"Do You Expect Him To Take 10 Wickets?": Kapil Dev Slams Young India Star's Critics
Kapil stated that it is too soon to judge his potential as the team needs to assess Kamboj performance in the upcoming games.
"What do you expect from a debutant, that he should take 10 wickets? You have to assess his potential. If he's good enough, he will bounce back. Everyone is nervous when playing their first game. The result may not be ideal, but I believe the ability is there, and that's more important," Kapil told media at the launch of the second-half schedule of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
He also said the England series will serve as a valuable learning experience for young India skipper Shubman Gill and urged critics to give him some time to grow into the leadership role.
"Give him time. This is his first series, he will commit mistakes and there will be many positives over the period of time, he will learn. There is no problem if he is learning. There will be mistakes, but he is learning from his mistakes, that is very important," he said.
Gill's India saw England pile up the highest-ever Test total scored at Old Trafford, Manchester during the fourth Test of the series. England made a mammoth first innings score of 669, with Joe Root and Ben Stokes slamming tons.
"This is a young team, they are getting the opportunity to play and in the coming days these players will win. It is just a new team. Any new team in the world takes time to adjust. Gill is a new captain, and he will learn a lot and I think this series will be a learning step," he added.

Akash Deep blasted for tone-deaf Duckett send-off, Shubman Gill told to keep bowlers in line: ‘Captain should say…'
The interaction between Akash Deep and Ben Duckett following the batter's dismissal has been a big talking point from the second day of the fifth Test match between India and England. Akash Deep has faced criticism for his send-off to Duckett, which included him putting an arm around the southpaw following the wicket. Akash Deep was expensive before he finally found the wicket of Ben Duckett.(PTI) More than the arm itself, many have found issues with Akash celebrating a wicket in that way after England had put up a 92-run opening stand in just 13 overs, with Crawley and Duckett playing some hype-aggressive cricket. Even Duckett's wicket was one taken when he attempted an unorthodox and risky shot — the main reason it displeased some, included former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja. Speaking on Sony Sports Network's Hindi show, Jadeja didn't hold back his words in his reaction to Akash's action. 'When it was happening, I couldn't understand what he could be sledging about at this point. The situation was that on a seaming wicket, in 10 overs it was 94 runs, you have gone for 40 in 5 overs,' said Jadeja furiously. 'Even the wicket you've taken, you haven't taken it, he's dismissed himself.' Jadeja's criticism stemmed from the fact that Akash was just happy to celebrate the wicket without realising the fact that India were well behind in the game at that point, only having scored 224 in the first innings. 'I've gotten the wicket, that's why I will celebrate. How I got it, why I got it, when I got it, if I should have gotten it, not gotten it, what I did, that has no thought,' he said. Nehra urges captain to speak to his bowlers in such situations While Jadeja wasn't happy with Akash's actions, Ashish Nehra had a more forgiving view of the situation, trying to provide a bowler's perspective on the matter. Delhiites would soon get an opportunity to experience hot air balloon rides. Officials said on Thursday that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has finalised an agency to conduct the adventure activity at four locations. "After careful consideration, the four locations have been selected for the initial start of the project," the official was quoted by news agency PTI as saying. 2. Commonwealth Games sports complex 3. Two other sites along the Yamuna Bank at Asita and Baansera The Commonwealth Games Village along the banks of the Yamuna River is spread across a vast space of around 100 acres. It was constructed as a residence for athletes during the Commonwealth Games in 2010. It is located near Akshardham temple. Meanwhile, the Yamuna Sports Complex, situated in Surajmal Vihar, was also constructed for the games. It is the biggest sports complex developed by DDA. The DDA will provide 3600 sqm of space at each site for the operation of tethered hot air balloons, which will be tied to a rope at one end on the ground. "This project will promote eco-tourism and recreational activities and provide a unique aerial perspective of the national capital and its landscape. The entire concept has been visualised under the guidance and supervision of Lt Governor VK Saxena," a statement from the DDA read. As per the report, the agency will likely commence operations in two months' time. Four hours of flying time will be allowed every day. The private company will be operating on a revenue-sharing model, and the agency will be allowed to advertise on the balloons. The DDA said in a statement that to ensure transparency and proper record keeping, "all proceeds from ticketing will be credited to DDA's account." The price of the hot-air balloon rides will be decided by the firm. However, the DDA has directed them to keep the tickets at a reasonable price. The development came as the DDA is extensively working on the Rejuvenation of the River Yamuna and the state. The aim is to develop Yamuna Front into a tourism and culture hub. Also, ferry service is being developed on the Yamuna River on a four- to six-km stretch between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur. This project also aims to develop tourism in the state. An MoU was signed between the Inland Waterways Authority of India and the departments of the Delhi government.
