Nagpur: The traffic department of the city police has once again intensified their
Footpath Freedom drive
and took actions against 2,233 encroachments and
illegal parking
across all 10 zones of traffic police in city. These actions were taken between May 6 and 10.The traffic department launched the Footpath Freedom drive on January 17 this year following several complaints of encroachment and illegal parking on city footpaths, which led to accidents as pedestrians were forced to walk on the streets.
The issue was also raised multiple times by Union minister Nitin Gadkari. Following this, the traffic department, under DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak, launched the Footpath Freedom drive. By May 5, the traffic department took around 20,447 actions. However, encroachments on footpaths started again, so the traffic department intensified their drive once more.Out of all ten traffic zones, the highest number of actions were taken in the Sitabuldi zone (469), followed by Sadar (349) and Sakkardara (296). Interestingly, the Indora and MIDC traffic zones reported the least number of actions, with 100 each. The traffic department has warned encroachers, hawkers, and citizens involved in illegal parking on footpaths that strict action would be taken against them under relevant sections of the law.According to citizens, every time the traffic department or Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officials take action against the encroachers, they flee but return after officials leave. In the recent actions, the traffic department targeted areas such as Sitabuldi market, collector office road, VCA Square, multiple locations in Sadar, Railway Station Road, Tukdoji Square, Jadu Mahal Road, and other locations in the city. The traffic department also used bulldozers to remove permanent encroachments.

Instead, he suggested that such land be provided on lease, allowing tribal families to retain their rights and connection to their land.

Stalin raking up delimitation issue to cover up his failures, says Union minister L Murugan
Coimbatore: Union minister of state L Murugan on Saturday said chief minister M K Stalin was raising the issue of delimitation of parliamentary constituencies to cover up the failures of his regime. He urged Stalin to focus on running the govt properly, instead of misleading the people. Addressing the media at the city airport, Murugan said the DMK govt had increased the electricity tariff and property tax and was involved in the Tasmac scam. "Is the chief minister running the govt or are his young brothers running the show? The CM has made it a habit to blame the Union govt to cover up his govt's failures. A caste-wise census has already been conducted in Bihar and Telangana. Stalin has no intention of conducting such a census in Tamil Nadu. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that a caste-wise census will be conducted across the country, and he is a true leader of social justice," Murugan said. He said the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies was never discussed in parliament. The Prime Minister clearly stated that the constituencies would be restructured without harming anyone or any state, he said.

Mandya: Union minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday expressed anger against govt, advising them to learn to give proper value to human lives. Expressing sorrow over two incidents of the death of girl children in Mandya, Kumaraswamy blamed govt's negligence for the death of a girl in the hospital and the traffic police's carelessness, which led to another girl's death. He expressed grief at the MySugar School's Amrit Mahotsav programme on Saturday. Criticising govt, he said, "It is not possible to measure every life with money as govt is compensating for the death of humans by providing money." The Union minister became emotional and was in tears while addressing the gathering during the event. Speaking about death, Kumaraswamy said emotionally, "Before I die, I will repay your debt. I don't need recognition for my achievements. The place you have given me in your hearts is enough. May this love and trust always remain with me".
