ITV chiefs are plotting a bloodbath on their two flagship soaps by axing one in ten cast members in the latest round of savage cost-cutting.
Proposed plans also include slashing the number of scenes per episode for Coronation Street and Emmerdale — after the broadcaster announced it is cutting a further £15million from its total budget.

ITV chiefs are plotting a bloodbath on their two flagship soaps, one of which is Emmerdale
ITV's profits have slumped by 44 per cent to £99million for the first six months of this year.
Now insiders have revealed executives are putting pressure on their top soaps to slash their spiralling budgets, cutting the soaps' cast lists by ten per cent.
Coronation Street has 84 permanent cast members and Emmerdale has 70.
Staffing on both soaps has risen rapidly in recent years, with many actors guaranteed a minimum number of episodes and episode fees per year.
It is also suggested scenes per episode could be cut.
Both soaps have about 20 scenes per show. And the number of cast used each episode could also be trimmed.
A soap source said: 'It's brutal. We've known it was on the cards for a while, but they're really cranking it up now and it's across the soaps.
They're looking to save millions and Corrie and Emmerdale are the obvious places. They're very expensive shows.
'Many who have been there for a long time are reliant on their income staying as it is.
'The amount of cast has spiralled out of control and focusing on dialogue, not action, could also save money.'
Coronation Street and Emmerdale announce huge 'crossover' special episode in UK soap first
Some older cast members have full-time contracts with a salary, but the majority are paid by the episode.
It comes amid cuts across the ITV daytime schedule, with hundreds of staff axed from Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women.
ITV said of the proposals: 'This is complete speculation.'

Channel 4's 'nerve-shedding' thriller is to take viewers on a rollercoaster
Buckle up, because Channel 4 is about to drop a 'heart-pounding' new thriller with a national treasure of a lead star. From the makers of Slow Horses, In Flight will hit screens in a matter of weeks, with none other than Katherine Kelly taking the lead. The former Coronation Street actress is a failsafe when it comes to TV dramas these days, having played huge roles in The Long Shadow, Happy Valley, and the highly decorated Mr Bates vs the Post Office, to name just a few. But now, her work sees her take to the skies for a crime drama that will, quite literally, have you gasping for breath. In the series directed by Chris Baugh, Kelly plays a flight attendant named Jo Conran whose son has been arrested and locked up in Bulgaria. The teenager is sentenced to 15 years behind bars, catapulting Jo into a terrifying criminal underworld as she entangles herself with a gang that has inside knowledge of his case. As her mundane life very quickly starts to spiral, the single mother is blackmailed into drug smuggling, while her son maintains his innocence after being accused of murder. With fast-paced storytelling and a high-pressure backdrop, the six-parter is guaranteed to get your mind racing and chest tightening, as Jo goes to extremes to protect her boy, making impossible choices along the way. Speaking ahead of the show's summer release, as shooting took place last November, Innocent actress Kelly, 45, said: 'I am really excited to be taking on the role of Jo, and I can't wait to tell her compelling story. 'I am delighted to be working with Buccaneer Media again, and it's a joy to be filming in Belfast.' And when the former soap star announced her latest role on social media and shared a preview pic of herself in character aboard the aircraft, fans were quick to express their own excitement. 'Will definitely be watching!', commented Instagram user @cheekychic_biarritz. 'I cannot wait to watch this!!!! 👏👏', wrote @rachelemmawoodington. 'Katherine is a absolutely amazing actor 👌❤️🎥 [sic]', added @superfitguy. As well as Kelly, the cast comprises historical drama star Stuart Martin as gang member Cormac, star of Netflix's Hostage, Ashley Thomas as London airport customs officer Dom, and The Fall's Bronagh Waugh as Melanie. Rising star Harry Cadby also plays Sonny, Heartstopper's Corinna Brown portrays Kayla, and Black Mirror star Ambreen Razia is Zara. As for the behind-the-camera crew, there are plenty of established names on board, assuring viewers that they are in safe hands. The series is written and co-created by Mike Walden, who worked on Marcella and Whitstable Pearl, and Adam Randall of Slow Horses and iBoy. In a teasy statement, the pair called In Flight '[their] spin on the noir genre, a high-stakes, stylish, romantic thriller with iconic characters and nerve-shredding action.' They added: 'Jo is a character close to our hearts. She is an ordinary woman facing extraordinary odds. We can't wait for audiences to meet her.' Rebecca Dundon, Executive Producer at production company Fremantle, also called the drama 'a surprising, propulsive standout—a high-stakes action crime thriller that combines the intensity of international drug smuggling with the emotional depth of a mother's relentless quest to save her son'. More Trending 'Set against the high-pressure world of global travel, this series offers a fresh, commercially powerful mix of suspense, sacrifice, and gripping drama,' she promised. 'I couldn't put the script down, and audiences everywhere will feel the same.' Gabby Logan recalls crushing low point after brutal Strictly Come Dancing exit
Gabby Logan has cast her mind back to her experiences on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing - and admits she was left fearing the nation hated her as she failed to secure votes Gabby Logan has candidly reflected on a time she felt she was deeply unpopular. The 52-year-old radio and television presenter is best known for hosting sports programs for the BBC, ITV and Channel 5. In August this year, she will land arguably her biggest job to date - as a new host of Match of the Day following the exit of controversial footballer Gary Lineker. But it is not just giving her two pence about on-pitch action that has drawn attention to Gabs. She has also enjoyed a foray into the world of competitive reality shows - popping up to present shows like the diving competition Splash! and celebrity sheep herding show Flockstars. Back in 2007, however, Gabby stepped out from behind her presenting lectern to be a contestants on hit show Strictly Come Dancing. The star was partnered with professional dancer James Jordan and, being season five of the long-running show, this was the time when Tess Daly and the late Sir Bruce Forsyth were hosts of the show. The judging panel consisted of Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and the late Len Goodman. While Gabby made it through three rounds of the show before she was voted off, she is convinced that she became a hate figure during her time on the ballroom floor. She featured on the series at the same time as her husband, Kenny Logan - was also competing with Gabby's dance partner James' wife Ola Jordan. Wales Online quotes Gabby saying: "I had an amazing experience on Strictly, I was only on it for a few weeks, but I had an amazing experience — but also, a kind of life-changing experience in many ways." She elaborated: "[It] sounds a bit dramatic, and you hear people going 'Strictly changed my life', but this wasn't in a good way." Giving more clarity, she went on: "When you get voted out of Strictly, it's so shocking, because you go in every week starting to work on your following week's dance, and you don't expect to go home." And she revealed she was left being "very much aware that people didn't like" her during her time on the show. She also told Jessica Ennis on the Gold Minds podcast: "It was the fact that obviously people didn't vote for me — and it sounds a bit pathetic — but you realise when it's a reality show that it's about whether people like you. And I was very much aware that people didn't like me. "I was kind of like, they didn't like me enough to vote for me... It was a very sobering kind of experience because in the days afterwards, not only was I dreadfully missing the dancing, but also realising I kind of felt like, 'Oh, what was it about me that people didn't relate to?'" While Gabby and James crashed out in week four, her rugby star husband managed to make it through five more weeks before he too was voted off. Their season was awash with big name star - with Sir Rod Stewart's wife, Penny Lancaster, acting legend Stephanie Beacham, and model bombshell Kelly Brook were among those taking to the dance floor. The finalists that season included EastEnders star Matt Di Angelo and TV presenter Gethin Jones. While Mis-Teeq singer Alesha Dixon proved to be the victor of the show - and later became a judge on the series before being poached to judge on Britain's Got Talent.

