Would Nick Saban ever return to coaching? Georgia head coach Kirby Smart weighs in
Since, many across college football have chimed in to give their thoughts as to if that would ever happen, the latest of which came Tuesday morning at SEC football media days in Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
'That's not happening, I don't think Nick's coming back,' Smart said. 'I think he's too happy where he is. I think y'all are lacking buzz and they needed some buzz yesterday. That was the only thing that could generate some buzz besides Lane and Hugh (Freeze) feud over the internet. There's just not a lot there.'
Among current SEC head coaches, Smart was the one who was with Saban the longest at Alabama, spending nine seasons in Tuscaloosa, many of which came as defensive coordinator from 2008-15.
Since taking over as head coach at Georgia in 2016, Saban and Smart met head-to-head six times on the gridiron, with Alabama owning a 5-1 combined record. Two of those games came in the national championship, with the teams splitting the matchups, along with three SEC title contests.

Warriors' Jonathan Kuminga gets $45 million contract update with sticking point
Still, no Jonathan Kuminga contract. Man, this is getting brutal. The Golden State Warriors and their restricted free agent forward can't come to an agreement, and it's hard to see what might change to reach a compromise. NBA insider Marc Stein has said that a two-year, $45 million deal is on the table from the Warriors, but Kuminga isn't biting on the contract that would include a team option in the second year. Kuminga is being asked to waive the right to veto trades in the first year of that deal, Stein writes, something that prevents the player from losing their free agency Bird rights. The Warriors want that from Kuminga, but he doesn't want to waive that. Stein adds that Jaxson Hayes, Taurean Prince and Jeff Green are three players who have waived such a provision already this offseason. As an RFA, he doesn't have a ton of negotiating power. He showed his importance to Golden State in the playoffs when Jimmy Butler and then Stephen Curry were injured. In their absences, Kuminga scored a bunch of points in short order to try and keep the Warriors alive. Golden State wants to keep him, given that they've made him a competitive offer, but it doesn't seem they want to go up to Kuminga's price point. He doesn't have a lot of negotiating power given that no other team has made an offer sheet for him as a restricted free agent, basically leaving the power in Golden State's corner. This could drag on for a while, unless the Warriors or Kuminga are willing to meet closer to the middle on some aspect of this negotiation. Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders recently made several urine-related jokes, and Sanders might have just put a Porta Potty-sized target (pun fully intended) on Colorado's sideline this fall. During a press conference with his medical team on Monday, the former NFL sensation revealed that he had his bladder removed following a cancerous tumor diagnosis. The medical professionals who treated Sanders say he is now cancer-free. While great news, that's still pretty devastating given everything the Colorado coach has been through with his health the last several years, including having toes amputated. The jokes were pretty good, we must admit, but there was a reason he was trying to make light of a very clearly serious situation. Gout Gout sent message ahead of showdown as rival called out for post-race act
Noah Lyles has been accused of poor sportsmanship after he was pushed from a rival after winning the US titles with a time that sends a message to Gout Gout and his competitors ahead of the World Championships. Gout would have been paying attention to the US titles with 200m world champ Lyles up against rival Kenny Bednarek in a very quick field. And the pair were involved in a heated moment after the race as Lyles chased down Bednarek on the home stretch to win in 19.63 seconds. Lyles' time is the fastest of the year and well beyond anything Gout has put up so far in his flourishing career. And the 17-year-old would have also taken notice of Lyles and Bednarek sharing some words after the race. Lyles crossed over into Bednarek's lane after the win having looked over at his rival at the finish line. This prompted Bednarek to give Lyles a little shove as he crossed lanes. Lyles then taunted Bednarek in front of the cameras having won the event. The pair shared some words in a heated conversation. "I tell ya, if you've got a problem, I expect a call," Bednarek said. Lyles replied: "You know what, you're right. You're right. Let's talk after this." But Bednarak took aim at his 200m rival moments later in front of the media. "Noah is going to be Noah. If he wants to stare me down that is fine, but I ran five rounds, he is fresh. He can line up again when we are both fresh and see what happens," Bednarak said. "What he said doesn't matter, it's just what he did. Unsportsmanlike s**t and I don't deal with that." Lyles claimed he wasn't at 100 per cent for the meet, but was happy with his performance. "It was a pretty difficult championship," Lyles said "I've been tired. It's been rough. Coming out here when you're not 100 per cent and being able to say, 'I still got to give my all no matter what happens.' That's tough. That's tough." While there is clearly tension between the two, both will be looking to take the crown at the Athletics World Championships next month in Tokyo. And Gout will also be looking to make his mark in a stacked field. However, he will need to break some Aussie records if he is going to get the attention of his rivals. Lyles ran the fastest-time of the year so far to win the race in 19.63. Bednarak was second with an impressive time of 19.67. To put this into perspective, Gout broke the Aussie national record with 20.02 in the Ostrava meet in June. Gout beat his own national record by 0.02 in what was his first ever run in Europe and also set the record for the track in Ostrava. While he has sub-20 in Australia the time was not an official record because of the wind assistance. Gout's fastest time would have seen him finish in equal sixth in the US nationals. This is partly why the 17-year-old has only competed in one men's event in overseas competition. While he competed in the men's race in Ostrava, he followed it up running in the U-23 men division in Monaco. Gout won the race in 20.10 seconds, but was facing strong headwind and recorded an impressive time. Aussie fans can't wait to see what Gout can do at the Tokyo event next month.
