Abilene police investigate missing person's case
The Abilene Police Department is investigating a missing Abilene man who was last seen Thursday.
Jeremy Neves, 25, was last seen leaving Guitars and Cadillacs, 3881 Vine St., in a light tan 2002 Oldsmobile Alero, according to a relative's Facebook post.
There has been no cell phone activity since that time, and Neves's family has made efforts to check hospitals and correctional facilities and has submitted a missing person's report, the April 5 post said.
Rick Tomlin, APD public information coordinator, said a family member contacted police on April 4, reporting that Neves did not show up to work and they could not get in contact with him.
Neves' family has kept in contact with the police department, Tomlin said.
APD's youth division detectives are aware of this case and are in charge of the investigation, Tomlin said.

Liberia's ex-speaker charged with arson over parliament fire
Liberia's former speaker of parliament has been charged with arson over a fire at the nation's House of Representatives, local police have said. The huge blaze broke out last December, a day after plans to remove Jonathan Fonati Koffa from his role as speaker sparked protests in the capital, Monrovia. Koffa had been locked in a stand-off with his political opponents, with dozens of lawmakers voting for his impeachment in October over accusations of poor governance, corruption and conflicts of interest. Police said on Friday that there were "credible links" to suggest Koffa was "strategically involved" in the incident. Five other lawmakers have also been detained in connection to the case. Koffa has previously denied any connection to the fire breaking out. Police chief Gregory Colman said Koffa had been charged with a string of offences including arson, criminal mischief, endangering other people, and attempted murder. Colman said Koffa had used his office and staff "to co-ordinate sabotage efforts from as early as November 2023", according to news agency AFP. Koffa and several other lawmakers were summoned to the Liberian National Police headquarters on Friday as "persons of interest" in the case, local media reports. The former speaker and three sitting members of the House of Representatives were then remanded to Monrovia Central Prison on Saturday, newspaper FrontPage Africa reported. The blaze on 18 December 2024 destroyed the entire joint chambers of the West African nation's legislature. No one was inside the building at the time. The day before had seen tense protests over the plans to remove Koffa, with demonstrators including an aide to former President George Weah arrested. Several individuals, including Koffa and Representative Frank Saah Foko, were brought in for questioning by police. Foko, a prominent figure in the House of Representatives, allegedly uploaded a video to Facebook in which he said: "If they want us to burn the chambers, we will burn it." A team of independent US investigators brought in to assist the investigation concluded that the fire was set deliberately. Liberia's House of Representatives has been beset by a long-running power struggle. Although the bid to impeach Koffa fell short of the two-thirds majority required, the group of 47 lawmakers who had voted for the move unilaterally appointed their own speaker. Moped rider seriously hurt in hit-and-run crash
A moped rider has been seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash with a car. Leicestershire Police said he was involved in a head-on crash with the car in East Park Road, Leicester, shortly after 12:00 BST on Friday. Detectives said the car, believed to be a green Mercedes E-Class, left without stopping and they are now trying to find the driver. The moped rider, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital where he remained on Saturday, a spokesperson added. Officers said it was thought the car left the area along East Park Road towards St Saviour's Road. They have appealed to anyone who saw the crash, which happened near the junction with Blanklyn Avenue, to contact them. Both were loaded with 40-round magazines, including a drum and an extended stick, Bouchard said. The guns were not registered. Officials "probably prevented a mass shooting" in Pontiac, Bouchard said in a June 6 news conference. Sheriff's deputies were originally called out after reports of a brawl breaking out, but were told by an individual at the event that rumors of threats about a possible shooting were circulating on social media, according to Bouchard. Two people, ages 19 and 20, have been taken into custody, officials said. Neither was a graduating student but had disputes with others at the Arts and Technology Academy of Pontiac, which had its graduation on June 3, at the United Wholesale Mortgage sports complex. The motive behind the incident wasn't clear, Bouchard said. In a Facebook post, the Arts and Technology Academy said a "brief physical altercation" took place inside the venue that was handled by staff and security. The people were removed from the event and the commencement continued without disruption. Afterward, the altercation continued away from the venue, the school said. As deputies investigated, they learned those in the fight had been seen placing a packages under cars at the sports complex's parking lot, Bouchard said. The package, a backpack, turned out to have a weapon, Bouchard said. Another weapon was also recovered. A yet-to-be named 19-year-old suspect was in custody and is expected to face charges. A second suspect, Jamarion Hardiman, 20, was also taken into custody. Hardiman was on probation for a weapons offense, Bouchard said. Oakland County experienced a mass shooting in 2021.
