Threatening graffiti found near Jagannath Temple, Puri Police on high alert
An unknown person has written 'Terrorist will destroy the Temple' in Odia language on two locations of the wall of Budhi Maa Thakurani temple, located on the southern side of the temple near Balisahi entrance of the Puri Parikrama Prakalpa marg (Heritage Corridor) in the holy coastal town.
The graffiti also contained the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some unverified phone numbers.
Speaking to media persons, Pinak Mishra, DIG-Cum- Superintendent of Police, Puri said that efforts are on to identify and nab the accused person.
"It was found that some objectionable posts have been written regarding the Jagannath Temple. We have taken cognisance of this incident. Our special team has already started an investigation to ascertain when and who wrote this. We have been taking the issue seriously as it is related to the security of Jagannath Temple," said Puri SP.
Mishra also stated that police have been examining the CCTV footage of the temple and surrounding areas to identify the accused person.
He also informed the media persons that the police team investigating the issue has already got some clues on the matter.
The Puri SP noted that everything will be cleared on the issue after the identification and apprehension of the accused person.
The police suspect that the graffiti was written on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, some locals claimed that a mentally unstable person was spotted earlier scribbling random matters in the locality during the past couple of days.
It is pertinent to mention that pilgrims, senior servitors and locals had raised serious objections last month over security lapses at the Puri Jagannath Temple after some unknown persons were seen entering the 12th-century shrine, scaling the Meghanada Pacheri, the outer boundary wall of the temple, during the Rath Yatra festival.

Long-weekend trip from Indore to Puri turns fatal for 6 friends as car jumps over divider, crashes into oncoming truck
Six friends from Indore, who had planned a four-day trip for the long weekend, were killed after the car they were travelling in veered out of control, jumped the divider and crashed into a truck on the opposite lane on a national highway in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district on Friday morning. The accident took place around 5 am near Chirchari village on the Nagpur-Raipur national highway when a group of seven friends were travelling in an Ertiga from Indore to visit the Puri temple in Odisha. They had visited Ujjain on Thursday. 'It was raining at the time. The driver, Sagar Yadav, may have been driving all night, having left Indore the previous day. We suspect he lost control or may have had poor visibility of the road due to the heavy rain. Their car jumped the divider, which is less than a foot high, and a truck coming from the opposite end hit one side of the car,' said a police official from the Baghnadi police station. While the airbags saved Sagar's life, the rest of the six occupants were killed. The local police said that the accident site was not in the list of blind or accident-prone spots. Five of the friends have been identified as Akash Maurya (28) from Indore, Govind Punamchand (33) from Ratlam, Aman Rathore (26) from Indore, Nitin Yadav (34) from Indore, and Sangram Kesari from Neelkantpur in Odisha. The sixth deceased is yet to be identified.

Proper communication vital for urban growth: Usha
Dhenkanal: Urban transformation can be realised not only by construction but by proper communication of transforming waste materials into wealth, said Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development department. Delivering a special lecture-cum-workshop on 'Governance, Urban Transformation and Role of Public Communication,' at IIMC auditorium, Padhee said government has introduced several schemes and Mukhyamantri Shahri Yojana for the benefit of people and media should play a pivotal role to disseminate information about welfare schemes. Public communication should promote awareness for inclusion of more eligible people to avail government schemes, she said. Urban transformation can come about through recycle and reuse of waste materials into wealth, Padhee said, adding that the State government is taking steps to use plastic materials for construction of road with support of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). 'We cannot check rapid growth of urbanisation, but rural areas should also get urban amenities,' she said. Padhee advised media students to prioritise unbiased reporting to win public trust. In reply to questions of students, she said use of advanced technology has helped in reducing corruption. In response to request of IIMC Regional Director Anand Pradhan, Padhee announced internship facility in departments of Housing & Urban Development and Transport for students of Corporate Communication and Brand Management. Pradhan and Prof Mrinal Chatterjee sought Padhee's consent for training at departments of Housing & Urban Development and Transport for students of Odia and English journalism.
