Roya Media Group sounds alarm as its Gaza journalists face starvation under siege

Roya News19 hours ago
Roya Media Group expresses its deep concern over the catastrophic and unparalleled humanitarian conditions facing its journalistic team in the Gaza Strip. These conditions are the result of the ongoing brutal assault by the Israeli Occupation forces, with direct support from the United States, and a suffocating siege that has led to widespread famine, the depletion of basic food supplies, and severe malnutrition among team members.
Roya's correspondent in Gaza, Ghazi Al-Aloul, said that the entire team is suffering from the direct effects of famine. He reported: "Famine has spread across the entire Strip and reached us after our supplies of flour, canned goods, and vegetables ran out. Since the war resumed, we haven't had access to meat or poultry. Our daily meal, if available, now consists of lentils only, and sometimes nothing for days."
"To prevent intestinal decay, we have resorted to drinking only saltwater," he added.
Aloul continued: "Over the past month, I've lost 20 kilograms, and my colleague, cameraman Mohammed Daher, has lost a similar amount. We are forced to walk more than 12 kilometers each day to and from our workplace, with no transportation available. This has accelerated the deterioration of our physical and mental health."
Roya's team continues to work in areas classified as 'red zones' on evacuation maps, having been forcibly displaced more than 16 times since the start of the war. They now have no safe shelter or option to relocate. The team faces daily threats amidst disturbing international silence and the clear complicity of parties supporting the ongoing assault.
Roya Media Group holds the Israeli Occupation authorities and their primary supporter, the United States of America, fully and directly responsible for any harm to its staff, whether through targeting, starvation, or obstruction of their professional and humanitarian duties.
The ongoing acts of collective starvation, forced displacement, and systematic targeting of civilians - including journalists - in Gaza constitute an act of genocide, carried out by the Israeli Occupation with explicit US backing, in grave violation of international humanitarian law and all human rights conventions.
We call on the United Nations, global journalism organizations, and human rights and humanitarian institutions to urgently intervene to protect journalists and ensure the immediate entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza; including food, medicine, and basic life necessities. Starving journalists and forcing them to work under inhumane conditions is a dual violation of human rights and press freedom, and must not be met with silence or indifference from the international community.
Despite immense risks and daily suffering, Roya's team continues to fulfill its humanitarian and professional duty to report the truth from the heart of the catastrophe. We salute their courage and sacrifices and emphasize that the world's silence is not neutrality, it is complicity in an ongoing crime that must not be ignored.

More than 100 NGOs warn 'mass starvation' spreading across Gaza

More than 100 aid organisations and human rights groups warned on Wednesday that "mass starvation" was spreading in Gaza, as the United States said its top envoy was heading to Europe for talks on a possible ceasefire and aid corridor. 'Israel' is facing mounting international pressure over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, where more than two million people are facing severe shortages of food and other essentials after 21 months of war. But it denied blocking supplies, announcing that 950 trucks' worth of aid were in Gaza and waiting for international agencies to collect and distribute it. "We have not identified starvation at this current point in time but we understand that action is required to stabilise the humanitarian situation," an unnamed senior 'Israeli' security official was quoted as saying by the Times of Israel. On the ground, the 'Israeli' military said it was operating in Gaza City and the north, and claimed it had hit dozens of "terror targets" across the Palestinian territory. Gaza's civil defence agency told AFP that 'Israeli' strikes killed 10 people overnight. 'Wasting away' The United Nations said on Tuesday that 'Israeli' forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food since the US- and 'Israel'-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) started operations in late May -- effectively sidelining the longstanding UN-led system. A statement with 111 signatories, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Save the Children and Oxfam, warned that "our colleagues and those we serve are wasting away". The groups called for an immediate negotiated ceasefire, the opening of all land crossings and the free flow of aid through UN-led mechanisms. The United States said its envoy Steve Witkoff will head to Europe this week for talks on Gaza and may then visit the Middle East. Witkoff comes with "a strong hope that we will come forward with another ceasefire as well as a humanitarian corridor for aid to flow, that both sides have in fact agreed to," State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce told reporters. Even after 'Israel' began easing a more than two-month aid blockade in late May, Gaza's population is still suffering extreme scarcities. 'Israel' claims humanitarian aid is being allowed into Gaza and accuses Hamas of exploiting civilian suffering, including by stealing food handouts to sell at inflated prices or shooting at those awaiting aid. GHF said in a statement that the United Nations, which refuses to work with it, "has a capacity and operational problem" and called for "more collaboration" to deliver life-saving aid. 'Hope and heartbreak' In their statement, the humanitarian organisations said warehouses with tonnes of supplies were sitting untouched just outside the territory, and even inside, as they were blocked from delivering the goods. "Palestinians are trapped in a cycle of hope and heartbreak, waiting for assistance and ceasefires, only to wake up to worsening conditions," the signatories said. "It is not just physical torment, but psychological. Survival is dangled like a mirage," they added. "The humanitarian system cannot run on false promises. Humanitarians cannot operate on shifting timelines or wait for political commitments that fail to deliver access." UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the "horror" facing Palestinians in Gaza under 'Israeli' military attack was unprecedented in recent years. The head of Gaza's largest hospital said Tuesday that 21 children had died due to malnutrition and starvation in the Palestinian territory over the previous three days. Mediators have been shuttling between 'Israeli' and Hamas negotiators in Doha since July 6 in search of an elusive truce, with expectations that Witkoff would join the talks as they entered their final stages.

Hamas issues statement on progress of Gaza ceasefire talks

The Palestinian resistance group Hamas issued a statement on Monday affirming that it is making continuous efforts to end the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as the 'Israeli' military intensifies what the group described as a campaign of 'genocidal war' against the Palestinian people. In the statement, Hamas said the group's leadership is working around the clock with mediators, states, and all concerned parties to stop the famine and bring an end to the ongoing 'Israeli' assault on Gaza. It emphasized that alleviating the suffering of the population is a top priority for the movement. Hamas also accused the Israeli Occupation of using massacres as a form of pressure to extract political concessions, calling it a desperate attempt to achieve what 'Israel' has failed to gain at the negotiation table. The group stressed that it remains committed to acting responsibly and rationally, and that it is working 'as quickly as possible' to conclude consultations with Palestinian factions. The goal, according to the statement, is to reach an honorable agreement that ends the aggression, halts the genocide, facilitates reconstruction, lifts the blockade, and ensures a dignified life for the people of Gaza.
