By: GL Oh Text Size: The karatekas from SKA who will be taking part in the National Martial Arts Championship pose with team officials. Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) will be represented by a 22-member squad to compete in the National Martial Arts Championship at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil starting Saturday (July 26). The 12 male athletes in the team are Adlin Vince Viceroy @Irwan (cadet individual kata), Danish Rayyan Rajis (cadet Jeffisten Jeffrin (cadet -57kg), Al-Zovainz Zurizal (cadet-63kg), Leonard Vresley Binajen (cadet-70kg), Gerrard Lady Gary (cadet +70kg), Ryyen Ryye Gerrad Rojin (junior kata), Putra Rayn Nazwan Heryzwan (junior -55kg), Muhd Farish Danish Mohd Saidin (junior -61kg), Mickail Zaquan Zurizal (junior -68kg), Mohd Idzham Zairie (junior -76kg) and Ivan Nicholas Chai (junior +76kg). The females on the list are Nurrasyiqah Fari'ah Razmi (cadet individual kata), Dezzie Chell Davis (cadet -47kg), Lim Leyca (cadet (-54kg), Rose Dayan Mohd Hamli (cadet-61kg), Amirah Syahindah Azlan (cadet +61kg), Nurfarhadylia Ershan Jr (junior individual kata), Nurradhiah Fathiah Razmi (junior -48kg), Ameera Jnita Liew (junior -53kg), Audrey Adreana Baking (junior -59kg) and Nurul Afiqatul Khairiyah Jahari (junior -66kg). The two-day event also featuring silat, muaythai, wushu and wrestling is organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry through the Youth and Sports Department. SKA secretary general Julian Chin said they are not setting targets for the athletes and urged them to do their best. 'This will be another opportunity for them to gain valuable experience and I hope it will also help them to improve their skills,' he said. Tuaran: Kota Kinabalu representative Affan Affandy Sazali emerged as the Mr Sabah Champion of Champions at the Mr Sabah 2025 Bodybuilding and Physique Championship held at Dewan Seri Sulaman. The event drew 87 participants and was officiated by the representative of the Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Mohd Arziz Afizy Rumsani. Affan, who also won the Light Middleweight and Men's Athletic Physique (170cm and above) categories, will lead the Sabah contingent to the National Bodybuilding Championship, Mr Malaysia 2025, to be held in Pahang this September. Joining him to represent Sabah are winners from other categories, including Rozally Golbin (Masters 45 Years and Welterweight), Emmanuel Edeison Benedict (Junior Under 21), Mohammad Asraf Hamza (Men's Athletic Physique 170cm and below), Martin Mangalai (Flyweight), Wandy Anjum (Bantamweight), Muhammad Hakimi Abdullah (Lightweight) and Allen Carlson Aloysius Sem (Middleweight). Two female athletes, Daphne Darlene Pain and Grace Voo, will represent Sabah in the Women's Model Physique and Women's Light Heavyweight/Heavyweight categories respectively. Kota Kinabalu: Muhd Afiq Irsyad with Melvin Sikayun as his crew captured this year's International 470 Open title at the 30th Merdeka Day Open Regatta 2025 co-organised by Kinabalu Yacht Club and Sabah Sailing Association which was held in Tanjung Aru over the weekend. The pair, who were the runners-up last year, pipped Michael R Hastie/Haron Muzaffhr Abdul Aziz for the title and in third place were Jason A James/Dr Sandeep Singh Gill. In the International 420 class, the open overall title went to Danyal Marczqui Rahmat Haron Muzaffar/Muhd Husaini Mohd Rodzi followed by Wu Ming Ni/Wei Ming Yuan and Koh Yi Xuan/Kim Titus. The ILCA 7 overall title was won by Adam Iwan Carraz and in second place was Qasya Chairullah and Mohd Fadzlin Hassan in third. Mohd Syahierradham Raiman and Zeti Irdina Zainal were the top two winners in the ILCA 6 class, while the top three positions in the ILCA 4 class went to Nur Hafizanah Zail, Muhd Aiman Aqeel Mohd Firdaus and Chen Jui Hsuan. In the optimist race, Muhd Harith Qaiser Ahmad Mokhdas clinched the overall title followed by Ziqri Luqman Zainal and Muhd Abqaari Irham AdamMuhd Harith was also the winner in the optimist division B category followed by Muhd Abqaari and Andre Martin. Advertisement The division A title went to Ziqri Luqman and in second place was Liao You Shan and Chia Hsin Chiu in third, while the top three winners in division C were Kao Yu Heng, HMAD Wafiy Azzam Mohd Resal and Tsai Cheng Che. In the girls' category, Chai Hsin Chiu came in first ahead of Macy Sikayun and Izz Qaireen Chairullah, while the top three in the novice overall category went to Malique Anaqi, Bibi Mya Mohd Faizal and Nur Nazihah Amyra Jaikol. Meanwhile, the windsurf open title winner was won by Zeid Ashraf Zainal for the second year running and in second place was Zeid Ashraf Zainal. SIPITANG: A total of 68 participants, comprising sports teachers, attended the Athletics Coaching Workshop held at the Seminar Room of the Sipitang District Education Office (PPD) and the Sipitang Sports Complex, which concluded on Thursday. The programme coordinators were Jimmy Udan and Voo Sui Kiong @ Fredy. Jimmy stated that the workshop was held in conjunction with the 'Road to 27' District-Level Programme for Sipitang 2025. Its aim is to provide knowledge and skills to sports teachers in every school, with the goal of improving the performance and excellence of athletics in schools across the Sipitang district. The workshop was organised by the Sipitang District Education Office (PPD) and facilitated by coach Raynold Peter from the Humansport Athletics Club. It was officially launched by the Director of the Sabah State Sports Council, Mohd Asneh Mohd Noor, and was held over two days starting from July 30.
