A DigiYatra facility was inaugurated at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport on Thursday, marking a significant stride in contactless travel.
The service is specifically designed to streamline the experience for domestic transfer passengers.
The facility was inaugurated by passengers in the presence of PR Beuria, Airport Director, Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with other senior AAI officials.
The DigiYatra facility was first officially launched for general domestic passengers at the Kolkata airport on March 31, 2023.
Kolkata was part of the second phase of DigiYatra implementation in India, following the initial launch at Delhi, Bengaluru, and Varanasi airports in December 2022.

Digi Yatra gets more patronage at Coimbatore International Airport

The patronage for Digi Yatra, a facial recognition-based check-in and boarding service, has gained more patronage from passengers at the Coimbatore International Airport. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) sources said that 20 % of passengers are using the facility, which offers seamless and paperless entry, at the Coimbatore airport. The current average patronage is more than the 10% target set by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The facility was implemented about a year ago and the patronage increased in a phased manner. Various awareness activities are also done to promote its usage. At present, the Coimbatore airport has three check-in e-gates dedicated for Digi Yatra. After entering the terminal, there are two e-gates for security check and one for boarding. AAI sources added that staff of an agency that handles Digi Yatra operation are ready to help passengers to use the facial recognition technology-based system, if they find it difficult. To use the facility, passengers need to install Digi Yatra app on their smartphones and register themselves by providing personal details, identification credentials like Aadhaar and upload a selfie to create a Digi Yatra ID, which can be used while booking tickets. Boarding pass or e-ticket need to be uploaded on the app before a journey. The travel document needs to be scanned at the check-in e-gate where the facial recognition system will verify the passenger. Credentials given to generate Digi Yatra ID will also be matched by the system with travel documents and facial recognition to give clearance. After the check-in, passengers will be directed to the e-gates for security check and for boarding.

Mangaluru International Airport gets Level 4 accreditation in customer experience

The Airports Council International (ACI) has awarded the Level 4 accreditation in Airport Customer Experience to Mangaluru International Airport (MIA). Stating that the airport has achieved a significant milestone in its journey towards excellence in customer service, the MIA, in a release, said the accreditation follows the airport's attainment of Level 3 accreditation in February 2024. The ACI Airport Customer Experience Accreditation programme is the first global initiative focused on advancing customer experience management within the airport industry. The accreditation issued by ACI on July 16 is valid for one year. The level of accreditation serves as a critical foundation, demonstrating robust customer-centric practices that are essential for progressing to Level 5, the highest standard of excellence. It validates an organisation's readiness to adopt and sustain the strategic, enterprise-wide transformation required at Level 5. The MIA said the accreditation places the airport among a select group of airports worldwide, showing an exceptional dedication to enhancing the passenger experience across all touchpoints. The accreditation evaluates multiple parameters, including airport culture, governance, operational improvement, measurement, customer strategy, and customer understanding. Over the past year, the Mangaluru International Airport has implemented a slew of initiatives focused on technological innovation, infrastructure development, and improved passenger engagement. These efforts have significantly enhanced both the travel experience and operational efficiency. They include introduction of the aviio App for airport stakeholders, launch of Digi Yatra, deployment of smart cleaning robots within the terminal, AI-based surveillance cameras for enhanced safety and project monitoring, launch of the Adani OneApp to unify and enhance passenger experience, free Wi-Fi kiosks, and flight information display system. An MIA spokesperson said, 'The accreditation is a testament to the dedication of our entire team and our unwavering focus on providing a seamless, comfortable, and memorable journey for every traveller.'

Mangaluru Airport Gets ACI Level 4 Nod for Customer Experience

Mangaluru, Jul 26: Mangaluru International Airport has received the coveted Level 4 accreditation for Airport Customer Experience from Airports Council International (ACI), marking a significant stride in its transformation into a modern aviation hub. This latest recognition, valid for one year from July 16, comes after the airport achieved Level 3 status in February 2024. ACI's globally benchmarked programme evaluates how well airports manage and improve customer experience through a range of parameters — from strategic planning to technology, operational improvement, and staff training. The accreditation places Mangaluru among a small group of international airports with demonstrated excellence in passenger engagement and service delivery. Key to this upgrade was the airport's adoption of digital innovation tools such as the Adani OneApp, Digi Yatra integration, AI-driven surveillance cameras, smart terminal cleaning robots, and the aviio App for airport stakeholders. The addition of free Wi-Fi kiosks and advanced flight information systems have also contributed to the improved passenger experience. 'Our aim has always been to enhance traveller satisfaction through seamless service. This recognition is a testament to our commitment to excellence and a great motivation for the journey ahead,' said a spokesperson for the airport. The Level 4 certification also indicates that the airport is prepared for the systemic transformation necessary to reach Level 5 — the highest honour in ACI's customer experience accreditation system.
