Centre failed India on security: Kanimozhi in Lok Sabha debate on Op Sindoor
'We had to go on these delegations because peace had failed us, and you had failed the people of India,' she said. 'For the first time, the BJP showed some confidence in the Opposition by sending us abroad as part of these delegations. We thank them for that. But we would've been happier had the situation not demanded such a response.' The MP was referring to the Parliamentary delegations, including Opposition MPs, to brief foreign governments and multilateral agencies on Operation Sindoor, following the Pahalgam terror attack in April.
Kanimozhi criticised the Centre for ignoring prior warnings about the attack. 'When RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) and IB (Intelligence Bureau) had already flagged suspicious activity, why was no action taken? A US-based company showed a Pakistani firm was looking for detailed maps of J&K for reconnaissance,' she said. 'Has the Prime Minister even apologised to the victims' families? Till date, there's been no word of remorse.'
Slamming Home Minister Amit Shah's speech during the discussion, she said it only focused on blaming the Opposition. 'We stood with the government and the Armed forces. You didn't see our religion then. But back home, BJP leaders continue to indulge in hate speech. What action has been taken against them?' she asked.
Taking a dig at the ruling party's frequent criticism of Jawaharlal Nehru, she remarked, 'Even the Congress doesn't remember Nehru as much as the BJP does. Because of you, people in Tamil Nadu are revisiting Periyar and Ambedkar, and across India, they're reading Nehru again.'
The DMK MP also raised concerns over election integrity, pointing to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar. Responding to Shah's remark that BJP would remain in power for 20 years, she said, 'We don't mind sitting in Opposition for that long—but it should be the people who put us there, not the Election Commission or the SIR.'
Kanimozhi also reminded the House that Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin was the first to organise a peace rally after the Pahalgam attack. 'That, too, is patriotism,' she said.

However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) stated that the RJD leader's name is indeed included in the draft SIR for Digha. ECI records show that Tejashwi Yadav is registered with a different EPIC number—RAXXXXX228. According to media reports, ECI sources confirmed that Tejashwi Yadav had submitted the EPIC number ending in 228 in his election affidavit. Meanwhile, responding to the allegation made by the RJD leader, Patna District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagarajan SM stated that the name is still listed at the same booth where he previously voted. "It is available in the public domain. Everyone can see it," he added. "Want to say very clearly that all the voters of Patna district are requested to have some patience. You can see your name in the draft by your name or EPIC number," he further added.

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Saturday slammed the BJP-led Mahayuti government for failing to address the rising crime rate in Maharashtra, accusing it of being a mute spectator as miscreants had no fear of the law. Speaking to reporters here, the Baramati MP claimed that a Rs 4,900 crore scam had taken place in the Majhi Ladki Bahin Yogana, the government's flagship scheme that provides a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 to women. She said parts of the state, including Pune and Beed districts, have witnessed a steady surge in crimes, while the government remains a mute spectator. "People have lost faith in the system. There is no fear of the law. Who is backing these criminals? Instead of looking into these questions, the government chooses to stay silent," she said. Sule criticised the delay in the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the 2022 murder of Parli-based businessman Mahadev Munde. "Only after Munde's wife, Dnyaneshwari, attempted self-immolation and met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, did the government act. We demand a fair and transparent probe by the SIT," she said. Sule also raised concerns about the recent communal unrest at Yavat in Daund tehsil, where groups of persons, angered by a social media post, vandalised and set ablaze properties. "This is a sensitive region. Political leaders and outsiders coming in and inciting unrest is unacceptable. I urge the chief minister and deputy chief ministers to control their people," she said. Sule urged Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, also the guardian minister of Pune, to ensure peace and communal harmony in Daund. "We have deep roots in Daund. Let's not allow outsiders to disturb its social fabric," she said. Maharashtra has become an example of how power and money can derail governance, she claimed. "There is a Rs 4,900-crore scam in the Ladki Bahin scheme. Farmers are committing suicide, and yet the government is focused on self-promotion," she alleged. Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare recently admitted that nearly 26.34 lakh ineligible persons, including men, were availing benefits of the Ladki Bahin scheme. On Fadnavis's recent remarks about rising hooliganism in Pune, Sule said, "If you acknowledge there's a law and order issue, what action have you taken? Who is protecting these contractors and gangsters?" She also flagged irregularities in the Election Commission's handling of voter rolls in Bihar, demanding a detailed discussion in the Parliament on electoral transparency and accountability.
