Tyson Fury set for comeback as hopes renewed for Oleksandr Usyk trilogy
Fury has been out of action since suffering a second defeat to Usyk in October last year, later announcing plans to retire in early 2025.
However, after months of speculation, it seems the Gypsy King is preparing for a comeback. Saudi boxing chief Turki Al-Sheikh confirmed Fury's return via social media, posting: "The 'Gypsy King' will be back!!! I talked with him, and I have his word to have him in Riyadh Season in 2026... We have a rabbit to hunt!"
Fury quickly shared the post on his own Instagram story, adding the caption: "Let's see what 2026 brings," accompanied by dollar signs and laughing emojis.
Rabbit is the nickname Fury has given Usyk ahead of both of their fights, with Usyk winning both encounters on the judges' scorecards. Those were the first blots on the Brit's perfect record which saw him win the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles.
That second loss saw the 36-year-old confirm another retirement from the sport - having done so on several occasions in the past.
"I'm going to make this short and sweet, I'd like to announce my retirement from boxing," he said back in January. "It's been a blast, I've loved every single minute of it and I'm going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side."
That announcement seemed to finally end hopes of Fury coming up against Anthony Joshua in what would likely be the biggest bout in British boxing history. Joshua himself hasn't fought since being beaten by Daniel Dubois in September, who fights Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight crown on July 19.
And once his return to the sport is officially confirmed, he has been promised an immediate crack at becoming a world champion again. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman recently stated a title shot would be waiting for him...if he comes back to the ring.
Speaking to Action Network, Sulaiman said:'If Tyson decides to come back to boxing, he always has a door open with the WBC. He will always be number one so absolutely (we will give him a world title shot if he returns) because he is top of the top.
"He carried boxing through the dark times of the pandemic and Tyson is the one who elevated the sport and he's the one who got Saudi Arabia to look into boxing."
As for a fight with AJ, Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn has attempted to quicken negotiations, revealing it's likely that 2026 will likely be Joshua's final year as a professional boxer.
Speaking last month on The Ariel Helwani show, he said: "Probably 2026 will be his last year in the sport. I mean you never know, but thinking about it, it's probably three fights away. If I'm advising AJ I'm thinking, 'We're back this year, two Tyson Fury fights, what else is there to do?'
"He maybe could fight a Daniel Dubois, but I think for me, once AJ fights a Tyson Fury, he's kind of done it all. I'd love him to have another crack at Dubois, I'd love him to have another crack at [Oleksandr] Usyk.
"If we get to 2026 and he's firing on all cylinders then 2026 won't be his last year. But for me, something feels right about beating Tyson Fury twice and then sailing off into the sunset."

First picture of Diogo Jota's car after Liverpool ace tragically dies in fire
Harrowing pictures have emerged showing the car wreckage in which Diogo Jota and his brother died. The Liverpool striker, 28, was killed in a car crash on Thursday along with his brother Andre, 26. The tragic incident occurred around 00:30 local time in the Spanish province of Zamora. Police stated that their vehicle – a Lamborghini – veered off the road following a tyre blowout while they were overtaking another car. The vehicle then went up in flames, with pictures revealing the terrifying aftermath. Fire services were called to the scene to extinguish the blaze, which reportedly spread to nearby vegetation. Despite their efforts, they could not rescue the lives of the two professional footballers. El Pais has reported that the extent of the fire damage made it impossible to perform the tests needed to confirm beyond any doubt that the deceased were the Portugal international player and his brother. The accident occurred just 11 days after Jota's wedding to his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso. His final Instagram post, shared mere hours before the accident, was a heartfelt video montage of their wedding day, featuring their three children, captioned: "A day we will never forget," accompanied by a love heart emoji. Having been together since 2012, they became engaged in July 2022 after the former Wolves striker proposed at a scenic lakeside location. And just days before his untimely death, Rute and Jota had posted photos of their wedding ceremony, which took place in a church last month in their native Portugal. Rute wrote: "Yes to forever. My dream came true," while her husband added: "I'm the lucky one." Jota signed for Liverpool in 2020, where he quickly became a fan favourite at Anfield due to his decisive goals, including nine last season that aided the Reds in securing the Premier League title. He netted a total of 65 goals in 182 appearances for the Anfield side. He also represented Portugal as they triumphed over Spain in the final of the Nations League in June. Jota had been enjoying his summer holiday ahead of his return to Liverpool for pre-season training. An official statement from his club read: 'Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre. 'Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support.'

Diogo Jota's goodbye to 'best friend' Kelleher at Liverpool before tragic end
Diogo Jota has bid a heartfelt farewell to his "best friend" in the Liverpool squad following the forward's tragic passing in a car accident. The football community is in mourning after the 28 year old Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, aged 26, were killed in Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning. The Spanish Civil Guard reported that the brothers were discovered deceased after their vehicle left the road near Zamora. Liverpool expressed being "devastated" by the news, describing it as an "unimaginable loss". The Portuguese Football Federation also expressed its devastation upon hearing about the siblings' demise, stating: "Their deaths represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football." Police said no other vehicles were involved in the incident and believe the crash was caused by a tyre blowout while overtaking. Jota was part of Liverpool's Premier League-winning side in the 2024/25 campaign, scoring six goals in 26 appearances. He was a popular player among his team-mates and the club's fans. He struck up a particularly close bond with goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who sealed an £18million move to Brentford earlier this summer. Jota was sad to see the Irishman leave Anfield, posting a picture of the pair on Instagram with the Premier League trophy. He captioned the picture: "All the best my friend! You'll be missed," with a raised-hands celebration emoji. Previously quizzed on who his best friend in the squad was, Jota, revealed in 2024: "Nowadays I would say Caoimhin. There have been a few departing the squad. "We play a quiz game, we play each other. There is one on the match day program. It is a good way to start the match day action." Liverpool issued the following statement after Jota's death was confirmed: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre. "Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, team-mates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss. We will continue to provide them with our full support." The Portuguese national team said in a statement: "Diogo Jota was not only a fantastic player with almost 50 caps for the national team, but also an extraordinary person who was respected by all his teammates and opponents. He had a contagious joy and was a reference point in his own community." Jota married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, in Portugal on June 22, just 11 days before the accident. The couple had three children together.
