Kumbh Mela body okays 1k-cr for Sadhugram land acquisition

Time of India5 days ago
Nashik: The Kumbh Mela Authority has approved an initial investment of Rs3,200 crore for the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the upcoming festival scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2028.
A substantial portion of this funding, Rs1,050 crore, is earmarked for the acquisition of additional land for Sadhugram, which is a temporary settlement for sadhus, in the Tapovan area of Nashik. While the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) already owns 100 acres in the area, it has proposed to permanently acquire the additional 250 acres to create a larger Sadhugram to accommodate the sadhus attending the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
This proposal for land acquisition now awaits final approval from state govt before the funds can be released. The approval of Rs1,000 crore specifically for this purpose was confirmed by commissioner of the Kumbh Mela Authority Karishma Nair.
Recently, municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri made a demand of Rs2,300 crore from the Kumbh Mela Authority for the acquisition of land for Sadhugram. Civic officials, while talking to TOI, said the compensation model for acquisition of the land is yet to be decided.

"There are three or four formulas for the acquisition of the land, which include 50% Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) and 50% cash as compensation to the landowners, or giving higher TDR to the farmers. Another model involves giving alternate land to the farmers elsewhere in lieu of their land at Sadhugram," a civic official said.
Last month, Khatri had presented different compensation models for the acquisition of land for Sadhugram during a meeting chaired by principal secretary to the chief minister Ashwini Bhide in Mumbai.
However, no compensation model was finalised as Bhide was not satisfied.
During the meeting, Bhide told the civic administration to study the compensation models once again and come up with a new formula.
The NMC has already declared a no-development zone on 350 acres for Sadhugram at Tapovan out of which around 100 acres are in its possession. The NMC now plans to acquire the remaining 250 acres.

Ludhiana PF office holds awareness seminar on PM Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.

Ludhiana: The newly launched Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) offers a compelling benefit of up to Rs15,000 to first-time employees in their first year, split into two instalments, creating an incentive for formal job entry and retention. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During the awareness seminar held at the provident fund (PF) office on Wednesday, regional provident fund commissioner-I Saurabh Swami spoke about the benefits of the scheme. He said he would make sure that the staff was available for resolution of any problems and address all queries at the office in Ludhiana. Under part-A of the scheme, first-time employees registered with EPFO earning up to Rs1 lakh per month will receive a one-month EPF wage, capped at Rs15,000, disbursed in two instalments. The first after six months of continuous employment, and the second after 12 months. It would also require completion of a government-mandated financial literacy programme. In addition to empowering employees financially, the scheme strengthens job stability. When workers see that formal employment comes with tangible benefits, it encourages them to stay longer, improving retention and reducing turnover, officials at the seminar stated. They said that for first-time workers receiving Rs15,000 from the government, even before tax deductions, makes formal jobs significantly more attractive. It smooths their entry into the system and gives them the security to plan ahead. The officials also outlined hiring incentives for employees as well. The PM-VBRY officially began on August 1, 2025 and will continue till July 31, 2027. With a budget of Rs 99,446 crore, the scheme aims to generate 3.5 crore new jobs, of which an estimated 1.92 crore are expected to benefit first-time job seekers, officials stated. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The seminar, attended by a number of industry and employee representatives, was designed to break down the process. By combining direct support for employees with hiring incentives for employers, PM-VBRY is designed to create a mutually beneficial cycle, motivating industries to recruit more and giving workers the assurance that their jobs come with social security, career growth opportunities, and financial protection, the officials said.

NMC to raise 400 crore via municipal & green bonds

Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now changed its fundraising strategy. Instead of taking out loans from public sector banks, the civic body now plans to raise Rs400 crore through municipal and green bonds. The NMC has submitted a proposal to state govt's urban development department for approval to issue these bonds. As per the plan, municipal bonds will be issued in the first phase, followed by green bonds in the second phase — both within the current financial year. Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri, while talking to TOI, confirmed that the earlier plan to secure loans from public sector banks has been cancelled. "We have instead opted to raise funds through municipal and green bonds. We will be raising Rs 200 crore each from municipal and green bonds. The corporation will receive incentives of over Rs 50 crore from the Centre if it raises funds through municipal and green bonds," Khatri said. "The entire Rs 400 crore will be raised in the current financial year. Initially, we will raise funds through municipal bonds and later through green bonds," she added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo The NMC has submitted a Rs15,000 crore plan to state govt for the upcoming Kumbh Mela. Nashik civic body's city bus service records highest-ever daily income of ₹44 lakh in ticket sales

The Nashik Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd, the transport wing of the Nashik Municipal Corporation , recorded an income of ₹ 44 lakh on Aug 12 (Monday) through the sale of tickets, marking the highest daily income since operations began in July 2021. Over 1.1 lakh passengers travelled by city buses on Aug 12, which was the third Monday of the Shravan month . The previous highest daily earning was ₹ 35.4 lakh, recorded on Sept 4, 2023, during the Shravan month that year. The third Shravan Somwar is a major event that attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees to Trimbakeshwar, home to one of India's 12 Jyotirlingas. Pilgrims from across the country visit the temple and take a holy dip in the Kushawarta kund. "We deployed more buses on the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar route on the occasion of the third Shravan Somwar on Aug 12, and all the buses that ran on the route were fully occupied. This is the reason the city bus service recorded the highest daily earnings through the sale of tickets with a footfall of 1.14 lakh passengers," said Pradeep Chaudhari, the additional commissioner of NMC and CEO of the NMPML. NMC took over the city bus service from the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) on July 8, 2021, deploying 27 buses on 11 routes with an initial footfall of 5,000 passengers per day and an average daily income of ₹ 1.3lakh. There has been a significant rise in passenger occupancy over the past four years. The footfall has reached an average of 70,000 passengers per day, and income has increased to an average of ₹ 21 lakh per day, according to NMC officials. Most commuters regularly use the city bus service, with some opting for buses over personal vehicles to reach their workplaces. Additionally, the number of students obtaining bus passes at concessional rates has risen in recent months. NMPML operates a total of 250 buses across the city through two private agencies on a procure, operate, and maintain basis. In addition to 60 routes, NMC operates city buses in rural areas such as Trimbakeshwar, Pimpalgaon, Sinnar, Ozar, Sayyad Pimpri, Mohadi, Saikheda, and other nearby rural destinations, covering nearly 27 bus terminals, two bus depots, and 1,440 bus stops in both urban and nearby rural areas.
