Congress leader accuses Amarnath Jarkiholi of assault in Gokak

The Hindu05-07-2025
Congress leader Mahantesh Kadadi has alleged that some BJP members, including Amarnath Jarkiholi, son of MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi, assaulted his driver during the annual fair at the Laxmi temple in Gokak on July 3.
'On July 3, I was going around town in my open jeep after visiting the Laxmi temple. When I got down to meet a friend, some youth, including Amarnath Jarkiholi, attacked my driver. They ran away after beating him up. Police Sub-inspector K. B. Walikar, who was on the spot, neither tried to stop the attack nor did he help the victim. Mr. Walikar only tried to give some advise to my driver, saying he should not take the incident seriously, and left the spot,' Dr. Kadadi said.
'The police are mute spectators to the crimes being committed by some powerful people in Gokak. In yesterday's case, the police did not entertain us when we tried to submit a complaint. I will complain against this incident to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwar,' Dr. Kadadi said.
Dr. Kadadi had contested unsuccessfully against Ramesh Jarkiholi in the 2023 Assembly polls. He is related to Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi who is a BJP leader.

‘Stop conducting, start contesting elections': Kanhaiya Kumar's jibe at Election Commission

Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar on Sunday hit out at the Election Commission over the alleged voter list discrepancies made by Rahul Gandhi, saying the poll body should "stop conducting" and "start contesting" elections. All India Congress Committee Incharge, NSUI, Kanhaiya Kumar addresses a press conference after the meeting of AICC General Secretaries, In-charges, and Frontal Heads, in New Delhi on Tuesday. (AICC/ANI Photo)(AICC) "When opposition leader Rahul Gandhi is saying that there are discrepancies and you should investigate... then they said that SIR has been done to prevent discrepancies... Now, today, the Election Commission is suddenly holding a press conference. The Election Commission should stop conducting and start contesting elections themselves," Kumar told ANI. Kanhaiya also questioned the motive behind the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, saying the EC had earlier said that there is no issue in the electoral rolls. "When your intentions are not good, no matter how much you try to hide the truth, it will come out. The Election Commission had been saying for many months that there is no issue in the electoral rolls, and when the LoP, Rahul Gandhi, started exposing them, the Election Commission started the SIR exercise. We want the electoral rolls to be sanitised," he said. The remark from the Congress leader comes as the Election Commission on Sunday held a press conference in New Delhi amid the "vote choti" allegations made by some opposition parties. During the conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gynaesh Kumar said the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is aimed at removing all shortcomings in voters lists and it is a matter of grave concern that some parties are spreading misinformation about it. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a rally in Bihar's Sasaram, vowed to expose any theft of votes, whether in Maharashtra, Bihar, or elsewhere in the future. "The entire country knows what the Election Commission is doing. Earlier, the country did not know how votes were being stolen. But we made it clear in the press conference how votes are being stolen. Whenever the theft is happening, whether in Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Bengal, we will catch the theft and work to show the people," Gandhi said. The Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha called the Bihar's SIR a "conspiracy" by the Election Commission. "I am telling you from this stage that Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections are being stolen in the entire country. Their latest conspiracy is to conduct SIR in Bihar and steal the Bihar elections as well by cutting the new votes and adding fake ones. All of us have come to this stage to tell you that we will not let them steal this election," Rahul Gadhi said.

‘If you're Indian, buy made-in-India products only': PM Modi to citizens ahead of festive season

With India's trade negotiations with the US going through a tumultuous period amid global turmoil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for buying products made in India in the upcoming festive season. He was speaking at the inauguration of two national highway projects in the national capital: the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II. 'I request all citizens to trust products made in India. If you're Indian, buy made-in-India products only…I want to say one thing to shopkeepers and businessmen also: there was a time when you used to sell products made elsewhere, maybe because you made more profit there. But now you also have to support my initiative of 'vocal for local',' he said. Modi also accused the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress of degrading Delhi's condition as well as of drafting draconian laws. 'For the longest time, we were not even close to power in Delhi. Previous governments have destroyed Delhi during their tenures. They had pushed Delhi into a ditch. It is very difficult to pull Delhi out of problems that have accumulated over the years. But I am confident that the BJP team you have chosen in Delhi will solve these,' he said. 'Earlier governments used to consider Swachhta Mitras their slaves. These people who dance keeping the Constitution on their head, they used to trample on it and betray the beliefs of Babasaheb,' he said. The prime minister also said he had removed a provision of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act under which a Swachhta Mitra can be imprisoned for a month if they don't come to work for one day without informing the authorities.
