Lucknow: Love, loss and haunting legacy were brought to theatrical life as the play "Makan Number 7 Manali", directed by Subhadip Raha, was staged at the Sangeet Natak Academy on Monday.
The play was an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's "John Gabriel Borkman" and captured the journey of an unconventional family wading its way through difficult relationships and the relentless waves of life.
Set in 1996 Manali, the psychological thriller revolves around Vikram, a once-successful businessman who now lives in isolation on the upper floor of his Manali home after his chit fund company became embroiled in financial scandal.
His estranged wife Chandra lives downstairs and blames him for shattering their family. Isha, Vikram's former lover and Chandra's sister, is terminally ill and wishes for Raj–her son with Vikram–to stay with her.
Raj is caught in the emotional crossfire, seeking his own identity amid the family turmoil.
On both days, the stage was home to impactful dialogues, stellar acting, fitting set design and music, and expressive dance sequences that added to the emotional depth. The play balanced the thematic intensity with moments of comic relief, keeping the riveted audience on the edge of their seats.

Agency: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) Rajinikanth-starrer 'Coolie" is set to release in worldwide theatres on August 14, the makers announced on Saturday. Lokesh Kanagaraj, known for helming the projects such as 'Kaithi", 'Master" and 'Vikram", has directed the film. It is backed by production house Sun Pictures. The upcoming film, which also stars Aamir Khan and Nagarjuna, promises a 'barrel-blazing action sequences, volcanic confrontations, whistle-worthy monologues, and explosive visuals," according to a press release. The makers released the trailer of the film on Saturday evening on its X handle and confirmed the release date in the caption. 'Deva Countdown Starts! The most-anticipated #CoolieTrailer is out now! #Coolie releasing worldwide August 14th," read the caption of the post. 'Coolie", which marks Rajinikanth's 171st film, also features Sathyaraj, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan, in pivotal roles. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music for the film. Rajinikanth's last film is 'Vettaiyan". Released in October 2024, the film was directed by T J Gnanavel and also starred Manju Warrier and Ritika Singh. Rajinikanth's Coolie is one of the most awaited films of the year. On Saturday, the makers, Sun Pictures, dropped the official trailer of the film. The action-packed trailer gave fans a better glimpse of Rajinikanth's character Deva, who is a smuggler on a path of vengeance. Dripping in style and a thumping score by Anirudh Ravichander, the Coolie trailer promises a giant entertainer from Lokesh Kanagaraj. Coolie trailer The trailer finally gives a proper glimpse into the underbelly of crime and smuggling in which Rajinkanth makes a dashing entry as the ageing smuggler Deva. Reacting to the trailer, a fan commented, 'Goosebumps! Cannot wait for August 14!' Another said, "Lokesh + Anirudh + Rajini = Blockbuster." About Coolie Coolie will not be a part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which has the films Kaithi, Vikram and Leo. Coolie is Lokesh's first film with Rajinikanth. Ahead of the release, the Central Board of Film Certification awarded the film an A certificate. Earlier this month, the synopsis of the film was revealed on Letterboxd and Fandango. The synopsis on the platform reads, 'An aging gold smuggler uses stolen tech hidden in vintage golden watches to revive his old mafia crew. But his plan to reclaim his empire spirals into something bigger, a new universe forged from crime, greed, and broken time.' Coolie will release in theatres on 14 August and clash with Ayan Mukherji's Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR-starrer War 2.
