in Aberdeen on Saturday. Emergency services were alerted to the theft of a Honda CR-V in the School Road area of the city at around 2.45pm. A man was taken to hospital following the incident. Officers located and recovered the vehicle in the Faulds Wynd area. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: 'Around 2.45pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025, police received a report of a disturbance and the theft of a Honda CR-V in the School Road area of Aberdeen. Man arrested after Antoine Semenyo reports racist abuse at Liverpool match
Antoine Semenyo reported a racist comment from a member of the crowd during the opening match of the Premier League season between Bournemouth and Liverpool at Anfield. A man has been arrested following reports that a Bournemouth football player was racially abused during the first Premier League game of the season. AFC Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a spectator during the opening match against Liverpool. Match referee Anthony Taylor stopped play in the 29th minute on Friday and a man, 47, was ejected from Anfield stadium. A 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has been taken into custody to be interviewed, Merseyside Police said. Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, match commander for the Liverpool versus Bournemouth game, said on Friday: "Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form. "We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible."
