The Substance was like entering the eye of the storm: Margaret Qualley

Los Angeles, Aug 5 (PTI) 'The Substance" actor Margaret Qualley says her role in the body horror drama film made her confront 'generations of trauma".
Qualley, who is the daughter of actor Andie MacDowell and former model Paul Qualley, starred alongside Demi Moore in the film.
Directed by French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat, the 2024 film revolves around Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore), a fitness icon who is laid off from her TV show when she turns 50. A desperate Sparkle turns to the Substance, a black market product that helps her spawn a younger version, called Sue, portrayed by Qualley. But they must alternate their existence in the world.
Qualley said boarding the film was like 'entering the eye of the storm" for her. 'It was like entering the eye of the storm. It was like dealing with all of my s**t, my mom's s**t, generations of trauma. It was a nightmare, being this idyllic, youthful fembot. No one thinks of themselves like that. The movie is not a good touchstone for what femininity is — it is quite masculine in a lot of ways," she told Cosmopolitan in an interview.
The actor praised her co-star, Moore, and called her a special person.
'The thing I'll take home with me, for sure, is Demi Moore. She's such a special person. She's strong and she's wise, but she's also incredibly soft and porous. I learned so much from her. She's become one of my dearest friends," Qualley said.
'The Substance" had its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, where it won the award for the best screenplay and received an 11-minute standing ovation.
Qualley is currently gearing up for the release of her upcoming film 'Honey Don't!". The comedy film is directed by Ethan Coen and is slated to hit the big screen on August 22. PTI ATR ATR BK BK

Because dwarfs are normal, their hand movements are normal, they laugh and think like anyone else, they only look a different way. So, how will you act that out? You will make him look smaller technically." He mentioned that SRK has too much star power to play such a character. 'We know you are good-looking and cute, so our impression of what you are ends there. We are not looking at a dwarf, we are looking at a hero who has been made to look like a dwarf via visual effects," he said and asked, 'And what is your script trying to say?" Comparing SRK's film to Kamal Haasan's Appu Raja, he said, 'You look at Appu Raja's intelligence. Kamal Haasan picked out the details of the physicality of a dwarf person." 'Dwarfs are a little distorted, their fingers are smaller, a little thicker, their arms, face, and feet are different, so when you are not able to leave an impact, then why are you making it? And how could you think that you would leave an impact?" he questioned. Lilliput even compared the acting prowess of the two stars and said, 'Kamal ji ki aap copy kar rahe ho. Unke acting ki charno ki dhool bhi nahi ho aap (You are copying Kamal ji when you are not even equal to the dirt on his feet)." After Zero's failure, Shah Rukh Khan took a break from acting and reconsidered his choices. He made a huge comeback in 2023 with Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. Salman Khan Stormed Off Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam Set, Left Old Lightman Injured: Sheeba Chaddha
Last Updated: Salman Khan slammed a door so hard that it left an old crew member slightly injured. In his early days, Salman Khan was known for being a temperamental actor who would often throw tantrums on set. In a recent chat with Siddharth Kannan, actress Sheeba Chaddha, who worked with Salman in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (co-starring Aishwarya Rai), recalled some fits that he threw during the film's shoot, including one incident that left an old lightman injured. Sheeba Chaddha said, 'I remember he tripped and fell, and he just stormed out of the sets. Unhone darwaza aise pheka (he slammed the door so hard), and there was an old lightman behind the door who got slightly hurt." Since Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was Sheeba's first film, Salman's 'temperamental' nature shocked her. Recalling her disbelief, she said, 'I was like, baap re, aisa hota hai kya with stars (Oh, my god, does this happen while working with stars)?" Sheeba Chaddha recalled another incident and said, 'He had to hug me, and Salman refused. He said, 'I won't hug.'" Since the script required Salman to hug Sheeba, and the superstar refused, the film's shoot was temporarily halted. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had to step in and convince Salman to follow the script. Recently, Salman's Tere Naam co-star, Indira Krishnan, also opened up about the superstar, reflecting on his prankster nature. Indira Krishnan was supposed to slap Salman Khan in Tere Naam. However, the superstar felt that it would be the best time to prank her. As part of his prank, Salman Khan gave a 'threat' to Indira that things would go awry for her if she slapped him. In a recent chat with Galatta India, Indira recalled Salman's 'threat' and said he told her, 'Aap thappad maarogi toh phir kuch bhi hosakta hai. Aap dekhlo iska phir kya honewala hai (If you slap me, then anything can happen. You see what is going to happen to her next)." However, since it was part of the script, Indira slapped Salman. Soon, Salman's bodyguard also joined in on the prank and said, 'Ma'am aapne kya kardiya? Press waale aagaye. Aap van mai jaake baith jaao (Ma'am, what have you done? The press people have come. You go and sit in the van)." This left Indira worried. As part of the joke, Indira was told that she would be banned from the industry, and this even left her in tears.
