Being a typical 90s kid, my first childhood superhero was Superman (after Shaktimaan! Wink). Right from watching the cartoon on TV, several actors, including George Reeves, Christopher Reeve, Brandon Routh, and Henry Cavill, have played this superhero character created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
The latest actor, who joined the bandwagon and got the honour to play one of the most lovable superheroes, is David Corenswet. While the anticipation and excitement about this DC movie is currently at its peak among the fans, let's find out whether it lives up to it or not…
STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
The plot starts with our Superman just getting beaten up for the first time by a powerful Ultraman, and his mean and mischievous dog Krypto comes to his rescue and takes him to the centre where he recovers.
Later, it is seen that the moves of Ultraman are guided by the wicked techie giant and Superman's arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). While Lex tries to convince the government that the annihilation of Superman is important, as he wants to rule the country, he sends free arms to the Boravian government in exchange for half of Jarhanpur (an underdeveloped nation state), which supports Superman.
The superhero lives a dual life with another being Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent, who is in a serious relationship with his colleague Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan). Apart from showcasing the geo-political tensions and the good-over-evil concept, James Gunn's latest superhero flick touches the core emotions of humanity without being preachy or too hard and remains true to the original comic.

Dean Cain calls out James Gunn for calling Superman an 'immigrant'

Former Superman star Dean Cain has come out strongly against filmmaker James Gunn for his recent remarks about the superhero. The actor, known for portraying the iconic DC Comics character in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, described Gunn as "woke" for calling the character an "immigrant". Cain compared DC Studios adapting Superman to modern times with Disney's recent Snow White remake. "Why are they going to change these characters (to) exist for the times?" asked Cain. The actor's comments come shortly after Gunn described Superman as America's story, which bats for "basic human kindness" at a time when the idea itself has lost its meaning. Meanwhile, the filmmaker's brother Sean Gunn, playing Maxwell Lord in Superman, supported him and underscored the vital part that immigrants play in American society. The actor stated, "The people that we support in this country are immigrants and if you don't like that, you're not American." While Cain agreed with the notion about Superman being an immigrant, he argued that the USA has certain rules and policies in relation to immigration for a reason. According to the actor, the country cannot let in every foreigner because otherwise, "society will fail". He went on to suggest that, if not for these rules, it would be similar to Somalia. Conservatives in the USA seemingly believe that progressive social agendas have diluted Superman, moving it away from his classic heroic archetype and associating it with undesirable elements, such as the superimposition of 'MS-13' on the superhero suit. Besides James and Sean Gunn, actor Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner (Green Lantern) in Superman, also tried to defuse the controversy, terming it "just a movie".

Box Office: Jurassic World: Rebirth sees a 150 percent jump on 2nd Saturday; Dinosaurs take on Superman in India

The Scarlett Johansson-led Jurassic World: Rebirth has seen a phenomenal jump at the box office in India on its second Saturday. According to early estimates, the film is looking to collect in the range of Rs 6.25 crore to Rs 6.75 crore on its ninth day, taking total collections to Rs 59.70 crore. The fourth film of the Jurassic World franchise has seen a 150 percent jump in business on the 2nd Saturday, from a 2nd Friday of Rs 2.75 crore. Jurassic World: Rebirth lost some screens to Superman, and Maalik in its second week, but is still continuing to dominate at the box office in India. In-fact, the film clocked better occupancy than Superman at most of the centres, and suffered primarily due to lack of screens. What's commendable is the fact that Jurassic World: Rebirth is dominating the ticket windows in India despite a no-release on IMAX properties. The Scarlett Johansson-led dinosaur saga is attracting family audiences too, and the franchise power has transported the film to the mass belts too. At the end of the second weekend, Jurassic World's total collections would stand in the vicinity of Rs 67 crore, and the film has a bright chance of entering the Rs 100 crore club in India if the third weekend shows a similar trend. Interestingly, Superman has clocked Rs 8.5 crore on its first Saturday, which is just 30 percent above the collections of Jurassic World on its second Saturday. Jurassic World is headed to be a 'Lambi-Race-Ka-Ghoda' in India, and has emerged BIG HIT at the box office. Week One: Rs 50.45 crore 2nd Friday: Rs 2.75 crore 2nd Saturday: Rs 6.50 crore (Expected) Total: Rs 59.70 crore
