Tottenham return is unrealistic

United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino has ruled himself out the running to replace Ange Postecoglou, saying a return to Tottenham at this point is "not realistic". Postecoglou, 59, was sacked on Friday, despite leading the club to their first piece of silverware in 17 years with victory in the Europa whose five-year stay at the club came to an end in November 2019, has been linked with a return to the Argentine, who was appointed US manager in October 2024, says he is happy in his new role. "Today it's not realistic," said Pochettino, 53. "Look where I am. Look where we (his backroom staff) are. The answer is so clear. "I think, since I left in 2019, my name has always been on the list [of rumours]."I've seen the rumours, we are 100 coaches on the list. Don't be worried about that. "If something happens [in the future], you for sure will see, but I am so happy in this moment and we cannot talk about this type of thing."Pochettino was speaking after the United States were beaten 2-1 by Turkey in Connecticut. It was the side's third straight defeat, leaving Pochettino with five wins and four losses from nine matches in his time in north London, Pochettino helped Spurs reach the final of the Champions League in 2019, as well as to a second-place finish in the Premier League in 2017. Brentford manager Thomas Frank is a leading contender to replace Postecoglou, while there is interest in Fulham coach Marco Silva.

Amanda Nunes confirms mammoth UFC return after intense staredown with new champion Kayla Harrison

Amanda Nunes has confirmed her intention to make a mammoth return to the UFC after engaging in an intense staredown with newly-crowned bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison. Nunes is widely considered the greatest women's fighter in UFC history, boasting the accolade as the first women to ever hold two title simultaneously while also holding the record for longest unbeaten streak in women's UFC history on nine. She bid farewell to the sport in 2023, retiring on top as she vacated both her titles to enjoy her riches and focus on her family. Now, however, she appears to be on her way back to the cage after Harrison invited her into the Octagon following her title win at UFC 316, stoking the fire for a mouth-watering title clash down the line.' 'I see you Amanda,' she said in her post-fight interview. 'Come on up. This is the next fight. 'This is the greatest fighter of all time, for a long time I've said I want what she has. I have a belt, she has a legacy, let's put it all on the line.' Joe Rogan asked Nunes if she planned to accept the challenge, to which the former two-division champion said: 'Yes definitely. We knew this was going to happen. Now, we're going to do it. I'm more than happy to come back and fight you.' After exchanging pleasantries, the pair then got the money shot in a vehement staredown in the middle of the Octagon, evoking a raucous reaction from the New Jersey crowd. It leaves the women's bantamweight division in its strongest position in years, now with a marquee bout in the pipeline. The announcement preceded Merab Dvalishvili 's bantamweight title rematch with Sean O'Malley, which the Georgian steamrolled to victory in to stake his claim as the best to ever do it in his division.

Merab Dvalishvili chokes Sean O'Malley in front of Donald Trump at UFC 316 before jumping over octagon for chat with president in New Jersey

Merab Dvalishvili defended his title in sensational fashion at UFC 316 before jumping over the octagon to celebrate with Donald Trump. The Georgian, who gave O'Malley a rematch having beaten him on the scorecards last year, improved on that performance with a merciless finish. A combination of a neck crank and choke from the north-south position crushed down on 'Suga Sean' forcing him to tap out in the third round. Having been booed by almost all of the Prudential Center crowd, who were particularly hostile on his walk-out and even grabbed him, the champion soon won them around. Secret service on site will have been nervous at the sight of the crazed fighter jumping the cage towards Trump. But they shared a few words and a handshake before posing for pictures. It was a routine copied by a few other fighters on the night and the president, who has used the UFC to help cultivate his image, was only happy to oblige. MERAB TAPPED OUT THE SUGA SHOW!! 😮‍💨 🇬🇪 🏆 #UFC316 | Saturday | LIVE on TNT Sports & discovery+ — UFC on TNT Sports (@ufcontnt) June 8, 2025 Merab Dvalishvili beat Sean O'Malley in the main event of UFC 316 on Saturday night He had walked out with Dana White to his usual rapturous reception, notably not flanked by Elon Musk as he had previously been before - now the pair are in a public spat and the relationship has turned sour. Trump watched on as Dvalishvili started as he meant to continue, suffocating O'Malley with his pressure forwards. The challenger did well to keep him largely at bay over the first five minutes and also stymied takedowns in an even second round, albeit with Dvalishvili doing enough to win it. Those takedown attempts kept coming in the third and by this point, the famed cardio of the champion was coming into its own. He picked up O'Malley like a doll and with a grin on his face, dumped him back down to earth. Dvalishvili was working away with elbows on the floor and then slipped an arm under O'Malley's neck, securing a nasty, twisting kind of choke while readjusting the angle to press his chest down on the face. That was all she wrote and Dvalishvili may now hopefully be adding some finishing finesse to what was a deadly but not always entertaining style. Afterwards he said: 'I'm on top of the world, I'm a world champion. I came from nothing. 'It doesn't matter what you have as long as you know where you go and you have a goal. Please, believe in your dreams. Everything is possible. 'He was well prepared. I knew he was going to make changes. Every time I lost, I made a big change and I learned from it. But I'm getting better and better. Now it's my time.' He also went on to confirm a fight with Corey Sandhagen will be next. In the co-main event, Kayla Harrison dominated Julianna Pena, forcing a tap with eight seconds on the clock in the second round. It was a kimura submission and would have almost certainly broken the former champion's arm, had she not sensibly quit.