Coronation Street's Helen Flanagan shows off painful 'black eye' after surgery
Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan - who played Rosie Webster on the ITV soap - showed off her 'black eye' after undergoing cosmetic surgery Helen Flanagan has shown off her 'black eyes' after undergoing cosmetic surgery. The Coronation Street star - who played Rosie Webster in the ITV soap - was seen sporting some bruising around her eye in a new post on social media. The Corrie star has been open about the surgery she has undergone, which at times she has been heavily criticised for. She opened up in 2022 about undergoing a breast enhancement and said it really helped her to get her confidence back. Speaking a few years back, she said of her decision: "I was quite open here on Instagram in January about my recent boob job. This was something I wanted to do for a really long time and by doing so I've really got my confidence back. "I breastfed in total for three years. Matilda I fed for eight months. Delilah I fed for 13 months. Charlie I fed for 14 months. As soon as I finished my breastfeeding journey with Charlie I wanted to get them done pretty much straight away. I felt like you could tie them in a bow. I had to wait though for six months after feeding and then I went for it in January." She added: "I don't regret one second of my breastfeeding journeys they were precious times. I was a little bit nervous I was worried they were going to be too big for my frame but they are so perfect for me and so in proportion." As part of her latest treatment, Helen underwent polynucleotide cosmetic facial surgery in her latest procedure. It is a type of cosmetic surgery, which uses DNA fragments to help to rejuvenate and revitalise the skin. It gives a youthful and radiant complexion but can initially cause redness, swelling and bruising where they are injected. In 2019, Helen also decided to have Botox and explained how it has made her feel more confident. "I felt super tired from having Delilah and I wanted to feel fresher and more confident in myself. I would take pictures on my phone with the kids and would be shocked how much older I looked where in my head I still feel like I'm 20," she said. "I'm so happy with my Botox and if you're like me and still want to look 23, then it's a good idea." Just a few weeks ago, Helen recalled how she was verbally abused by a man on the Tube for standing up for another woman. She explained how the woman had been harassed by the man and when she stood up for the woman, she was verbally abused too. "He was really awful and I actually felt really intimidated, and I felt like I couldn't say much to him because I did feel really intimidated by him. He said to me, it was like the weirdest thing he could have said, 'You've got so much Botox in your forehead', and I was sat there with an iced coffee, and he was like, 'I'm surprised you can even drink through a straw,'" she recalled.
