How would you describe your first-year experience?
The year has brought an enriching experience for me. The party entrusted me to start the debate by thanksgiving motion. I spoke on the budget, all important debates, be it triple talaq or constitutional debate. I am part of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) of 'One Nation, One Election'. I was also part of the MPs delegation that went on the four-nation tour post Operation Sindoor. The party has given me enough work. I was made a star campaigner by the party.
What was the high point of the year for you personally and your party in the House?
The budget speech that I made set the narrative. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself tweeted my speech and his tweet came as a pat on the back which for me personally was the high point. Congress had tried to create a 'fake narrative' on the Constitution and caste census which I had countered.
Are you satisfied with the number of sittings of the Lok Sabha?
The sittings are enough if the House is allowed to work effectively by the Opposition. This is my fourth term and I think the sittings are enough. Opposition mostly disrupts the House for non-issues and whenever they stage a walkout, they lose an opportunity to raise an issue.
What is the most effective way to raise issues of public importance in the House?
From Zero Hour to Rule 377 to special mentions, participation in short debates along with Question Hour — these are ways one can use to raise the issues of public participation. If one is present in the House, there is no dearth of opportunities to raise issues.
What constituency-specific issues were raised by you and what are your plans ahead?
The rail budget for Himachal Pradesh has seen a significant increase, with a focus on strengthening rail infrastructure. This includes the Bhanupali-Bilaspur-Beri line and the upgrade of four railway stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme. The Nangal-Talwara rail line project, where land acquisition was previously halted, has been revived and is back on track after Centre took up the issue with Punjab. Apart from this, four-lane work between Mataur and Shimla is on track that will improve connectivity with Kangra and I am working on the four-lane road from Jalandhar to Nadaun in Hamirpur. For the rest of the term, my priority would be to strengthen infrastructure, road and railway network and health and education. Getting big projects will mean employment opportunities for our youth.

CM Yogi Adityanath says religious conversions a deep conspiracy, won't be tolerated

LUCKNOW: CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday termed illegal religious conversions a calculated conspiracy to undermine the nation's identity and destroy social fabric, asserting that Uttar Pradesh government was taking firm action to curb it. Yogi referred to the recent case of Balrampur where a large-scale illegal conversion racket backed by foreign funding was unearthed. The CM revealed that the suspicious transactions of over Rs 100 crore was found across 40 accounts with pre-determined 'rates' for conversion. He termed it a grave threat to economic and social security of the state and the nation. 'Some forces are deliberately trying to alter the fundamental character of the country through unlawful conversions. This is an attack on social cohesion and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances,' the CM said while addressing the flagging-off ceremony of Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra dedicated to 350th Shaheedi Varsh of the Sikh Guru. Yogi underlined that marginalised communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, were being lured and coerced into changing their religion. He emphasised that such acts were against the spirit of the Constitution and the principle of social equality. The Yatra, which commenced from Lucknow, will pass through Kanpur, Etawah, and Agra before culminating at Chandni Chowk and the historic Sheeshganj Gurudwara in Delhi—the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom. A commemorative memento was also presented to the CM to mark the occasion.

