Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that he turned down the invitation of US President Donald Trump to visit the United States because he wanted to 'come to the land of Jagannath Mahaprabhu".
While addressing a rally in Bhubaneswar to commemorating one year of the BJP government in Odisha, PM Modi said that he received a call from Trump while he was in Canada to attend the G7 Summit, asking him to come to Washington for dinner and talks. However, he 'politely declined his invitation" and returned to India for his scheduled visit to Odisha on June 20.
'Just two days ago, I was in Canada for the G7 summit and the US President Trump called me. He said, since you have come to Canada, go via Washington, we will have dinner together and talk. He extended the invitation with great insistence. I told the US President, thank you for the invitation. It is very important for me to go to the land of Mahaprabhu and hence I politely declined his invitation and your love and devotion to Mahaprabhu brought me to this land," PM Modi said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Officials must work on the ground: Hebbalkar

Udupi: With the district experiencing more rainfall than usual, officials must work on the ground to ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience, said Laxmi Hebbalkar, minister of women and child development and Udupi district minister. Presiding over the quarterly KDP meeting on Friday, the minister said that Rs 4.5 crore was released to prevent sea erosion, and the work must be expedited. The minister instructed port department officials to identify areas affected by sea erosion from Hejmadi in Kaup taluk to Shiroor in Byndoor and submit a report to the govt. The maintenance of Malpe port should be done properly. CCTV should be installed, and security and cleanliness should be maintained, the minister directed port department officials. "Special attention should be given to tourism and sports development. The district should grow as a major tourism centre. It is a naturally beautiful place with religious sites, and it should attract more tourists. Unauthorised homestays should be curbed, and children under 18 should not be employed at tourist spots. Steps should be taken for the development of tourism and sports under the PPP model," the minister said. The company that supplied substandard seeds to farmers in the district should be blacklisted, and strict action should be taken. Horticulture department officials should ensure that govt schemes reach the people. Awareness should be raised about high-income generating fruits, she said. "In the coastal region of the state, fishing activities are more prevalent. However, only 25 houses are being approved under the housing scheme. Other districts are also being given 25 houses. Steps will be taken to resolve these issues," she said. The Varahi irrigation works were initiated five years ago, but compensation has not yet been provided, and crops have not been allowed to grow. This is causing a lot of trouble for farmers. Suitable compensation should be provided to farmers by the next meeting, the minister said. MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Kiran Kumar Kodgi, Gururaj Gantihole, Gurme Suresh Shetty, MLCs Manjunath Bhandary, Dhananjay Sarji, deputy commissioner Swaroopa TK, zilla panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal, superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, DFO Ganapati, and other departmental officials were present at the meeting.

Case against ex-Nellore MP's relative for encroaching mutt land

Tirupati: Nellore rural police registered a case against Narendra Reddy, a close relative of former YSRCP MP Adala Prabhakar Reddy, on charges of illegally occupying lands belonging to Ahobila mutt in Nellore rural assembly constituency. The land parcel, measuring 1.8 acres in survey number 195 of Kanuparthipadu village abutting the Chennai-Kolkata national highway, was illegally occupied by the encroachers. The approximate market value of the land is Rs 15 crore. While mutt authorities have been fighting legally to reclaim the land, the protracted fight by the mutt's Nellore unit secretary KC Varadarajan reached a flashpoint on Friday when he released a video through social media, accusing the former MP of trying to usurp the land after promising to render justice for over 12 years. "Mr Prabhakar Reddy purchased the land from dubious sellers who fraudulently claimed it to be their ancestral property. However, after coming to know of the fact, he agreed to 'do justice' to the mutt, but dragged his feet for 12 years," Varadarajan said, adding that the culprits also tampered with revenue records by using forged documents. When the mutt's representatives visited the site to erect a board in the presence of revenue officials on Thursday, the former MP's followers reportedly manhandled them and pushed the board down. Some official documents in the possession of VRO DV Ramanaiah were also allegedly snatched away, after which he lodged a complaint at Nellore rural police station. Nellore rural legislator Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy has assured to render justice to Ahobila mutt besides initiating action against those behind the encroachment.
