MNS Activists Blacken Face OfNIT Officer Over Alleged Graft
1 2 Nagpur: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists on Thursday blackened the face of assistant engineer with Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), Suresh Chavan, at the trust's East Division office over his alleged involvement in corruption. While the NIT claimed that the ink attack was due to personal enmity, MNS office-bearers maintained it was the result of negligence by NIT's senior officials, despite multiple complaints against the official in question. MNS's city unit secretary, Ghanshyam Nikhade, said the party's office-bearers had given multiple complaints against Chavan to senior NIT officials, but they did not take any action and instead protected him. "Even on July 18, we had submitted a written complaint regarding corruption by Chavan, but the officials neither took any action nor transferred him. Had action been taken by the seniors, the incident could have been avoided," said Nikhade. He also added that NIT officials are contacting party office-bearers from rural Nagpur who do not have any knowledge about the issue. A senior NIT official told TOI that the attack was due to personal animosity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mini House for 60 sqm for Seniors with Toilet and Bath (Prices May Surprise You) Pre Fabricated Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo "We have directed the official to file a police complaint as the incident happened on NIT premises. We have also given a complaint in writing to the police," said the official. MNS claimed that on Sept 13, 2023, under the leadership of Sandeep Deshpande and Raju Umralkar, the party had taken out a protest march to the NIT office and submitted a memorandum to the then chairman, Manojkumar Suryawanshi. "At the time, Chavan had been serving continuously for 10 years at the NIT's East Division office without transfer. This prolonged tenure enabled him to carry out several large-scale irregularities. For example, he reportedly collected lakhs of rupees from encroachers of NIT-owned land in Mouza-Chikhali (Dev) by promising them unauthorized land allotments," said MNS. The MNS also accused Chavan of embezzling govt funds under the guise of development works in Bhandkheda (Central Nagpur) by submitting fake bills for cement road projects that were either not carried out or were actually done by the NMC. "All these instances of corruption, along with supporting evidence, were submitted to various authorities, including the then chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union minister Nitin Gadkari, and other concerned govt agencies. The chief minister's office acknowledged the memorandum and directed immediate investigation. However, NIT officials dismissed these directives and took no action. On the contrary, with support from certain political figures and senior NIT officials, Chavan allegedly got himself re-appointed to the East Division to resume his corrupt activities after being briefly transferred to West Division office," the MNS alleged in a press note.

Criminal on records of Raj and Guj police among two arrested in dacoity at Nigdi industrialist's bungalow
Pune: A criminal (29) on the records of the Gujarat and Rajasthan police and his aide (19), also from Rajasthan, were arrested by the Pimpri Chinchwad police last week in connection with the dacoity at a bungalow in Nigdi Pradhikaran earlier this month. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now On the night of July 19, the duo — Suresh Dhaka (29) and Mahipal Bishnoi (19) — along with three others allegedly looted Rs6.15 lakh from the home of a 76-year-old small-scale industrial unit owner. The police recovered the stolen property from the duo and are searching for the other three, which includes the kingpin who plotted the dacoity. As per the complaint, the five robbers — four men and a woman — entered the victim's bungalow while he was alone there. A couple, who serve as domestic help to the victim, and their two children, were in an outhouse behind the bungalow. The gang tied all the victims and took away cash and jewellery from the scene. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP-crime) Shivaji Pawar said that 10 teams of the crime branch and local police stations were formed to detect the crime. A crime branch team led by senior police inspector Vijay Dhamal checked CCTV footage in the Nigdi area and identified a white hatchback car seen near the crime scene on and before July 19. "The car's registration number was in Marathi. The team traced the car's trajectory by checking CCTV footage. On the way, the occupants changed the car's registration number plate. After travelling over 1,200km, it finally reached Jaipur in Rajasthan," said Pawar. Assistant police inspectors Dattatreya Gulig and Pandurang Devkate took Dhaka into custody from Shyamnagar in Jaipur on July 24. "Dhaka is a criminal on records of Rajasthan and Gujarat police. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He has 21 cases, including attempt to murder, robberies, and thefts registered against him," the DCP said. The police also seized the car used in the crime, which is owned by Dhaka's brother and registered in Gujarat. Gold jewellery of the complainant's wife, his wallet, and their Aadhaar cards were recovered from Dhaka. "We also recovered four walkie-talkie sets. The gang used these instead of cellphones during the dacoity to communicate so that police could not trace them by tracking cellphone locations," Pawar added. During the interrogation, Dhaka revealed the name of the gang's kingpin, who hatched the plot and three others (Bishnoi, another man and a woman). "Our team on July 27 arrested Bishnoi, who is currently residing in Wadgaon Maval and originally hails from Jodhpur in Rajasthan. We recovered the complainant's wristwatch, imitation jewellery stolen from his house, and a duplicate number plate of the hatchback car from him," said Pawar. Police search for kingpin The DCP said the dacoity was plotted based on a tip-off. The kingpin of the gang was also involved in a dacoity at a jewellery showroom at Kokane Chowk in Rahatani in March 2019. There, another gang had robbed gold and silver jewellery worth Rs62.50 lakh by opening fire at the jeweller. "The accused was arrested and was in jail thereafter. He was released last year. After that, he hatched the latest plot. We are now investigating who gave the tip-off to the suspect about the complainant in the Nigdi case," said Pawar. According to the DCP, the gang had been planning the dacoity for the last two months and visiting Pimpri Chinchwad since then. "They used a country-made pistol in the crime. We are yet to recover it," Pawar said.