EAM Jaishankar To Embark On Three-Day China Visit To Attend SCO Meeting

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will embark on a three-day visit to China from July 13 to 15 to participate in high-level bilateral discussions and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Notably, this will be Jaishankar's first visit to China since bilateral relations were severely strained by the violent clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in June 2020. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had visited China last month to attend the 20th Meeting of the SCO Security Council Secretaries. During his visit, NSA Ajit Doval had called on Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng along with other Heads of Delegation attending the meeting. Doval also held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and underlined the urgency of addressing terrorism in all its forms. He emphasized the need to counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to maintain overall peace and stability in the region. India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, conducting precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. During the meeting, Doval and Wang Yi reviewed recent developments in India-China relations and stressed the need to promote overall bilateral ties, including greater people-to-people contact. They also exchanged views were also exchanged on other bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. The NSA conveyed that he looked forward to welcoming Wang Yi in India for the 24th round of the Special Representative (SR) Talks at a mutually convenient date. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the SCO Defence Ministers' Meeting in Qingdao in June and met his counterparts from Belarus, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. Singh underscored India's rapid strides in defence manufacturing and self-reliance. He highlighted the rapid advances made by India in the field of defence production and achieving self-reliance in meeting its defence requirements in several key areas. Rajnath Singh also briefed his counterparts on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor launched by India aimed at dismantling the terrorist networks in Pakistan. India, however, declined to sign the joint declaration at the SCO meeting, citing dissatisfaction over the final text. According to government sources, the declaration had references to incidents in Pakistan but omitted any mention of the April 22 Pahalgam attack. "India is not satisfied with the language of the joint document, as there was no mention of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam... so India refused to sign the joint declaration, and there is no joint communique either," a source said. India and China had earlier this year agreed to resume Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as part of efforts to improve ties following the disengagement of troops at the two remaining friction points in eastern Ladakh last year. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra did not take place in the last nearly six years due to COVID-19 and later due to tensions over the military standoff in eastern Ladakh. India's relations with Singapore were elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Singapore in September 2024. With shared history, long tradition of friendship based on trust and mutual respect, and extensive cooperation across a wide range of areas, India-Singapore cooperation has deepened and diversified over the years.

Punjab BJP holds protests against CM Mann for his remarks against PM Modi

The BJP's Punjab unit on Saturday (July 12, 2025) held demonstrations at many places in the State against Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's remarks criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits. The BJP leaders and workers shouted slogans against Mr. Mann and also burnt his effigies. Party leader Tarun Chugh slammed the CM's remarks as "vile and disgraceful". Mr. Chugh said Mr. Mann is "drunk with power and arrogance" to the point where he doesn't even know what he is saying. "He's attacking a Prime Minister who's been elected three times by the people of India with a historic mandate. A leader whose integrity over 25 years of public life is spotless. A leader whose vision is echoing across the world. And Mann has the audacity to mock him," he said. "Dragging Home Minister Amit Shah's name into this reflects Mann's frustration," Mr. Chugh said. "He's the Home Minister who crushed terrorism, dismantled Naxal networks, and strengthened India's internal security. Under his leadership, the BJP became the world's largest political party." Punjab BJP leader Anil Sarin too hit out at Mann, saying the chief minister has forgotten the decorum and dignity of constitutional posts. The kind of language he used against the PM inside and outside of the House cannot be tolerated, said Mr. Sarin. On Thursday, Mr. Mann had criticised Modi for "celebrating" the foreign honour from a country with a population of just 10,000 while "neglecting" the nation's pressing issues. The Ministry of External Affairs had also termed Mann's remarks as "irresponsible". Despite the MEA disapproving of his comments, Mr. Mann on Friday again raked up the issue, this time in the State Assembly, and asked him to "address the concerns" of 140 crore Indians. On MEA's reaction, Mr. Mann asked whether he did not have a right to ask questions about foreign policy. On Thursday, Mr. Mann had said, "Pradhan Mantri ji has gone to Ghana? Has he come back from Ghana? Will he come back today? He will be welcomed upon his return to the country." "... He is not staying in the country where 140 crore people live. The countries that he is visiting have a population of 10,000. And he got the biggest award there. Over here, 10,000 people gather to watch the JCB machine [earth-moving machine]," Mr. Mann had said. Participating in a debate over the resolution against the deployment of CISF personnel at the Bhakra-Nangal project during the second day of the Punjab assembly on Friday, Mr. Mann again said that the Prime Minister has no time to address the concerns of 140 crore Indians but has time to tour abroad. "The MEA has reacted. Don't we have a right to ask the PM about foreign policy? Do the countries that he visits support our nation afterwards? When our relations with Pakistan deteriorated, did any country stand by us?" asked Mr. Mann. "He visits the countries 'Magneshia, Tarveshia, Garveshia' (sic), do not know where these countries are. Pradhan Mantri sahib got the biggest award there. What is the population there? It is 9,500. I said that many people gather just to watch the JCB machine here," Mr. Mann said. Later, while speaking to the media on Friday, Mann again asked, "Don't I have a right to question about the foreign policy that what are you going to do there? What have you done there? Tell us. Don't we have the right?" Mr. Mann also took a dig at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
